When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the hydraulic actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. When this happens, the actuator contracts, applying force to its master cylinder. This in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes.

Electric Reverse Lockout

The electric reverse lockout on this trailer brake actuator is automatically activated when you shift your tow vehicle into reverse. The solenoid wires into your trailer connector - which connects to your tow vehicle - so that it can detect when you are in reverse. When your vehicle is in reverse, the solenoid ensures that the hydraulic actuator does not activate your trailer's brakes, thus allowing you to back up your rig. To use the lockout feature, you must have a 5-pole flat, 6-way round, or 7-pole trailer connector.

eZ-Latch Coupler

The coupler portion of this trailer brake actuator features a simple-to-use latching mechanism known as the eZ-Latch. With this mechanism, hooking up is as easy as dropping the coupler over your trailer hitch ball. The latch does not need to be tugged or manually activated to allow the ball into the coupler socket, nor does it have to be secured in place. Just make sure that the coupler is properly lined up with the ball when you lower it, and the rest is automatic.

Sturdy, Corrosion-Resistant Construction

Made of sturdy steel, this hydraulic trailer brake actuator features a durable zinc coating that is designed to limit rust and corrosion. This zinc coat has a 200-hour salt spray rating. Even the master cylinder is made of rustproof aluminum to further ensure durability.

Speaker 1: Today I'm going to take a look at the Demco 2-5/16 Diameter Hitch Ball eZ-Latch Hydraulic Trailer Brake Actuator for Disc Brakes. This one has an electric lockout included, and a 12,500 pound weight capacity. Now, this hydraulic actuator will activate your trailer brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops. This one uses an electric reverse lockout on the back here that lets you back up without actuating your trailer brakes. The solenoid will activate automatically when you shift into reverse. The solenoid is attached to a heavy duty aluminum master cylinder, which is durable, rustproof, and efficient. It's built for high-pressure applications, and allows 50% greater displacement than your standard master cylinders. This actuator's a zinc plating, which offers corrosion resistance.

Has a 200 hour salt spray rating. This does use the eZ-Latch coupler mechanism for simple, secure hookup and disconnect. Basically, it'll let you hook up your latch when it is in closed position, like it is right now. You just drop the coupler over the hitch ball and the latch will snap into place.Just to show you that, I happened to pull a 2-5/16 diameter hitch ball, what this actuator's designed for. You can see if we lift it up, put it onto the ball, and then just push down.

You'll see that it'll automatically lock into place, seed onto the ball, and you're ready to go. Then to unhook it, just pull up on this latch at the bottom here. Pull it all the way up, and then you can release it from the ball. So, it's a simple connection, just like that.It does have a built-in 4" drop here to help you match tow vehicle height. And on the inside of this actuator, they use an acetyl copolymer lining, which provide a nice, smooth operation as this actuator will telescope in and out. Now, the breakaway here, you can see, is all included.

It has the snap hook on the safety cable, which ensures secure connection to your breakaway lever right here. This is all a nice durable steel construction with a sturdy, reinforced outer casing. Now, this is a bolt-on installation. You can see right here at the bottom. It does require a 1/2" by 4-1/2" Grade 5 bolts for mounting. Now, those are not included. This part is made in the U.S.A.

Specs on this again, the application is for trailers with hydraulic disc brakes. The ball size it fits on is a 2-5/16 diameter. Gross towing weight capacity is 12,500 pounds. Maximum tongue weight is 1,250 pounds. It is designed to mount on a straight 3" wide trailer tongue. The drop, again, we mentioned is 4", and this actuator also goes by the model number of DA10.But that should do it for the review on the Demco 2-5/16 Hitch Ball Diameter eZ-Latch Latch Hydraulic Trailer Brake Actuator for Disc Brakes, with the electric lockout and a 12,500 pound weight capacity.

The actuator itself has been operating flawlessly but as previously documented via emails, the backup solenoid failed on the first usage (i.e., wouldn't release the brake fluid pressure when energized). I had to swap out my old solenoid and reuse it so that the actuator was fully functional. It seems that cheaper solenoids are prone to failure and are being installed on new actuators. I disassembled the failed solenoid, connected the solenoid to a 12.5 VDC power source, and found that the electromagnet wasn't strong enough to lift the valve plunger upon energizing when pressurized by brake fluid. I would suggest that the purchasing department return back to the older style, more reliable solenoids. That is why I only gave three stars on this review. 642621
