Corrosion Resistance for Marine Use

This trailer hub-and-drum assembly has a zinc coating that resists corrosion, making it ideal for use on your boat or snowmobile trailer. All GAL-DEX hubs and drums undergo a test in which they are sprayed with a 5-percent salt solution to determine corrosion resistance over time. These products are able to withstand 500 hours of constant exposure to the saltwater mist. This 500-hour salt spray rating indicates that a product is not only durable enough to last in freshwater environments, but it can also be used on trailers that come into contact with saltwater.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Both drums had rust spots in the same location, like they were sitting somewhere with water in them. Used some 200 grit sandpaper to remove the rust be surface of drums still marred.

Fast and accurate

by:

Decided to try a galvanized drum for my boat trailer. Hopefully lasts better with no rust. The wheel studs on these drums are longer than the non galvanized version for some reason.

by:

I got the parts as stated Direct bolt on no issues. I found the web site to be helpful. This is my new trailer parts store.

  • Replacement Galvanized Hub and Drum Assemblies for Boat Trailer w/Bearings L68149 and L44649
We have numerous hub and drum assemblies that use inner bearing L68149 and outer bearing L44649. I have included a link to them for you. There are several different bolt patterns for hubs that take those bearings. The most common is a 5 on 4-1/2 like # 8-247-50 but to be sure you can measure for bolt pattern using the help article I have linked. The race numbers might not be an exact match but that is because they match the bearings AND the hubs so as long as the bearing numbers are correct...

  • Electric Brakes That Fit Dexter 8-247 Drum
We do have electric brake assemblies that fit your 8-247 drum like the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum # 8-247-50. Since your hub and drum is for 3,500 lb axles and measures 10" diameter x 2-1/4" wide, you simply need to have brakes that match, which are the Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-35-SA (Self-Adjusting) or # AKEBRK-35 (Manual Adjusting). For the manually adjusting brakes you need the Brake Adjustment Spoon # W80630, and for both assemblies you need Mounting Hardware # BRKH10B. I...

  • Replacement For Dexter 8-147 Hub
The # 8-247-50 matches the capacity, but it uses the modern bearing configuration with # L44649 outer and # L68149 inner bearings. The 8-147 uses a # LM48548 inner bearing which means these hubs will not fit your spindle. The best solution is to replace your current axle. • Is Redline Trailer # 84 Spindle a Fit for Dexter 8-247 Drums
You are correct that the TruRyde #84 Spindle, like part # TRU24FR, which you reference, is a fit for your Dexter trailer hub and drum, part # 8-247-50.
