Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This hub-and-drum assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This assembly has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

E-Z Lube-Compatible Assembly for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub-and-drum assembly is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for etrailer Trailer Hubs and Drums - Hub with Integrated Drum - AKHD-655-35-EZ-K Review

Today we're going to take a look at the 10 inch trailer hub and drum assembly for 3500 pound easy lube axles. This has the 6 on 5 and 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Now this hub and drum assembly does provide the surface area for your brake shoes to grip when drum brake's activated. It is compatible with both electric and hydraulic drum brakes. This trailer hub assembly does fit easy lube trailer axles and easy lube axles are the ones that have the grease Zerk fitting on the end of the spindle. That will allow you to grease the bearings without having to remove this complete hub and drum assembly to access the bearings.

This will come with this easy lube compatible grease cap, that's installed just like that once it's tapped in. This will make lubricating your bearings very fast and easy. All you have to do is pop out your rubber plug, that will give you access to that Zerk fitting on the end of the spindle. Put your grease gun in there, pump it with grease. Easy to do, there's no need to totally disassemble the hub and drum to access the bearings to grease them. Now this hub and drum assembly does include everything shown here on the table, and it even includes the bearing racers which are pre-installed in the hub.

There's your outer bearing race and if we spin it around here's your inner bearing race. Also includes the inner bearing, the outer bearing, the grease seal, the easy lube grease cap with that rubber plug and 6 of the 1/2 inch lug nuts. Now this hub and drum is a sturdy iron construction, has a nice sink enriched paint finish over the whole drum and the bolts are zinc finished. They all help resist corrosion. This is certified by USSAE 00:01:32 standards and CSA which are the Canadian standards. Application for this 00:01:36 is 3500 pound easy lube trailer axles with the number 84 spindles.

This is compatible with axles for most manufacturers including Dexter, Liprid 00:01:46 and Alko. This is designed to work with a 10 inch brake assembly, the diameter being 10 inches right here. The bolt pattern, again, is a 6 on 5 and 1/2 inch bolt pattern. The weight capacity is 1750 pounds per hub. On these parts right here, we'll start with the inner bearing which is the larger of the 2. That's part number L68149, has an inner diameter of 1.378.

If we spin this around to gain access to the inner bearing race, you can see it fits right in there. To hold it into place, you have your grease seal. Overall diameter is 2.565, that will go right there and you tap it into place the whole of that 00:02:25 there. Now the smaller bearing which is the outer bearing. It is a part number L44649, the inner diameter is 1.063. That would right into the outer bearing race and then you have your zinc plated easy lube grease cap with the rubber plug. Has a flange diameter of 1.99 inches, that would tap on just like that. As I mentioned that plug, which will be installed in there, you just pop it off to gain access to that Zerk fitting. Now for this video, I'm just showing you where the parts are located, how they assemble into your hub and drum. When you do install this for the first time, you do want to make sure both the bearings are greased correctly so when you do install it, you're ready to go. Then all you can do from then on is just use the grease gun on the Zerk fitting to keep grease in your bearings. Also it does include the 6 1/2 inch by 20 size lug nuts. Those are used to hold your wheel and tire assembly to the hub and drum. Once you put your wheel up on these studs, just go ahead and put your lug nuts on there. Go ahead and torque them down to the correct specs for your application. That should do it for the review of the 10 inch trailer hub and drum assembly for 3500 pound easy lube axles with the 6 on 5 1/2 inch bolt pattern.

