When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Because this model does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without triggering your trailer's brakes.

Awesome strong product with easy installation. I bolted it on then blocked the tires on my trailer and moved my truck on the hitch compressing the master cylinder and bled the master while making sure the Dot 3 brake fluid was above inlet in reservoir. Then I hooked the brake line up making sure it had the fluid still in it by keeping it elevated so it wouldn't run out when I removed it.
I didn't bleed the brakes and they worked great and I was done. etrailer had fast shipping and gave me a substantial partial refund because the price was lowered before I received it so they credited me the lower price saving me 25.00 buckaroos! Thanks etrailer.

easy to install. has worked fine all summer long on my 4Winns double axle boat trailer. I haven't had a slow release or brake lockup since. Thank you for the prompt delivery to allow me to use my boat. PS - The ez ball release and lock mechanism is nice and the connected pin lock is a nice feature for those of us that lose pins.

I had wanted a lever lock style brake actuator for my boat trailer for years. I had to get serious when a repair shop bent the heck out of the latch on the turn wheel style actuator on my trailer. A quick search on the internet led me to etrailer.com. They have an excellent website with clear and easy to understand descriptions along with pictures and videos. I had planned to order the repair kit (which etrailers has), but decided why not replace the turn style wheel with the lever lock. I ordered it and it was shipped right away. It arrived as promised on time. It was an easy swap out on my trailer and now I have the lock style I prefer. I will use etrailer.com again in the future.

It was easy to install. The brakes work great now and especially like the lock pin for the ball latch. The one negative is the fluid reservoir rusted almost immediately and I can't understand why they wouldn't make it more rust resistant.

free and quick, brought it right to my door all shiny and new. So far it seems to work as advertised.

The not-so-good: Hardware not included, which is not a big deal but it would have been helpful to know in advance. I would have also bought the hardware if it had been offered as well. No installation or operating instructions, also not a serious issue but I like to have manufacturer's recommendations for reference to be sure it's all good.

Basically an exact replacement for the 60 brake actuator on my Escort trailer. Came quickly and in perfect shape except for the plastic master cylinder cap which was cross threaded when I received it. The original cap on the 60 was metal and fits.

The final piece I needed to “pack the wheel bearings.” Amazing how a simple job gets complicated when everything was corroded. I ended up replacing everything from the actuator to the drums, backing plates and lines. Etrailer provided everything I needed.

It is the newer Model 60-style drum-brake actuator, fits a 3" wide trailer tongue and 2" hitch ball, and uses the same three mounting holes spaced 3" on center. How to Bleed Air from the Titan T43397007K Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator
Hey Tony, welcome back! The Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator item # T43329007K you purchased has a plunger you can access for purposes of bleeding the system of air. You will want to remove the plate that surrounds the breakaway lever to access it. You'll need to fill the reservoir three quarter full with DOT-3 brake fluid then manually push the lever to pressurize the system. This will force fluid to run through the lines. Do I Need a Reverse Lockout on my Surge Coupler
You've made a good choice going with that actuator, it is very dependable. You will want to use the Brake Actuator # T43397007K which is designed for use with drum brakes like you trailer has rather than the disc brakes the other is designed for. Drum brakes don't require the same pressure to operate as disc so you want the right one for optimized performance. Does Titan Actuator part # T43329007K Have Manual Lock Out
Hey Breck, the Titan Zinc-Plated, Leverlock Brake Actuator # T43329007K that you referenced does not have a manual lock out feature at all. Normally if you were using this actuator you would install free-backing brake assemblies on the axles to prevent the wheels from locking up when backing up. If you let me know what your trailer's axle capacity is I can determine what free-backing plates you'd need.

Should Titan Model 60 Actuator be Replaced if Theres Left to Right Play on Inner Section
If you are getting a lot of left and right play in your Titan Model 60 actuator that would indicate it's internally damaged or it has a very high amount of wear and either way needs to be replaced. For an exact replacement we have the part # 099-175-20 which is for disc brakes or the # T43329007K for a drum application.

Yes, the Brake Actuator part # T43397007K will be sufficient to power two sets of the Titan Hydraulic Brake Kit part # T4423500-400. The combined weight capacity of the braking assemblies can exceed that of the coupler.
