I installed the Curt Spectrum brake controller on my 2022 Silverado and it is not getting power or lighting up... not sure what the problem is?

Hi Adam,

Since you used the Curt Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers # C51525 to install the Curt Spectrum Trailer Brake Controller # C51170 you likely have either a blown trailer brake fuse or they just never installed one to begin with. The trailer brake fuse should be number 84 in the engine compartment fuse block. I recommend checking it and seeing if you're getting power or if you just need to add in a fuse to get power to the brake controller.

I have the same setup with the Curt Spectrum controller in a 2022 Silverado Trail Boss and also used the Curt Custom Wiring adapter...and I also don't have power to the controller. I did check the fuse and even swapped it with the one next to it (also a 30amp) and still doesn't work. I've disconnected and reconnected all the plugs just to double check those. Any other suggestions?

@Ryan Do you have a circuit tester? I would disconnect the brake controller and check the pin with the black wire running from it for voltage to see if the problem is power to the controller or the controller itself.

@JamesonC I just checked and I do, in fact, have 12v at the black wire. So that would imply there's an issue in the controller itself?

@jamesonC Did some more testing. Have ~5v (4.9 to be precise) on the red wire coming out of the controller to the adjustment knob. And have that same voltage at where that red wire connects to the circuit board on the back of the knob itself. Would that be normal?
