Features to know about

Upgrade to Reliable Stopping Power: 8" Disc Brakes with 3,500-lb Axle Rating

If your old drum setup is fading or dragging, these Kodiak 8" Dacromet-coated disc brakes are a serious step up. With a 3,500-lb axle capacity and a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern, they deliver smooth, consistent braking and shorter stopping distances. The large stainless steel piston and ceramic brake pads give quick, responsive performance that feels steady even at higher speeds.

Built for Salt, Snow, and Water: Dacromet Coating Protects Against Corrosion

Boat owners and anyone towing in wet or coastal conditions will appreciate the Dacromet finish. It resists rust and corrosion with a 300- to 400-hour salt spray rating—comparable to galvanized steel. Whether you tow through slush, rain, or saltwater, this coating keeps the hub-and-rotor assemblies, calipers, and brackets protected for long-term reliability.

Runs Cooler and Lasts Longer: One-Piece Vented Hub-and-Rotor Design

Heat buildup can cause brake fade and uneven wear. This one-piece hub-and-rotor assembly eliminates gaps where water or debris could collect and uses a vented design to dissipate heat quickly. That means more consistent braking on long hauls and less pad wear over time.

Simplifies Maintenance and Installation: Complete Kit for One Axle

Kodiak makes it easy to upgrade from drums with everything needed for one axle—two Dacromet hub-and-rotor assemblies with inner (L68149) and outer (L44649) bearings, races, grease seals, E-Z Lube caps, wheel bolts, and lug nuts. With fewer moving parts than drum brakes, these disc brakes require minimal upkeep and make pad replacement fast when it’s finally needed.

Engineered for Smooth, Controlled Braking: Automotive-Grade Components

Each component is built for dependable performance using high-quality iron castings and stainless hardware. The caliper mounting bracket’s side-support design carries the load instead of the bolts, reducing stress on key parts. Paired with a hydraulic actuator rated at 1,500 psi or higher (sold separately), this kit delivers reliable braking that keeps your trailer stable and predictable mile after mile.

One caliper failed (broke from flange) after 2000 miles. Had to reach out to Dexter for prompt warranty replacement. etrailer was very helpful in getting me in touch with the manufacturer.
by:
Got them installed but haven't had the time to try them.
by:
Quality is absolutely terrible. The Castings look like rejects. There is massive pitting of the metal. There are sharp edges where the part was cut from the casting trees. The caliper mount bracket is a casting that makes the caliper sit much further inboard than most of the other style brackets. When I tried to mount the caliper to the bracket, after the bracket was bolted to the axle flange. The Rotor inside of the rotor dragged on the caliper bracket. I had to grind away some of the metal of the bracket so that the hub/rotor would rotate freely. Where the rotor is bolted to the adapter, None of the bolts are recessed or set in the preformed holes as they should be. This is obviously very poor China or elsewhere manufacturing. Kodiak(DEXTER) should be ashamed of themselves for selling this junk.
by:
My parts seem to be old inventory that have been moved around in the warehouse for a while. Parts came loosely packaged in a kodiak factory box. Hub/rotor and brackets banging into each other causing scratches on surfaces. The races and bolts that hold the hub/rotor have a bit of surface rust. It's nothing to affect the performance of the parts but it is what it is. A little scotch brite and good as new.

Seams to be quality product.Does NOT come with mounting bolts for the caliper bracket mounts so make sure you have 8 -7/16 nuts and bolts on hand if you are switching from factory brake setup.
by:
Fantastic love it. Worth every cent I paid for it. All big trailer should come with discus brakes standard . Stopping power is like night and day there a big difference.
by:
Kodiak stainless steel disc trailer brakes are phenomenal! Super durable especially in saltwater environments. They last for years
by:
Perfect fit and much easier to work on, compared to the original Dexter brake assemblies.

No regrets and loving the product design.

Dexter works well but sadly these come with china bearing. I order Timken instead. Wish you could get the best with the best in one package. Probably should be an option. Maybe it is and I missed it.

Nothing new which is good news, although I will replace the bearings sometime this winter with Timken. This is the stock brake for Morryde IIS and it work well enough. The China bearing are what it comes with, but in an effort to not have to worrywonder, Timken is my choice. Not sure about some of the complaints but other than cardboard not holding up to heavy metal mine were new and good. I believe sometimes returns and part get put in a box a second time and that screws everyone up. Not being an upgrade, I am not sure there is another choice even if I wanted it.

Good Product, Great service.
by:
Kodiak disc brake kits look very nicely made and work well with no issues.
by:
Delivered on time. I did not give it a 5 because the boxes were pretty torn up upon arrival. Other than that everything went well.
by:
These rotors and calipers are very impressive, they look better than I expected. Can’t wait to install them.

I decided to go with the Kodiak set up and we couldn’t be happier with the service with them. I feel that the trailer stops around 40 better.

by:
I bought the brake kit to repair the Kodiak brake kit that I installed over 10 years ago. I am very pleased with the kit. I lost a caliper and it damaged the rotor. I had a service teck grease my wheel bearings and I suspect he did not use lock tight on the caliper pins and did not thoroughly tighten the pins on one side. Shipping is an issue. The box is very heavy and was badly damaged during shipping. I was sent the wrong kit and received a correct kit a week later. Both shipping boxes were destroyed. Cannibalized one box to fix the other box (lots of packing tape) to return the initial kit.