I must say I am very impressed with customer service as I ordered the parts over the phone. The person I talked was Troy. I checked the parts on the web site and I made a list of what I needed and called customer service. Their web site made it so easy, they truly have their act together at this company. One thing I did before I placed my order was to remove one hub and checked the bearing numbers! Just to make sure. and checked the wheel stud measurements. I ordered my parts for a 3,500LB EZ Lube Axels 10" Dia - 6 on 5 1/2. So easy even a caveman can do it! I removed all the parts from the box and laid everything out and checked for any missing parts. They were spot on with the parts. My son and I removed the old tires and hubs, cleaned up the spindles. I took the new bearing and placed them on the spindles to make sure they fit. Perfect so far. I showed my son how to hand packed the bearings and set those aside. We installed the brake kit on the axels,*** Please note make sure you order the bolting kit! 8 nuts and 8 washers. only a few bucks.**** I have a 20 year old son, he asked if he could do one side, sure why not. He ended up doing both sides. He enjoyed how easy it was. Once they were bolted in place, we made sure everything was tightened down. Next we made sure the hubs were spotless, we used a brake cleaner to remove any particles to insure a good clean surface. The races were already installed at the factory, which made it so much easier. We put a nice amount of grease in the hub between where the bearings sit placed grease on the race and installed the bearing. I packed the back of the grease seal with grease and installed the seal tapping it in place with a block of wood making sure it went in nice and straight, Fit like a glove! I had my son do the other side. From there he wanted to do the rest, so I let him. Everything fit like a glove, the hubs slipped on nice and easy, installed the front bearing washer and the castle nut, The Cotter key was not included with the kit, no problem I always have extras. tightened the castle nut nice and firm to seat the bearings spin the hub around a few times and than backed the nut off about a half turn and installed the cotter pin. I put a nice amount of grease in the hub cap and tapped it into place. I have to say it was a very easy to convert to standard hub to electric brakes. Next I took a wire wheel to the frame down to bare steel and drilled a 1/4 hole, installed a waterproof wire ring terminal on one of the green wires for the ground. Tightened it down to make a nice connection and sprayed black paint over the bare steel to prevent rust, Both sides were done in the same manner. I connected the other 2 green wires and I ran wire up to the control box following the existing wires along the frame. I installed the brake controller but I forgot to order the junction box! So I am waiting for that to arrive. So I am pretty much done except for the one item. Very easy I can't say enough but, Thank you Troy! It was a pleasure dong business with E Trailer. I just wish I took some pictures! 315444

I ordered these hubs to replace the existing ones on my camping trailer so I could replace the tires with a heavier load range rating. The hubs arrived in a timely manner and were a good quality replacement. The improvement in the stability of the trailer while being towed was a very noticeable difference. etrailer has been a great company to buy from and a very good resource for information if you are not sure about a purchase. 642582

these were also a direct replacement of the original drums, these took about an hour and a half with packing the bearings, seals, installation of drum and wheels. This was a remove and replace which went very easy. 585352

  • Replacement Brakes and Hubs for a Vintage Trailer with Warner Brakes
  • Unfortunately, we do not have the 14” diameter x 2” wide braking assemblies you need for your trailer. I also did some searching online and could not find any replacement parts for you either. The only option I can offer you would be to replace with a more common size. In order to do so I would need you to measure your brake mounting flange bolt pattern in addition to your inner bearing, outer bearing, and grease seal. I have attached a help article on how to measure the bearing/seals for...

  • How to Convert 3,500 lb Dexter Axle from Wheel Bolts to Wheel Studs
  • I have a solution for you, but you would not be able to thread in wheel studs to your hub that uses lug bolts. Instead you would need to replace the hub with one that has studs mounted in them. For that we have the part # AKIHUB-655-35-K for an idler hub or part # AKHD-655-35-EZ-K for a hub drum. Both of these will fit your Dexter 3,500 lb axle and have the correct 6 lug bolt pattern.

  • Parts Needed to Add Electric Brakes to 3,500 EZ Lube Spindle Axle
  • Since we know you have 3,500 lb EZ lube spindles we can easily pick you out the components needed to add electric brakes to your trailer. First you'd want a hub. For that the most common solution is the hub part # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K. This fits 3,500 EZ lube spindles and has the very common 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern for wheel attachment. If instead you have a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern you'd want the part # AKHD-655-35-EZ-K. Then for brake assemblies you'd want the self adjusting assembly...

  • Replacement Hub, Wheel and Tire, and Brake Assembly for 3,500 AL KO Axle
  • The 3,500 lb hubs part # AKHD-655-35-EZ-K ar a fit for the 3,500 lb AL KO axles you have on your trailer and has the bolt pattern you want so that is a great place to start. For the same brake assembly we have the part # 23-26 which will match exactly. Then for a wheel and tire in the size of 225/75-15 that you have I would recommend the part # AC225R6SM because it is a great wheel and tire setup but also because it has a speed rating of 81 mph which is much higher than most trailer...

  • Recommended Hub and Drum Assembly with 6 on 5-1/2 Bolt Pattern for 2-132, 3,500 Pound Axle
  • The Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-655-35-EZ-K referenced in your question is the correct replacement for the idler hub # AKIHUB-655-35-EZ-K. The Hub and Drum Assembly has a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern and is designed for 3,500 pound E-Z Lube trailer axles with #84 spindles. • Recommended Spindles And Hubs For Trailer With 6 on 5-1/2 Inch Wheels
  • The sizes you gave line up with Timken bearings and races, however they are not compatible with standard size hubs and spindles. I recommend changing out your spindles for more long term options and compatibility. This will require a professional welder, but is a better long term option to have standard spindles. You may want to consider changing out your spindles for EZ Lube Spindle 1.75" RD x 3" STUB # R20384EZ or Spindle 1.75" RD x 4" STUB # R20484. This will give you spindles...
