Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This hub-and-drum assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This assembly has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

E-Z Lube-Compatible Assembly for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub-and-drum assembly is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

I ordered these hubs to replace the existing ones on my camping trailer so I could replace the tires with a heavier load range rating. The hubs arrived in a timely manner and were a good quality replacement. The improvement in the stability of the trailer while being towed was a very noticeable difference. etrailer has been a great company to buy from and a very good resource for information if you are not sure about a purchase. 642582

I must say I am very impressed with customer service as I ordered the parts over the phone. The person I talked was Troy. I checked the parts on the web site and I made a list of what I needed and called customer service. Their web site made it so easy, they truly have their act together at this company. One thing I did before I placed my order was to remove one hub and checked the bearing numbers! Just to make sure. and checked the wheel stud measurements. I ordered my parts for a 3,500LB EZ Lube Axels 10" Dia - 6 on 5 1/2. So easy even a caveman can do it! I removed all the parts from the box and laid everything out and checked for any missing parts. They were spot on with the parts. My son and I removed the old tires and hubs, cleaned up the spindles. I took the new bearing and placed them on the spindles to make sure they fit. Perfect so far. I showed my son how to hand packed the bearings and set those aside. We installed the brake kit on the axels,*** Please note make sure you order the bolting kit! 8 nuts and 8 washers. only a few bucks.**** I have a 20 year old son, he asked if he could do one side, sure why not. He ended up doing both sides. He enjoyed how easy it was. Once they were bolted in place, we made sure everything was tightened down. Next we made sure the hubs were spotless, we used a brake cleaner to remove any particles to insure a good clean surface. The races were already installed at the factory, which made it so much easier. We put a nice amount of grease in the hub between where the bearings sit placed grease on the race and installed the bearing. I packed the back of the grease seal with grease and installed the seal tapping it in place with a block of wood making sure it went in nice and straight, Fit like a glove! I had my son do the other side. From there he wanted to do the rest, so I let him. Everything fit like a glove, the hubs slipped on nice and easy, installed the front bearing washer and the castle nut, The Cotter key was not included with the kit, no problem I always have extras. tightened the castle nut nice and firm to seat the bearings spin the hub around a few times and than backed the nut off about a half turn and installed the cotter pin. I put a nice amount of grease in the hub cap and tapped it into place. I have to say it was a very easy to convert to standard hub to electric brakes. Next I took a wire wheel to the frame down to bare steel and drilled a 1/4 hole, installed a waterproof wire ring terminal on one of the green wires for the ground. Tightened it down to make a nice connection and sprayed black paint over the bare steel to prevent rust, Both sides were done in the same manner. I connected the other 2 green wires and I ran wire up to the control box following the existing wires along the frame. I installed the brake controller but I forgot to order the junction box! So I am waiting for that to arrive. So I am pretty much done except for the one item. Very easy I can't say enough but, Thank you Troy! It was a pleasure dong business with E Trailer. I just wish I took some pictures! 315444

  • Availability of USA Manufactured Trailer Hub Drum Assemblies
The AxleTek # AKHD-655-35-EZ-K hub is manufactured overseas in China. For a compatible hub/drum that's manufactured in the USA, take a look at the trailer hub and drum assembly, part # 84656UC3-EZ from Dexter Axle. These actually don't contact the wheel of the axle at all so the wheel size does not matter with these. • Replacement Trailer Hub Assembly with 1-1/4 Inch Inner Bearing and 1-1/8 Inch Outer Bearing
The closest hub assembly we have available to the specs that you mentions is with a 3,500 pound hub like the etrailer.com # AKHD-655-35-EZ-K. This hub does have a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern. It uses # L68149 for the inner bearing (1.378 inch inner diameter) and # L44649 for the outer bearing (1.063 inch inner diameter). Since the measurements need to be exact, I recommend verifying the measurements you took on your bearings with a digital caliper like # 301-17068 to see if this will work....

I propose a different approach by using a Timbren axle-less system # ASR2KHDS01. This system will provide the "axle" as well as the suspension in one unit plus the suspension part will not wear out nearly as quickly as traditional leaf springs because the rubber won't corrode. They are also set up for electric...
