If you're replacing a busted or rusted-out spring on your trailer - or if you've decided to upgrade to dacromet to avoid rusted-out springs down the line - the first thing you'll need to do is measure your existing leaf springs. Take a look at the measurements above. If these dimensions - and the weight rating - match what you currently have, you should be good to go.

Remember, though, your leaf springs can flatten a bit over time. And if you're measuring your spring while your trailer is fully loaded, the overall length that you get might be a bit more than what you need a brand new, unloaded spring to measure.

Rustproof Your Trailer Suspension with Dacromet

Double-Eye Diagram Dacromet

As you travel across highways and backroads, your trailer's leaf springs are going to corrode and flake over time. This is especially true if you have a boat trailer that's regularly submerged in water. Completely rusted-out springs on trailers are all too common, and these dacromet springs are a great solution to that problem.

Dacromet Versus Rusty Springs Comparison

Longer-lasting springs will save you money and are great for any trailer, but they are a must have for folks who live or play by the water. If you live on the coast, you're probably always rinsing the saltwater off of your trailer to try and keep rust at bay. If you're really worried, you might've even tried to repaint your springs or spray them down with rust inhibitors. But upgrading to these dacromet-coated leaf springs could cut down on or eliminate all of that maintenance, leaving you more time to spend out on the water.

Rust-resistant coatings are graded according to a salt spray rating. Basically, this rating shows the amount of time it takes for a material to show signs of corrosion when exposed to pure, continuous salt spray. We conducted our own salt spray test and found that this dacromet coating lasts up to 744 hours before it begins to deteriorate. Compare that to some other dacromet coatings out there that are rated at just 300 hours - or zinc coatings that don't last for even that long - and you can be sure these springs will last.

Double-Eye Leaf Spring Basics

Leaf springs, as you probably know, make up an important part of your trailer's suspension. Their main purpose is to absorb road shock as you travel, as well as allow your axle(s) to move independently of the rest of the trailer.

Double-Eye Spring Parts

To mount this leaf spring, you'll need hangers welded onto your trailer frame - which you probably already have in place - as well as shackle straps and a suspension bolt. It's a good idea to replace your existing straps and bolt while you're under there working on things because they tend to wear out quickly. One thing that could help keep them from wearing out too fast would be upgrading to galvanized or zinc-plated hardware. Doing so will boost the corrosion resistance and, therefore, the longevity of your trailer.

We also always recommend replacing both of your springs at the same time because it's not unusual for leaf springs to sag and elongate over time. If you replace just the one, there's a good chance that it won't match your existing spring on the opposite side of your trailer, and that can mess up your alignment.

See what our Experts say about this etrailer Trailer Leaf Springs

  • What Weight Capacity Leaf Springs Should Be Used On a Aluminum Snowmobile Trailer With 1,000LBS?
You will most likely need to use a 1,000LB spring like either the Double-Eye Spring 26" # e77SR or 20-3/8" # e53SR. It is important to match the springs as close as possible to the weight of the trailer and the cargo without exceeding the weight rating for your trailer. While increasing axle weight capacity will not risk damage to the trailer you can damage the trailer by getting to light or to heavy of leaf springs. If you choose springs lighter than the trailer you will compress the springs...

  • Best Option For 20-1/2 Inch Double Eye Leaf Springs For Boat Trailer
We do have leaf springs that will work for you. Since leaf springs elongate over time you actually want ones that are a bit shorter than what you have now, and for your boat trailer we have dacromet leaf springs that measure 20-3/8 inches, which is perfect for your application: - 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 2,000-lb Trailer Axles - 20-3/8" Long - Dacromet # e53SR The # e53SR has a dacromet finish with a 700 hour salt spray rating which is precisely what you are looking for. These springs...

  • How to Determine Correct Replacement Axle For Boat Trailer
There are individual parts you can use for your boat trailer but no type of suspension rebuild kit, no. Starting with the axle, to choose the correct replacement axle for your trailer you will need to know the dimensions of your current axle's hub face to hub face and spring center to spring center; I have added a link below to a video which walks you through how to measure. The other thing you need to know is the weight capacity of the axle you need, which should match or exceed the GVWR...

  • Availability of Trailer Leaf Spring With 20-1/2 Eye to Eye Dimension
If the trailer has a 2000 lb capacity axle, and the eye to eye distance was measured when the trailer was jacked up so that the axle hung freely, the # e53SR or # e84SR would meet the criteria you mentioned.

  • Recommended Replacement 3-Leaf Double-Eye Leaf Spring For 5x8 Trailer With 2000lb Axle
I'm sorry to hear your trailer spring broke! The shortest spring we offer is the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 2,000-lb Trailer Axles # e53SR or # e84SR which is 20-3/8" Long from the center of the eye to center of the eye. I recommend measuring the spring on the other side of the trailer that isn't broke with the trailer jacked up to keep weight off the spring. When spring is holding weight it will be longer which will cause an incorrect measurement.

  • Need To Replace Axle, Wheels And Leaf Springs On Small Boat Trailer
Hello Nick. I do appreciate you reaching out and providing all of that detailed info, but I am sorry to say that we do not carry a replacement for your axle. Our closest leaf spring axle has a 60" hub face like part # e48GR. The spring centers on this axle are pre-welded at 45". The tires and wheels on the other hand are definitely something we can help with. For a 4.80/4.00-8 tire on a 5 on 4-1/2" wheel I recommend the Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" Galvanized Wheel - 5...

  • Recommended 20 Long Double Eye Leaf Springs For 2011 Starcraft Trailer With 2300lb GVWR
We have an option that will work as a replacement for you, but it will be slightly lower rated. The 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 2,000-lb Trailer Axles - 20-3/8" Long # e53SR or # e84SR will work on your trailer as it measures 20-3/8" from center to center of the spring eyes, and its 2000lb capacity will still work. More than likely your trailer has a 2000lb axle, and the reason it can be rated slightly over 2000lbs is the tongue weight of the trailer is supported by your tow vehicle...

  • Are There 20" Long Leaf Springs Available With A Dacromet Finish
Hey Robert, It looks like the closest option we offer to 20" would be the etrailer Rust-Resistant 3-Leaf Double Eye Spring for 2K Trailer Axles - 20-3/8" Long - Dacromet # e53SR that you were already looking at. A 3/8" difference shouldn't cause an issue but I would like to know the axle capacity and whether the trailer was lifted by the frame or if the suspension was bearing weight while you measured for the leaf springs to confirm fitment.

  • Recommended Replacement Spring for a 2021 Coachmen Freedom Express Travel Trailer
Yeah, I agree if you are sagging on one side you've got a spring issue. We do not have any springs that would be a step up from the Dexter 072-013-00 you currently have installed. That spring is 20-1/2" long and rated for 1,400 lbs per spring. Our closet option is the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 2,000-lb Trailer Axles item # e84SR but they are only rated for a 1,000 lbs per spring. That won't help the problem. To add longer, resulting in higher capacity, leaf springs you would need to...

  • Parts Needed For Attaching 2nd Axle On a Boat Trailer With Tandem Axle Hangers and Only One Axle
You will need to add a second axle with double eyes springs to your trailer. There is no way to attach slipper spring on one axle with a double eye on the 2nd axle. As for parts you can use a kit like the Dexter Heavy-Duty Suspension Kit # K71-359-00 to attach on your existing hangers. You will most likely need springs like the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e53SR which is 20-3/8" long from center eye to center eye. This would be the correct size if you measured 24" from center of mounting...
