Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Product specs were listed clearly and helped to make an easy decision. They shipped quickly and arrived with everything I ordered. Have not yet tried them on my application but if they don't work it will not be etrailer's fault. Couldn't find these hubs anywhere else and wanted to put the same thing back on the trailer that I will be taking off. 441692

I recently upgraded my 43 year old small boat trailer with parts from ETRAILER. New hubs, bearings, Bearing Buddy's, wheels and tires. Natalie L spent quite a bit of time on the phone with me to figure out what I needed and when it arrived everything was perfect. This is the first time I have replaced the hubs and wheels in 43 years. Timely service, great prices and I could not be more pleased. 377480

Great product. This was an extremely hard part to find until I learned about etrailer. I replaced the hubs on a boat trailer that has been sitting since the 80's. Hubs were greased and ready to go out of the box. Great packaging that is easy to keep one as a spare in a trailer. 373868

Received in a timely manner (3 days after ordering) and I couldn't be happier. This is in its own carry case and comes greased with everything you need to slide it on, put the castle nut on and drop a cotter pin in. I am planning to make a longer trip up to Northern Wisconsin this coming weekend and wanted to have a spare hub for quick repair if something went wrong. This is the ticket for a reasonable price. Hopefully I wont need it but if I do I have it ready to go. 281385

Excellent and fast service. Had an issue with one factory sealed box containing the wrong part - not etrailer's fault. Erica and the etrailer team got me the correct part shipped the same day I called. And they checked the box to make sure there was not another factory mistake. Really nice people to trade with. 240444

Ask the Experts about this CE Smith Trailer Hubs and Drums
Do you have a question about this Trailer Hubs and Drum?

  • How to Find the Correct Replacement Hub
  • There is a way to find the correct replacement hub, but not by the size of the hub face. In order to find the correct replacement hubs for your trailer, you need to first know what bearings your current hub has; you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them. If you are unable to find them, you need to use a digital caliper such as # 301-17068 and measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch where the bearings and grease seal ride. You can use the photo I've attached...

  • Selecting New Hub to Replace Old Hub That Used Bolts
  • Strictly speaking you could change your hubs by installing threaded studs that would accept lug nuts in place of the bolts that currently secure your wheels. But honestly, I would just replace the hubs since yours are fairly old at this point. The keys to selecting new hubs for your boat trailer are 1) matching up their weight rating to the axle rating; 2) matching the wheel bolt pattern, in this case 4-on-4; and 3) matching up the bearings used in the old and new hubs. A new hub...

  • Recommended Galvanized Hubs For Utility Trailer Used For Aluminum Boat Launching
  • For your utility trailer, I recommend the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 - Galvanized # AKIHUB-545-2-G-1K since you use it for boat launching. This assembly will include all of your bearings, races, and grease seal. Your current bearing buddy caps will work with these hubs. If you need a new set, I recommend the Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors - Model 1980A-SS w/ Auto Check - Stainless Steel (Pair) # BB1980A-SS. If you want a heavier duty grease seal you...

  • Recommended Replacement Hub Assembly With 4 On 4 Bolt Pattern And Pre-Installed Components
  • We have a trailer hub assembly that may work well for you. It is the CE Smith Trailer Hub Assembly, part # CE13100. This hub is designed for 2,500-lb axles and has a 4 on 4 bolt pattern. It is threaded for the wheel bolts and not the nuts as you mentioned. This assembly comes with the bearings, races, and grease seal. The grease seal is part # 12192TB and it has a 1.249 inner diameter and 1.983 outer diameter. This assembly comes pre-packed and pre-greased with marine-grade lubricant...

  • Longer Spindle Recommendation for Sterling Trailer to Fit CE Smith Hub # CE13100
  • I really wish we had a fit for your STUB version of the BT8 spindle. Everything we have now is for the longer BT8 spindles like the part # R104BT8 which is 4 inches long. If you swapped your spindle to this one you could then use the hub part # CE13100 that you mentioned.

  • Measuring the Bolt Pattern of a Trailer Hub and is there a 4 on 3 Inch Bolt Pattern
  • Are you measuring from one bolt to the next or from one across the hub to the opposite one? Because on a 4 on 4 hub if you measure from one to the next you will get about 2.8 inches. But if you measure across it is 4 inches like in the picture I have included. If you can tell me the inner and outer bearing numbers of the hubs you have I can make some recommendations for new hubs.

  • What is the Pilot Diameter of the CE Smith Trailer Hub Assembly # CE13100
  • On the CE Smith Trailer Hub Assembly # CE13100 the base of the side that your wheel will fit measured about 2-3/4 inches as demonstrated in the attached picture. Keep in mind that this hub has a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern and the wheel with the maximum diameter that will fit it is 12 inches. This would work perfectly with a wheel like the Aluminum HWT Series S5 Trailer Wheel # AM22318HWTB.

  • Recommended Grease for Repacking Bearings on CE Smith Trailer Hub Assembly # CE13100
  • I spoke with my contact at CE Smith regarding the Trailer Hub Assembly # CE13100 that you reference. She stated that they use an NLGI # 2 red grease like the LubriMatic LMX Industrial Strength Grease # L11390. This will be compatible with the grease currently in the hub, but I do still recommend removing as much grease from the hubs as you can when repacking, as it's possible that the old grease may be contaminated from moisture. I have attached a great article on repacking trailer...

  • Hub length of CE Smith Trailer 13110 and 13100
  • I went out to the warehouse and found that the CE Smith Trailer Hub Assembly # CE13100 measured about 4-1/4" but that was with the plastic still wrapped around it. If you took the plastic away it would probably measure closed to 4-1/8". The assembly # CE13110 that you referenced is the same exact hub with the only difference being that it uses wheels studs and the part # CE13100 uses wheel bolts.
