  • Clean, hidden install: Under-dash design keeps the unit out of sight and knees clear.

Features to know about

Controls Trailer Brakes from Your Phone: Bluetooth OneControl App

No clunky box or knobs to deal with. The Curt Echo Under-Dash connects to your smartphone through Bluetooth, putting all your trailer brake settings right in your hand with the OneControl app. Adjust max output, fine-tune sensitivity, or hit the manual override right on-screen. The app also lets you store multiple trailer profiles so you can switch setups fast. Even if Bluetooth drops, the system keeps working with your most recent settings.

Keeps the Cab Clean and Comfortable: Hidden Under-Dash Mount

Instead of a bulky controller taking up legroom, this unit tucks neatly behind the dash. The small main box—just 3-3/8" long x 3" wide x 7/8" thick—mounts out of sight using an adhesive pad or zip ties. No drilling or cutting trim panels. You keep a clean factory look with nothing to bump your knees on.

Stops Smooth and Steady: Proportional Braking with 3-Axis Accelerometer

The Echo’s proportional control makes towing feel natural. Its internal 3-axis accelerometer senses how hard you brake and sends matching power to the trailer brakes. Hard stops get full braking force; light stops are gentle and smooth. It works with 1 to 4 axles and supports electric trailer brakes for consistent control.

Installs Fast with Plug-and-Play Harness: No Splicing Required

Hookup is simple thanks to the custom-fit harness that plugs directly into the factory port under the dash. Once connected, pair your phone via Bluetooth—usually in about five seconds—and you’re ready to calibrate and tow. The LED indicators show status and make setup easy without special tools or wiring skills.

Built for Everyday Towing: Reliable Protection and Easy Troubleshooting

Reverse polarity and short circuit protection guard against wiring mistakes, while diagnostic LEDs give quick feedback if something’s off. A limited lifetime warranty on the controller and a 1-year warranty on the harness back it up for the long haul.

Specs

Application

  • Application: trailers with 1 to 4 axles (8 brake assemblies)
  • Compatible with: electric trailer brakes

Dimensions

  • Main unit dimensions: 3-3/8" long x 3" wide x 7/8" thick

Smart Device Requirements

  • Apple: 5.0 and newer
  • Android: 4.3 and newer

Screenshot of the Curt Echo OneControl app interface showing labeled controls for manual override, brake output indicator, max output, sensitivity, and hazard light settings for the Bluetooth under-dash brake controller.

  • 1. Manual Override: This big orange button in the middle of the app is your manual override. Press and hold the button, and the brake controller will smoothly apply the trailer brakes without applying your vehicle's brakes.
  • 2. Brake Output Indicator: The outer ring gives you a visual indicator of how much power is being applied to the trailer brakes. This is determined by your max output setting.
  • 3. Max Output: Braking output is the maximum amount of power that will be applied to your trailer’s brakes. How much braking output you need is determined by the weight of your trailer; a heavier trailer will need more power to bring it to a stop.
  • 4. Sensitivity Level: This controls the aggressiveness of your trailer’s braking, meaning how quickly the brakes reach the max output level.
  • 5. Vehicle Hazard Lights: If you turn on your vehicle’s hazard lights, there’s a chance the trailer brakes will pulse on and off as the lights flash. Turn this setting on any time you activate your hazard lights to prevent this problem.

Warranty

  • Brake controller: Limited lifetime
  • Wiring harness: Limited 1-year

Note

  • If Bluetooth connection is lost: The brake controller will continue to function safely, using the most recently programmed settings. This brake controller is not compatible, but will not interfere, with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
  • If you don’t already have a 7-way plug at the back of your vehicle: Take a look at our exclusive 7- and 4-way brake controller installation kit (ETBC7 - sold separately).

What is Proportional Braking?

Proportional braking means that your trailer brakes mimic your tow vehicle's brakes. If you slam on the brakes in your vehicle, your trailer brakes will activate with the same intensity; if you brake lightly, your trailer brakes lightly too. The trailer's braking is in proportion to your vehicle's braking. This saves wear and tear on the tires and the brakes on both your vehicle and trailer.

