Video Transcript for Kodiak Trailer Brakes K250CP Review

Speaker 1: Today, we're going to take a look at the Kodiak ceramic break pads for 7,000 to 8,000-pound calipers. Now, these will provide superior performance for consistent braking. They're able to withstand high temperatures without becoming soft or worn, and they last longer than the organic and semi-metallic pads. They do resist corrosion. They have a carbon ceramic, which withstands 196 hour salt spray test. The backing plate is double-coated in polyurethane. These pads do produce less dust than the NAO, which is the non-asbestos organic, or the semi-metallic models.

If you notice, the edges are inaudible 00:00:34 to prevent squeal. They do last up to twice as long as your traditional, organic pads. This part is for a quantity of four of them, which will replace break pads on two disc break assemblies. They are made in the USA. Again, the applications are for calipers that are rated at 7,000 to 8,000 pounds. That should do it for the review on the Kodiak ceramic break pads for 7,000 to 8,000-pound calipers..

I had to replace the disc brake pads on my trailer because one of the pads friction material had broken off the metal backing plate. The pads were worn about one quarter of its original thickness. These disc brake pads are expensive compared to automotive brake pads that are twice the size. I do love my trailer disc brakes, it's the only way to go with a heavy trailer, I just expected better quality for the price. 550030

The pads arrived in a reasonable amount of time. If I had to complain about something, it would be that there is to much room in the box that contains the pads. They get jostled around in route and have some chips on the pad edges. But not a big deal. 633344

Ask the Experts about this Kodiak Accessories and Parts

Do you have a question about this Accessories and Part?

  • Cross Reference For Disc Brakes for Trailer Based on Automotive Applications
  • So the part number MKD289 is an automotive application for brake pads. If that's the style you need the correct replacement is the # K225CP which is the match. I attached a chart that has some other interesting info for picking out replacement brake pads in the event you could only use a local auto parts store. Other pads mentioned in that chart are # K250CP in the middle chart and # K338CP at the bottom.

  • Replacement Rotors and Brake Pads for 7,000 lb Lippert Axle
  • For your 2007 Teton Homes Experience, I recommend the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 13" Hub/Rotor - 8 on 6-1/2 - Dacromet - 7,000 lbs # K2HR712D for the entire disc brake kit. For just the hub assemblies with rotors, I recommend the Kodiak 13" Hub and Rotor - 8 on 6-1/2 - Dacromet - 9/16" Bolts # KHR1389D and bearing kit # BK3-200. For the brake pads, I recommend the Kodiak Ceramic Brake Pads - Stainless Steel Back # K250CP-SS or ceramic back # K250CP.

  • Needing Replacement Disc Brake Pads of 7,000 Lbs Axles
  • The Kodiak Ceramic Brake Pads, # K250CP or # K250CP-SS, that you referenced can both be used to replace your current brake pads on your trailer's axles. The difference between the two is the # K250CP-SS disc brake pads have stainless steel backs. The stainless steel backs will provide resistance to corrosion and rust, especially in marine applications. The pads on both sets are made of a ceramic material the is designed to last longer than your traditional organic pads and the semi-metallic...

  • Recommended Electric Over Hydraulic Conversion for Dutchmen Voltage 3818 Toy Hauler Triple Axle
  • We do have the ability to convert your Dutchmen Voltage 3818 to Electric over Hydraulic brakes. First you will want the brake assemblies and for those, I recommend the Hydraulic Brake Kit - Uni-Servo - Free Backing - 12" - Left/Right Hand Assemblies - 5.5K to 7K # AKFBBRK-7 (one kit per axle). Then you will need brake lines like the Deluxe Hydraulic Line Kit - Tandem Axle - Drum # 9579-2 along with the Hydraulic Line Kit, 3rd Axle - Drum and Disc # 9579-01. Then I recommend the HydraStar...

