Question:
I just bought an older used trailer and I am trying to replace the bearings, races and seals. I am trying to ID the weight rating for the axle as well as make sure I am buying the correct bearings for the hub. The axle is a P15-SLR Serial: D1853760 2 3/8 housing #84 Spindles The hub is a 5x4.75 with the numbers 356 on the back of the hub. I have looked through several articles and it appears that there are some difficulties identifying axles manufactured before 1991. Any help would be appreciated.

Your axle is a 3,500 lb axle. The Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 3,500-lb Axles - 10" Diameter - 5 on 4-3/4 # 845476UC3 is the hub you have with the bearings that fit your #84 spindle. The Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 3,500-lb Axles - 10" Diameter - 5 on 4-3/4 - Pre-Greased # AKHD-5475-35-K is also a fit, but if you just want the bearing kit use # BK2-100.
