Recommended Disc Brake Components for Nuwa Hitchhiker 5th Wheel Trailer Conversion

Published 02/16/2018

Question:

For your Nuwa Hitchhiker 5th wheel, I recommend you start with the Kodiak 12" Hub-and-Rotor Assembly - 6 on 5-1/2 # KHR12D. For this assembly you will need the bearing kit # Bearing Kit # BK3-100. For your grease caps you will need # RG04-060 which come in sets. For your calipers, I recommend the Kodiak Disc Brake Caliper - Dacromet# KDBC225DAC along with the mounting bracket # KCMB12D and brake pads # K225CP. For your brake lines and your Electric Over Hydraulic actuator, I recommend the HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Kit for Disc Brakes - 1,600 psi # HBA16-252-82. This will give you the steel lines you desire along with the flexible hose for the calipers. This kit will contain all the fittings you need and is compatible with your Prodigy brake controller. To make your wiring connections easy, I recommend the Epicord 7-Way Molded Trailer Plug with Junction Box # 277-000141 along with ring terminals # 44-5310A. Let me know if you have further questions, but this will be all of the components needed for your conversion.

Good catch and my apologies for not catching that. We don't carry the Nev-R-Lube hubs for your disc brake conversion. The price-point as you stated for the Nev-R-Lube bearings just isn't great for most people and this is a very specific application. My recommendation is to change your axles to the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System - Spindle w/ Brake Flange - Regular Tires - 7K # TASR7KS01 which will allow you to use the brake components I previously recommended that are an industry standard size. This will give you the EZ Lube spindles for simple maintenance. Let me know if you have further questions.
