Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This hub-and-drum assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This assembly has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Please double and make sure that you are ordering the correct lug-pattern. These are definitely good quality and a good value purchase. I have purchased similar items such as these at Tractor Supply before and I prefer Etrailer over Tractor Supply. The Casting seems to be of better quality and these with pre-greased bearings make installation a breeze.

Exactly what I needed. My trailer never had trailer brakes and this was perfect for my install

@Wesley We're happy to hear that, thank you!

We had a catastrophic bearing failure which destroyed the axle. Living not far from factory ordered replacement axle. Picked up axle installed and realized the bolt pattern was changed. Factory was given original specs, serial number and bolt pattern. They didn't say they had changed specs when ordering purchasing and no longer used that pattern. Called the factory and they kindly offered to sell the correct hub assemblies. A few bad words later I looked for another option. This solution took care of that issue rather then have two different bolt patterns on trailer. Won't bother ever going back to the factory or their dealerships for parts. The parts were a simple switch and all was well. Like one would have expected from OEM.

Good morning George, We have used the trailer quite a bit since making the repairs and happily I can say there have been no problems. The down side for etrailer is I havent needed any parts yet. I will have to study and figure what brake parts I need to fix my home made trailer. I built it 30 years ago with a set of Dexter axles from a trailer house that was being scrapped and I know where the parts are going to come from

Thanks for your follow up and reply. I did want to let you know that typically mobile home axles are intended as a single use item and there are very rarely serviceable parts available for replacement. It may be beneficial to replace the entire axle assembly, and we do carry several of those, as well as some axles-less systems for trailers. I have included a link to the axle systems that we currently carry, you would just need to selece based on your trailer needs.

Put the works on the open car hauler. Bearings drums and electric brakes. All work perfectly going from Michigan to Utah, four times.

by:

For me, etrailer's strong suit has always been customer service, and that continues today.

by:

Great product, great customer service

by:

I wanted to add brakes to a second axle on my tandem trailer.
Made the assumption that my wheels were 5 on 4.5. The lug measurement method on etrailer's site is easy to use. Nope. My wheels are 5 on 4.75.
Apparently not a very popular wheel for 3500lb trailer axles. Well etrailer had these hub/drum assemblies for a great price. They shipped quickly, were packed very well and best of all fit my spindles and wheels perfectly.
Thanks!

by:

Fit perfectly and was on time.

by:

Fast service!

by:

Exactly what i ordered and shipped quic kly

by:

I like that the fact that the hub and drum comes preassembled and greased with the bearings and ready to install. Makes quick work of the job. Everything fit just perfect. Free shipping is a plus too!!!

by:

I've had this Trl for 26 years, I'm in the process of building a camper on it so I want brakes on it.
Replaced hubs with drum assays. Even on an axle as old as this, they fit like a glove and was able easy to get the right adjustment

by:

It came ready to install.

by:

These drums were exactly what I needed. I have trailer brakes again! Easy to install. Just make sure you pack those new bearing FULL of grease.

by:

I was quite surprised to received the goods in less than a day. The drums fit properly. One stud was not fully seated in the hub. The dust caps were so difficult to install I reused the old ones. I would prefer products made in the USA not China.

by:

No disappointments fast processing and shipping good product couldnt ask for anything better.

by:

Love this place. Amanda L was very helpful. If I ever need anymore replacement parts for my trailer, I'll be back.

by:

Very happy with this! Work great and easy install. etrailer always comes through

by:

Haven't got it on the trailer yet. Looks like it will fit.

by:

Order came on time perfect fit very knowledgeable people

by:

Arrived quickly and was well packaged. The hub worked well and was easy to install on my trailer.

by:

arrived promptly-appers to be a quality product

by:

Arrived fast. Exactly what I needed.

by:

Looks to be of good quality - but I measured wrong and got the wrong part so I never used this hub.

  • Difference In Hub And Drum Product Quality
The main differences are going to have to do with who makes the product. For Example if you buy a trailer hub for a Dexter axle made by Dexter, you will generally pay more because they are the manufacturer, versus if you were to buy an off-brand name. Also, there may be quality differences, generally the more expensive the more quality and craftsmanship is put into that particular product. Another consideration is the finish, some of the premium products offer corrosion resistant coating...

  • Parts Needed to Add Hydraulic Drum Brakes to 3,500 lb Axle
The only solution that's a slip on brake system for a trailer idler hub would be a disc brake setup. So to go to a hydraulic drum setup you'd have to get new hub drums and brake assemblies. Which for that you'd need the # AKHD-5475-35-K with the brake assemblies # AKUBRK-35L and # AKUBRK-35R.

  • Replacement Brakes and Hub and Drum Assemblies that Use L68149 and L44649 Bearings
The fact that your existing hubs use bearings L68149 and L44649 indicates that the trailer has 84 spindles and the axles are more than likely 3,500 pound axles. The bearing numbers is how we identify things like the correct hubs and capacity so you are good to go. The bolt pattern the wheels use to secure to the hub and drum assembly is the other key factor.
