Corrosion Resistance for Marine Use

This trailer hub assembly has a zinc coating that resists corrosion, making it ideal for use on your boat or snowmobile trailer. All GAL-DEX hubs undergo a test in which they are sprayed with a 5-percent salt solution to determine corrosion resistance over time. These products are able to withstand 500 hours of constant exposure to the saltwater mist. This 500-hour salt spray rating indicates that a product is not only durable enough to last in freshwater environments, but it can also be used on trailers that come into contact with saltwater

E-Z Lube-Compatible Assembly for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub-and-drum assembly is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Purchased 4 brake kits and hub/drum assemblies for a 12 yr old tandem axle aluminum car carrier. Great product, quality, and delivery. Installed new bearings, brakes and drums, looks great and and rides line new...!!!

My salesman Troy provided me superb assistance and customer service. Kudos to etrailer and Troy..!!

by:

Had to wait a few days for etrailer to get these plated hubs back in stock, but when they arrived installation was what you'd expect. Quality seems very good, and made in USA (bonus). These are Dexter brand hub/drums. Time will tell if the plating will make any difference on my boat trailer application. Originals were not plated and were ugly/rusty, but also 30 years + old so I opted to replace vs have them turned / wire-brush and paint. Glad I waited.

by:

Fit perfectly, easy install

by:

These drums are nice made in the USA parts with every thing you need to install them for half the money you would pay at a trailer shop.
Shipped to my door and package so they weren't all beat to crap when I received them.
Nice job etrailer.

All parts were received and in new condition. The packaging was perfect. I will not install the brakes for another few days so rating performance is out for now.

See what our Experts say about this Dexter Trailer Hubs and Drums

  • Recommended Replacement Hub/Brake Drum for Boat Trailer Axle
I'd almost be willing to bet the farm that your inside bearing is actually a L44649 with an inner diameter of 1.063 inches. A typical 3500 lb axle will have a L68149 inner and a L44649 outer bearing. If that's the case, the Dexter # 8-247-50UC3-EZ galvanized hub/drum you looked at would work well for you. The hub includes the bearings, races, 10-19 grease seal, grease cap and lug nuts.

  • Replacement For A Dexter 8-249 Hub And Drum Assembly
To replace your Dexter 8-249 hubs, I recommend using the Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-550-35-EZ-K. This is the Axle-Tek brand equivalent of your Dexter 8-249 hub/drum. The hub will include your bearings, seals, races, grease cap and lug nuts.

Dexter did acquire AL-KO axles and the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 3,500-lb Axles - 10" Diameter - 5 on 4-1/2 # 84546UC3 is the full assembly replacement. If you just wan to replace the bearings and seal then you will want # L44649, # L68149, and # 58846. For your brake assemblies, you will use the Replacement Trailer Brake Magnet Kit for Dexter and Hayes / AL-KO 10" Trailer Brakes # BP01-110. From past experiences with your trailer we do know a bit about what hubs are typically going to fit but I would recommend you verify first by checking your trailer. We have found that your trailer has inner bearing L68149, ID 1.378, race OD 20362, outer bearing L44649 ID 1.063, and race OD 1.980. I recommend the Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly # 8-247-50UC3-EZ. • Replacement Bearings and Seals for Hub 8-247 on a 1999 Coleman Pop-up Trailer
It sounds like you may have hub # 8-247-50UC3-EZ or similar. This hub takes bearing kit # BK2-100. The inner bearing is L68149 and the outer bearing is L44649. It takes a 10-19 grease seal with 1.719 inch inner diameter. If you can pull a hub and remove the bearings, the bearing numbers are stamped into the metal of the bearings. I have included a link to a video that should help. The brakes for this hub are 10 x 2-1/4 inch assemblies for 3,500 pound axles. The right hand side would be...

Thanks for reaching out! The closest hub and drum assembly we have to the specs you're wanting is the Dexter Trailer Hub & Drum Assembly for 3,500-lb Axles # 84546UC3-EZ which uses 1/2" studs that are 2-1/4" long. This same kit is found with a galvanized finish as part # 8-247-50UC3-EZ if that better suits your application. You should not need to turn the drums to make the new hub fit. Are the brake shoes new on your system, and are they adjusted properly. Thank you for the measurements you provided, they are very helpful and tell us everything we need to know to recommend parts that will work for you. Based on your bearing numbers and spindle measurements you need a 3,500 lb hub with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. The type of hub that you need will depend on whether you have brakes or want a galvanized versus a painted finish. You are correct. The # 84656UC3-EZ hub/drum you'd looked at with the 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern uses the same L44649 outer/L68149 outer wheel bearings and 10-19 grease seal as the 8-247 hub/drum like the # 8-247-50UC3-EZ you'd looked at. Since the inner and outer bearings and ID of the grease seal match up, the # 84656UC3-EZ would be a compatible replacement.
