When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Because this model does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without triggering your trailer's brakes.

Great quality and direct replacement for my faulty unit. Replaced it in about 15 minutes. Haven't put fluid in or bled it yet because I'm waiting on some drum cylinders to arrive from etrailer. 681907

I had wanted a lever lock style brake actuator for my boat trailer for years. I had to get serious when a repair shop bent the heck out of the latch on the turn wheel style actuator on my trailer. A quick search on the internet led me to etrailer.com. They have an excellent website with clear and easy to understand descriptions along with pictures and videos. I had planned to order the repair kit (which etrailers has), but decided why not replace the turn style wheel with the lever lock. I ordered it and it was shipped right away. It arrived as promised on time. It was an easy swap out on my trailer and now I have the lock style I prefer. I will use etrailer.com again in the future. 578058

easy to install. has worked fine all summer long on my 4Winns double axle boat trailer. I haven't had a slow release or brake lockup since. Thank you for the prompt delivery to allow me to use my boat. PS - The ez ball release and lock mechanism is nice and the connected pin lock is a nice feature for those of us that lose pins. 290496

Awesome strong product with easy installation. I bolted it on then blocked the tires on my trailer and moved my truck on the hitch compressing the master cylinder and bled the master while making sure the Dot 3 brake fluid was above inlet in reservoir. Then I hooked the brake line up making sure it had the fluid still in it by keeping it elevated so it wouldn't run out when I removed it. I didn't bleed the brakes and they worked great and I was done. etrailer had fast shipping and gave me a substantial partial refund because the price was lowered before I received it so they credited me the lower price saving me 25.00 buckaroos! Thanks etrailer. 720493

Ask the Experts about this Titan Brake Actuator

  • Replacement for Atwood Surge Brake Actuator 82541
It sounds like you have free backing braking assemblies on your trailer so a lockout at the trailer coupler is not needed. In order to replace the Atwood Surge Brake Actuator 82541, I recommend using the Titan Leverlock Brake Actuator part # T43329007K although the Brake Actuator with Manual Lockout part # T4500600 would work as well. The Leverlock is more cost effective and has an easier to use latching mechanism in my opinion. The mounting bolt holes on the Leverlock are 3" apart...

  • How to Bleed the Brakes on a 1988 Correct Craft Trailer
Yes, if the bolt holes on your trailer measure 3" apart on center then the Titan Leverlock Brake Actuator part # T43329007K should work for you without having to drill any new holes. The bleeding process for the brakes is not hard but it will take a bit of time. The Powerbuilt Brake Bleeder part # ALL648591 is not required but will make life easier. I have attached the instructions for you below in addition to a video. Remove the master cylinder cap and fill the reservoir to three quarters...

  • Adding Electric Lockout and 5-Way to Trailer with Titan Model 60 Actuator
To add an electric lockout to your Titan Model 60 actuator only requires the part # T4748800 and then if you wanted to add a shroud to protect the lock out you'd also need the part # T4835800183. To activate the electric lock out you need a reverse light circuit carried to it. Typically a 5-way is needed for this to carry the extra circuit. For a 5-way you'd then want the part # W002290 which you can replace your 4-way with. For a 7-way to a 5-way adapter then you'd want the part #...

You can then use the Tow Ready 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter # 20036 to connect your reverse light function to send signal to your trailer side 5-way when you shift your vehicle into reverse. • Replacement Surge Brake Actuator Recommendation for 1997 Eagle Spirit Boat Trailer
Thanks for the picture of your trailer. From that I can tell that the replacement actuator you need is the Titan Model 60 part # T43329007K which will be an exact replacement so it will be an easy install. Three inch diameter axles are typically 5,200 lb but the highest rated hub/drum we have with a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern like you have is 3,500 like the part # 84546UC3-EZ. If your drum measures 10 inch in diameter then this is the correct replacement most likely but it would still...

  • Titan 7000 lb Hydraulic Actuator Versus Atwood Model
Your assumption about the Titan versus the Atwood coupler is correct. When the tow vehicle comes to a stop, the front of the coupler portion will swivel downward which compresses the actuator.