  • Replacement Disc Brakes and Actuator for Magnum Boat Trailer
Hey Michael! It sounds like that is a UFP H-1377 which would be a 3,500 lb hub using the standard bearing combination. I'm guessing you have slip on rotors based on that information. If you want to use the existing hubs the DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit # DE42FR is the best option. If you want to go ahead and replace everything I recommend the Kodiak Disc Brakes # KOD87FR which cost a little bit more. Disc brakes are always on the higher end, these are the most budget friendly available. I don't...

  • Looking for Replacement Trailer Disc Brake Components for Boat Trailer
Hey Jonathan, I am sure we have a solution that will work great but I would need to know the axle capacity of your trailer so that we can pick out the correct replacement parts. Based on what you mentioned I would say it's pretty likely you have a 3,500 lb axle and the part # KOD87FR that you referenced would be correct but I would need you to verify that for me to be sure. Are you in saltwater?

  • Does Kodiak Disc Brake Kit Come in a 4-Bolt Hub Pattern?
Hey Dick, thanks for reaching out! Disc brakes, like the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # KOD87FR only come in 4 on 4-1/2" bolt patterns and up, so if the bearings and grease seal of this kit will fit with your trailer, then you'll need to upgrade your trailer wheel to a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern as well. Do you have a 3,500 lb axle for your trailer?

  • Parts Needed to Add Hydraulic Disc Brakes to Pontoon Boat Trailer
Hi Adam; the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX89FR you were looking at is a great option to pair with the # KOD87FR. This fits a 3" wide trailer tongue so you will need to make sure that is what you have. This will also require adding a 5-way to the trailer and your vehicle to use the electric lockout. On the vehicle side you can use the Curt Trailer Connector Adapter - 4-Way Flat to 5-Way Flat # C57187. If you already have a 7-way on your vehicle then you could...

  • Do Kodiak Disc Brake Kits Change Location of Wheel on Trailer Axle
Hey Jeremey, this is a great question but the Kodiak disc brake kits like the part # KOD87FR are designed to keep the wheel placement the exact same so that you wouldn't have to worry about frame or fender clearance issues. This would not rub on your torsion axle at all.

  • Need To Replace Tie Doen Disc Brake Actuator And Calipers
Hey Kenny, thanks for getting in touch. Our best option for replacing your tie down model 125 is the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator part # T4750800. The Titan coupler is rated for 12,500 lbs just like the Tie Down and it uses a 2-5/16" hitch ball. It is also rated for use on disc brakes. If the current actuator has a lockout feature and you want to add that to the new one just use part # T4750820. As far as the calipers, it is hard to confirm fitment without knowing exactly what model...

  • Are there 4 Bolt Lug Pattern Disc Brake Kits?
Sorry Dick, there are no disc brake kits available with a 4-bolt pattern. If you could get me the part numbers off of your hubs bearings I can find you a 5 lug pattern set but you will need to replace your wheels. What kind of trailer do you have and what type of hub set up are you currently running?

  • Can Kodiak Caliper Fit with Tie Down Engineering Disc Brakes
Calipers, like the 3.5K Kodiak Disc Brake Caliper # KDBC225DAC, are really only designed to work with same-branded systems so I can't recommend using this for your Tie Down Engineering system. If you need to only replace the calipers then you'll want to get Tie Down Engineering calipers, otherwise you can switch to a whole Kodiak setup with the Kodiak Disc Brakes # KOD87FR which has all of the parts designed to fit together.

  • Replacement Disc Brake Kit for 2014 EZ Loader Boat Trailer
Thank you for providing that information. That is an EZ Loader custom trailer that uses # L68149 inner and # L44649 outer bearings. If you're looking for a hub/rotor assembly you can use the # KOD87FR as a replacement. If you already have an idler hub and need an over-the hub rotor you can use the # K2R35D for a replacement. It looks like you're using oil now, but you can replace that with grease # L11390. If you want to stick with an oil bath setup we also have the # KOD77FR available...

  • Is There a Brake System For a 3,500LB Axle Which Will Allow For 10 Wheels?
You would have to convert to Disc Brakes # KOD87FR to fit a 10" wheel on your 3,500lb axle. This hub uses the common 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. These are Dacromet coated which is almost as good as a galvanized coating but is definitely better than just paint. Depending on our snowmobile trailer you would need either a surge style disc brake Actuator # T47457007K or a electric over hydraulic Actuator # CAR-HBA16-2.

  • Can 3.5K Kodiak Disc Brakes Be Used with Dexter A-60 Brake Actuator
As long as your actuator is rated for 1,600 psi you'll be able to use 2 sets of the Kodiak Disc Brakes # KOD87FR, yes. You should be able to confirm this by checking for the rating on your actuator itself. It will either be stamped into it or there will be a sticker showing the rating. If your trailer is currently equipped with disc brakes then it will be rated for these disc brakes, but if you have drum brakes I'll need some photos of your actuator so we can get you a replacement that...