The products are excellent and the installation instructions are very easy to follow. Products are very well made

by: Brian 04/21/2024

The combo of the Curt Spectrum brake controller and wiring harness made installation a snap

by: David04/17/2024

The Curt Echo is now on my Nissan Armada and works perfectly. It was an easy hookup with the supplied harness and does its job.

by: Michael06/26/2025

Don’t even know it’s there, set it and forget it.

by: John08/23/2022

This is the old obsolete model of Curt Echo which has to be installed under the dashboard. The newer version, which attaches to the electrical system in the rear of the vehicle, is superior and now preferred by most trailer owners. The above version should be taken off the catalog.

by: JimB 08/26/2024

This is my first proportional brake controller. Stopping is much smoother without sacrificing safety. Communication by bluetooth makes for a clean installation.

by: Steve H.02/25/2022

This controller took me literally 15 minutes to install with the required pigtail and my Rubicon with factory towing package installed. When I initially downloaded the app and connected, it actuated and locked the brakes. I simple deleted the app and reinstalled and everything worked normal.

by: Pamela01/09/2021

We got a new truck and needed to convert our trailer breaking unit to the new truck. I wrote to be sure what I needed, got an answer right away, ordered it, and it was easily installed!

by: Chris10/03/2022

Was not aware this device draws on the battery constantly. I don't daily drive my truck and have had to replace the battery twice in one month due to being drained below the point where they could be recharged. $[XX] later and this controller removed, I've not had any problems with the battery

by: T Jones03/08/2025

Easy plug and play. Would buy again.

by: Scott09/18/2022

This brake controller has to be unplugged when not in use or it drains the battery in a few days. I had to have a electrical test done in my vehicle ($XXX). The etrailer tech said the test was done incorrectly. The Chevy dealer claims it was accurate. I’m left with a problem.

by: Earl 08/21/2023

Needed a brake controller I could rely on because I was pulling my camper to a site at the top of a 25% grade within a few days. Unit plugged right into the harness for the factory brake controller (with the adapter cable) on my 2014 Ford F-150,and worked perfectly. Bluetooth connectivity works through the app (rather than through the phone's "settings" icon),and connects instantly. I'm very pleased with this product.

by: Patrick03/28/2022

As first time truck and pop-up trailer users, we initially purchased a cheaper brake controller that required drilling the dash. This is a new truck, so we decided to switch and spend more for the Bluetooth. etrailer was easy to work with for a return, and the Bluetooth brake controller is fantastic - so easy to use with our new trailer!

by: Chris 08/20/2022

I really wanted a trailer brake controller that I didn’t have to stick an ugly knob/box hanging off my dash. This was my solution and it works perfectly. Plugged right into my Honda Ridgeline existing plug, and easily connected to the app on my phone. Nice setup.

by: Thomas05/13/2025

Easy hook up to the OEM plug

by: Thomas03/07/2024

This is used on a 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 pulling a 16' enclosed cargo trailer. With the appropriate adaptor cable it was very easy to install, just plug in and mount in a convenient spot. Once installed it was simple to get it matched to the weight and brake setup of the trailer. Close to 6k miles with it so far & very happy.

by: Travis 09/06/2022

The wiring adapters worked great. It made installation quick, easy, and clean.

@Travis The custom brake controller adapters like the Curt # C51525 certainly make the brake controller install much quicker and less complicated!

by: Paul08/29/2022

I was looking for a trailer brake controller that did not require a permanent mounting to the dash or center console of my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. I initially considered the wireless bluetooth controller from Curt Echo that plugs directly into the 7-pin outlet next to the tow hitch. However, reviews from individuals that tow RV trailers identified that particular option prevents the 12v battery on the trailer from charging off of the TV while connected. This would limit the RV utilization during long trips involving boondocking.
The Curt Echo under-dash controller seems to solve that problem and uses the same user interface as the Curt Echo.
Easy to install and operate; problem solved!

by: Michael 04/05/2023

Easiest install ever !
Plug and play.
App is easy understand and use.
My favorite is with the app and on selected active profile you can see the amount of brake amount is being applied to the trailer when the vehicle brakes are applied. I also install the manual override button. FYI: you don’t need the app on your phone open for the controller or the manual override button to work. Also another nice feature of the manual override button is the size about the size of a quarter, uses a CR2032 battery and the battery level is displayed in the app.

