Boat trailers live hard lives, and saltwater eats through ordinary steel in no time. This Dexter marine-grade trailer hub is coated with zinc that’s been tested to withstand 500 hours of constant salt spray exposure. That corrosion resistance means it keeps looking good and spinning smooth even after repeated dunking in saltwater or wet conditions.
Everything you need comes in the box, so there’s no running around for small parts. The kit includes inner and outer bearings (L44643), matching races (L44610), grease seal (34823), grease cap, and galvanized lug nuts. Just slide it onto your 2,000-lb axle spindle, torque down the 1/2"-diameter studs, and you’re ready to roll.
Sized for 10"–12" wheels and rated for 1,000 lbs per hub, this idler fits standard 5 on 4-1/2" bolt patterns with a 5-1/2" hub flange diameter. The bearings have a 1" inner diameter on both sides for a snug, balanced fit that keeps your trailer tracking straight and your tires wearing evenly.
Whether you’re hauling fishing gear to the ramp or equipment across rough ground, this galvanized hub holds up to years of use. The durable finish resists chipping and corrosion, while the pre-installed races make assembly a quick bolt-on job without hammering or special tools. It’s a dependable upgrade that keeps your trailer ready whenever you need it.
1. Count the lug holes
Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).
Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug
2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"
2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Today we're going to review part number 8-259-50BTUC1. This is Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly for 2,000 pound axles. Has the 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern, a galvanized finish. Now this galvanized assembly is great for marine use. The hub itself will fit 2,000 pound idler axles. Everything shown here on the table is included: the inner and outer bearings.
The bearing races are included; they're actually pre-installed in the hub already. The grease cap is included, the grease seal, and then five of the 1/2" lug nuts. Now this is a marine-grade trailer hub assembly that fits on idler axles. This trailer hub assembly has a zinc coating that will help resist corrosion, makes it ideal for us on your boat or your snow mobile trailer. This does have a galvdex 00:51 coating, which will undergo a test in which they are sprayed with a 5% salt solution and it helps determine the corrosion resistance over time. These products are able to withstand 500 hours of constant exposure to that salt water mist.
This 500 hour salt spray rating indicates that this product is not only durable enough to last in freshwater environments but it can also be used on trailer that come into contact with saltwater. Again, the application is 2,000 pound axles. Now the hub flange diameter, which if you drew a circle around the outer edge of this, the diameter of that is 5-1/2". Because of that, this will work with wheels 8" to 12" in diameter. The bolt pattern is a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. The wheel studs are a 1/2" diameter so they do use 1/2" lug nuts.
The weight capacity on one of these is 1,000 pounds, so when you use this with one on the other side of the axle it will get you a 2,000 pound rating for the axle. Again, the bearing are included. They use both the same inner and outer bearing. It's part number L44643. The grease seal's included; it's part number 34823. That should do it for the review on part number 8-259-50BTUC1, the Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly for your 2,000 pound axles, with the 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern.

Still on the trailer and working out well. I have put some hard miles on them and they seem to be holding up. Just shot some grease in them before the next trip.

Everything is working good after 1 year. I like the galvanized products to prevent premature rusting.
