rebuilding boat trailer

Updated 10/10/2024 | Published 07/14/2014

Question:

I am in process of changing wheels on my boat trailer 4.80-8 integral wheels. I would like to convert them to luged wheels. I am not sure if these hubs 8-259-50BTUC1 will work for my application. I have a 1 1/4 spindle using lm67048 bearings, 1 7/8 distance from back of bearing to back of bearing. Lug pattern does not matter at this time as I do not have a solution to this question.

Expert Reply:

If both of the bearings on the existing hub are LM67048 then we will not have a match. This is likely an older hub design or an agricultural hub that is not used much any more.

The best solution at this time is to replace the axle which surprisingly isn't as expensive as many people think. I have included a link below to the axles we carry.

I have a vintage 1979 Mark-Fore Vatco industries SPN 100, 40"x48" utility trailer with integral 480 x 8 tires. I would like to convert the rims to a four-lug rim. Is there a conversion kit readily available? Or will I need to take measurements of the spindle/axle to find the correct bearing size and correct hub kit?

@OwenH you will have to measure the spindle/identify the bearings to find hubs that fit.