by: James 12/19/2023

This was relatively easy to install under the dash of our 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, especially since ours has the factory Trailer Tow Package and therefore an existing pigtail connector ready to connect to the brake controller. The Curt wiring adapter made it super easy to connect the Brake Controller to the vehicle's wiring harness. The controller was easy to calibrate and worked seamlessly while we're towing a rented trailer. We used a dedicated (older) cell phone to operate it while we're towing to avoid any potential interference from other apps rather than using our regular phone on which we receive phone calls texts, etc. This was our first time towing a trailer and this easy-to-use Brake Controller helped make us feel safe and comfortable. Highly recommended.

by: Billy04/22/2025

Just what I needed to move my brake controller to my new truck. Best price that I found.

by: Alan03/12/2024

Do not buy either the Curt Under-Dash or plug-in Wireless brake controllers until Lippert fixes the phone app. I’ve used both happily with the old ECHO Smart Control app. I could use the remote manual button with the phone app not even running. As one would reasonably expect the button talked to the controller directly via Bluetooth. The new OneControl Auto app must be running and in the foreground to use the manual remote! And the most recent version of ECHO Smart Control is non-functional, it just tells you to install OneControl Auto.

by: Matthew 11/25/2023

The break controller worked seamlessly. Profiles are easy to set up and it has very reliable Bluetooth connectivity with my phone. Installation was really easy on my Honda Pilot!

This kit contains everything you need to upgrade the 4-flat to a 7-way, including all of the necessary wires for a brake controller. The standard Curt Echo # C51180 does use the same technology as the Curt Echo Under-Dash # C27JR, but whenever I've heard about the pairing issue being a problem it causes settings to become erratic rather than just being a struggle to find the correct setting. • Comparing Redarc Liberty and Curt Spectrum Brake Controllers For a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500
Personally, I have seen a lot fewer issues with the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED24FR than with the Curt Spectrum # C51170. The Spectrum was released in early 2018. Currently Redarc only offers the one size control knob. To install the Redarc Liberty # RED24FR in your 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 you will need the Tekonsha Pigtail # 3064-P and the Redarc to Tekonsha Adapter # 331-TPH-017. This will support up to 2 braking axles or 4 brake assemblies. If you go with the Curt Spectrum # C51170...

The factory trailer brake controller port on your 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe is located underneath the dash just to the left of the steering wheel. It will be taped to another harness so it may take a bit of looking to find. Keep in mind that if your Tahoe does not have the factory tow package, the connector may not be there and you would need to hardwire a controller. At this time (5/30/2021) the only plug-in adapter confirmed to fit is the Curt Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers...

  • Where is the Factory Trailer Brake Controller Port On a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe
If your 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe does not have the factory tow package then the plug may not be there. If this is the case you would need to hardwire in a brake controller. If your Tahoe does have the tow package then the plug will be under the dash. The plug will often times be taped together with another harness making it not always apparent that it is the plug you are looking for. You may need to do some searching to find the correct plug. Currently at this time (2/10/2022) the only adapter...

  • Recommended Custom Fit Brake Controller Adapter to Install a Primus in a 2026 Chevy Silverado 1500
Hey Jason, congrats on the new truck! Tekonsha's parent company is going through bankruptcy and is under investigation for a massive fraud scheme. They have not made a custom fit wiring harness for your 2026 Chevy Silverado 1500 and I would not expect there to be one. The only solution I have to install your Primus brake controller is to use the Curt Custom Wiring Adapter item # C51525. This will plug directly into the factory port on your Silverado. You'll then need to cut the Curt specific...

  • What Brake Controller Do You Recommend For My 2022 GMC Yukon XL AT4

You will also need the Curt Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers - Dual Plug In, part # C51525. This controller can be installed in your cab in any orientation and it plugs into...

  • How to Tell If You Have Factory Tow Package on a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Hey Rob, typically you can tell if you have the factory tow package by checking to see if there is a hitch which you mention it does, and check to see if there is wiring set up back there as well. If you have both of those things, there is a good chance that you have the factory tow package. You can also take your VIN down and take it to a Chevy dealer and they should be able to tell you if you have it or not.