  • Replacement Brake Pad Recommendation for Dexter 8k Axles
  • For your Dexter 8k axles that have you would have to get the part # K71-629. Since the Kodiak pads haven't been tested in the Dexter calipers I can't make that recommendation.

  • What Size Are The Kodiac Ceramic Brake Pads # K250CP?
  • The Kodiak Ceramic Brake Pads - 7,000 lbs to 8,000 lbs # K250CP in some ways is rated for the 8,000 lb axle braking. So it will give you braking on 3 axles rated for 8,000 lbs when you use 3 kits. These brake pads are not easy to specify dimensions, so I've attached a photo to help with measurements being of the backing plate not the brake material.

  • Disc Brake Pad Cross Reference for Kodiak 250 Caliper
  • We do not have a Kodiak disc brake caliper cross reference to automotive calipers but for the brake pads there are cross referenced parts. If you refer to the linked image you'll see a partial list of cross-compatibility of brake shoes for GM applications. The linked pages display both complete Kodiak brakes as well as parts.

  • Are Kodiak Disc Brake Kits K250CP and K250CP-SS for Two Brake Assemblies
  • Parts # K250CP-SS and # K250CP are both two sets of pads, each enough to re-fit the two disc brake assemblies on one axle.

  • Availability of Disc Brake Pads for a Kodiak 250 Caliper on a Double Tree Fifth Wheel
  • The disc brake pads that we have for the Kodiak caliper that is marked 250 is the Kodiak Ceramic Brake Pads, part # K250CP, that you have referenced. These pads are for use on calipers that are rated for 7,000 lbs to 8,000 lbs. The D215 number is the part number that is on the automotive brake pads that can be used in the Kodiak calipers. It can use the same disc brake pads as used on the front axle of the early 1980s and early 1990s GM FWD model vehicles.

  • Converting Triax 5th Wheel Trailer with 7k Dexter Axles to Disc Brakes
  • We have the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit part # K2HR712D which is the correct hub/rotor set for the 7k axles on your trailer. You'd need 3 of these for your trailer and then an electric over hydraulic actuator like the # HBA16 you mentioned. I would actually recommend the # HBA16-252-82 though as it comes with the breakaway kit plus enough lines for two of your axles. For the third axle you'd then want the part # 9579-01.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Disc Brake Pads that Wear Unevenly
  • Usually the problem is associated with sticking calipers and the fix for the problem is to clean and grease the slide pins. Since it is happening to both axles on one side of your trailer you could have an alignment issue. For replacement pads you would want the Kodiak Ceramic Brake Pads # K250CP.

  • Replacement Disc Brake Pads for 2008 Triton Boat Trailer
  • The disc brake calipers on your 2008 Triton Boat Trailer are not typically the Titan style. If you have the factory calipers then you will want the Kodiak style pads. If you have 3,500 lb to 6,000 lb axles, then use the Kodiak Ceramic Brake Pads w/Stainless Steel Backing Plate - 3,500 lbs to 6,000 lbs # K225CPSS. If you have 7,000 to 8,000 lb axles, use the Kodiak Ceramic Brake Pads - 7,000 lbs to 8,000 lbs # K250CP. If you calipers have been replaced and say Titan on them then the...

  • Troubleshooting Disc Brake Performance on Fifth Wheel Towed by 2005 Ford F350 with OEM Brake Control
  • If your pads and rotors are in good shape, your electric over hydraulic actuator is functioning properly and you are satisfied with the braking performance, I believe you are in pretty good shape. Having the controller set to 8 or 9 might not necessarily indicate a problem. Typically, you would want to adjust the output of the controller so that the trailer and tow vehicle brake at the same rate, and neither the tow vehicle nor the trailer braking system are doing all the work. If having...

When you tighten the castle nut to hold the hub/rotor on you will tighten it with the appropriate wrench until it is tight then back if off to the nearest slot to put the cotter pin or tang on the washer in. Ceramic pads will run cooler and generally can last longer and is a good upgrade from traditional brake pad material. You also may way...
