I had to replace a 3 year old tie down engineering caliper on my boat trailer. These are a little more rugged, a little bit beefier. They did fit directly onto the 090-44681x bracket from the old tie down engineering caliper.

+Its been a year since I got these. When I bought them I painted them with a bake on caliper paint. This is a boat trailer that gets ocean submerged about 80 times a season. The calipers look great and function like new.

by:
This is the wrong part! I am replacing a Tie Down Eng 46304, the caliper you sent me is a Kodiak 225. The caliper bolts required are .495 (1/2”). The ones with the Kodiak are .425. Also to fit this caliper will requires filing the caliper bracket. Also the caliper mounting bosses on the two calipers are different
by:
Was the replacement for my discontinued caliper I hoped for (just ordered 3 more). Thanks for the information on distance between pins. Did have to grind very little from casting to fit bracket on my prestige boat trailer.

That's awesome, Michael. Glad to hear those calipers are working well for you!

Impressed with the price, ease of online purchase experience and the timely delivery as expected. Also, staff was diligent about sending up to date emails with the order process from ordering to delivery. I like the personal touch of the "about me" and the contact info in the event of an issue. I have since placed a new order for some other products as I was pleased with the experience and price. I will definitely use e-trailer again in the future. Thanks! Dave

@DaveD That's great! How often are you towing with your trailer?
by:
I’m very disappointed in this purchase. The bleeders on these calipers aren’t bleeders at all the holes don’t go through and there isn’t a taper in the bottom of the hole in the caliper for a traditional bleeder. You have to buy additional fittings and bleeders to to be able to properly bleed the system. There is nothing mentioned about this anywhere. For the cost of these calipers you shouldn’t have to buy additional parts.
by:
Replaced 4 on boat trailer. Did have to grind edges on 2 to fit my bracket but all lined up to replace the discontinued ones from manufacture. Now to get filled and bled. Wish me luck!!!
by:
Calipers fit perfectly, easy installation and customer service was excellent, at assisting me with getting the correct part, thank you Jacob!
by:
Perfect fit on my 2004 MasterCraft tandem axle trailer. Drop in replacement for the "Reliable" calipers that were on there.
Incredibly fast shipping, came loaded with pads and all the hardware needed to bolt them right up and bleed them. Couldnt be happier!

One year later - my only regret is not doing the Kodiak install sooner!

by:
I have bench tested all 4ea Kodiak Disc Brake Calipers with DOT 3 brake fluid. All 4 passed. I purchased these to directly replace the TDE 46304 disc brake Calipers. I am not a fan of the single metal spring that holds the pad to the piston. The manufacture design needs improvement. The 3 prong attachment on the piston pad worked best.
by:
This is a replacement for a defective caliper I installed on 8/2025. It will not release, and overheated. My mistake to order that one from amazon. They passed the buck to wholesale marine, they told me I had to go to Dexter for warrenty. so far no credit.
by:
Just what I needed. Shipping was fast! Thanks!
by:
great fit for replacing tie down calipers
by:
Once again etrailer came through for me! While performing brake and suspension maintenance on my 2019 Grand Design 337RLS I found one of my brake calipers was leaking fluid and the inside pad was virtually gone. Leaving for an extended trip in 4 days. etrailer got me a new caliper express shipped and after installing I have some breathing room before departure! Thank you again etrailer!!!
by:
The brake pad attachment spring that attaches to the piston is of poor quality. The brake pad pops back out of the caliper piston even before the caliper assembly can be installed. This will cause uneven rotor wear and braking failure. Unacceptable pad attachment condition
by:
Perfect match thanks for your help and fast delivery!!
by:
These are better than original. Installation for a triple axle trailer only took an hour not including running brake lines.
by:
Polite, courteous, and efficient
by:
great service!

efficient ordering and delivery of product. thank you and I hope it works as well as the original unit.
by:
Much better quality then the stock caliper by far.
by:
Direct replacement for my Tie Down Engineering 46304 caliper. Just installed so we’ll see how it holds up in saltwater. Brakes worked well.
by:
Replaced a failing pair of Tie Down Engineering (TDE) 46304 brake calipers with these Kodiak 225 calipers on my 7 year old Four Winns trailer with 12" discs. They fit exactly on the TDE brackets and are positioned perfectly on the TDE integrated 12" discs. Bled the brakes and the test drive was a success.

The trailer is garage kept and only used in fresh water lakes. The TDE pistons looked fine when I disassembled them. No rust, no crude. I cleaned and lubricated them and put them back on and bled the brakes. However, when one of them got hot the piston it would still stick and overheat the brake. Also, when backing up without the electric harness attached I could tell the brakes were attempting to stop, but I could still back up fairly easily, so I guessing the piston where binding in both directions although I could not tell that when I had them off the trailer. In contrast, the new Kodiak brake calipers will not allow me to back up at all unless I have the electric harness attached.
by:
This caliper fit perfect on a Tiedown equipped boat trailer without changing any mounting brackets. Time will tell how well it withstands salt water.
by:
Part includes mounting bolts and brake pads. Xlnt value for money.
by:
The calipers were direct replacements for the set of four I had installed 4 years ago. Currently they are working fine and are being fed through new brake lines. Hopefully they will last longer this time but saltwater is hard on stuff. I rinse them every time with salt away. Only problem is that they didn’t come when promised, and I could have gotten them cheaper elsewhere on the same day as these came. 5 stars if they came when they were supposed to.

  • How to Find Correct Replacement Braking Assemblies for a 1989 EZ Loader Trailer
The part number supplied looks like it's coming back to the Raybestos FRC11046 brake calipers which as you are aware are not available anymore. That being said, we don't have any replacement parts for these braking assembles as we've never carried their parts. It's typically much more cost effective to just replace the entire assembly, which is what I recommend doing. In order to find the correct braking assemblies, I am going to need a bit more information about what you're working with....

  • What Rotor Sizes Does Kodiak Disc Brake Caliper Fit
The Kodiak Disc Brake Caliper - Dacromet - 3,500 lbs to 6,000 lbs # KDBC225DAC is only designed to fit 10" or 12" rotors, and it looks like the Tie Down 46304 may be for 9.6" rotors, so the fit may be off due to that. There isn't any type of new mounting bracket available, and the best option we have is for you to get a new hub and rotor assembly, as we don't carry Tie Down parts and this may not be an exact fit otherwise. For that you need to know the weight rating of your axle, your...

  • Bleeding Trailer Brakes After Installing Kodiak 225 Disc Brake Calipers
When you bleed the brakes on your trailer after installing the Kodiak Calipers # KDBC225DAC, you will want to start with the brake that is furthest away from the actuator. Of the two bleeder valves, you will want to use the bleeder valve that is on the top. If you are manually bleeding the brakes, it is easiest to use a clear jar to collect the brake fluid in so it is easier to see when there are no more bubbles in the fluid. Be sure to open the top bleeder valve when you are bleeding...

Hey Allen, welcome back! For the Kodiak 225 calipers with 10-inch rotors, mount the calipers behind the axle on both axles. Looking at the trailer from the roadside, the calipers will end up around the 3 o'clock position on the driver's side and the 9 o'clock position on the passenger side.
