My trailer came with a different brand solenoid that kept failing year after year once my trailer reached about 5 yrs in age. This other solenoid did not have a wired ground so the failure was most likely due to corrosion. The wired ground on the Demco allows you to get a good ground on the exterior of the trailer. The Demco solenoid worked the first time I tried it this spring after sitting outside over the winter. 509977

Easy to mount. Strange it doesn't come with a shield like the other two kits do. Will have to make one to protect the solenoid. 338026

A lot of communication during this sale. Vendor sent me detailed messages throughout the shipping process from manufacturer to distributor to him. I never had to ask, "where is my stuff?" Good pricing too. So I've bookmarked their site as a one of my trailer parts go-to places for future needs. Good people. 230204

  • Can Lock Out Solenoid Be Added to Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator
  • I spoke with my contact at Demco regarding the Hydraulic Brake Actuator # DM8759122 referenced in your question. He stated that the Demco Solenoid Kit # DM5404 can indeed be used with this actuator so the trailer brakes do not activate when shifting into reverse This has a gross towing weight capacity of 8,000 pounds and will mount to straight, 3 inch wide trailer tongues. I have attached a short video demonstration on this product for you to check out.

  • Troubleshooting Titian Actuator with Electric Lockout Not Working When Backing up Driveway
  • If your electric lockout solenoid on your Titan actuator isn't engaging when you are backing up your driveway then either the wiring is broken so it isn't receiving the signal or the solenoid has gone bad and it needs replacing. Check the wiring and if it looks good then the solenoid itself it likely the culprit and you would need part # T4748800 for Titan Model 6, Model 60, Aero 7500, and newer Model 10 and Model 20 actuators. If you have a 2000 or older Model 10 actuator, the adapter...

  • Zinc-Plated 8K Demco Channel Trailer Coupler for Disc Brakes with Electric Reverse Lockout

  • How Many Threaded Ports on Demco Solenoid Kit DM5404
  • Demco Solenoid Kit for Brake Actuators with Reverse Lockouts # DM5404 has a total of 3 threaded ports. One from the master cylinder to the solenoid, one from the side of the solenoid back to the master cylinder, and one at the back of the solenoid for the brake line.

  • Comparing Bypass and Non-Bypass Electric Reverse Lockout Solenoids for Surge Couplers
  • Demco Solenoid Kit (Bypass) # DM5404, when energized, will only allow the brake fluid to flow back into the master cylinder. A non-bypass, when energized, will just prevent the fluid from flowing anywhere. The type used depends on the master cylinder type on the actuator. To use a bypass type the master cylinder has to have a return port for the fluid to flow back into. A master cylinder without this feature would use a non-bypass. Both thread into the back of the master cylinder...

  • Will Reverse Lockout Solenoid Work When Reversing Truck Uphill
  • When using a product such as the Solenoid Valve for Titan Brake Actuators with Reverse Lockouts # T4748800 or Demco Solenoid Kit for Brake Actuators with Reverse Lockouts # DM5404 the trailer brakes do not activate when you shift your tow vehicle into reverse, therefore allowing you to back up a hill or curbs. Even with this solenoid, we recommend reversing up the hill slowly and carefully. We recommend using a solenoid shield, like part # T4836100183, to provide protection to the...

  • Will Demco Reverse Lockout Solenoid Fit a UFP Actuator
  • You could get the Demco lockout solenoid # DM5404 to fit the UFP coupler. But as far as whether or not it is the right type of solenoid is what you need to look at. This one is designed to route brake fluid back into the master cylinder via a second port in the master cylinder. If that is what your UFP has then you could use this solenoid just keep in mind that it has not been tested with other brands. If your actuator does not use the bypass type of solenoid then you would use one like...

  • Surge Trailer Brakes Lock Up when Backing Up on Trailer with Electric Reverse Lockout
  • If your 2006 Toyota 4Runner has a 7-Way then the center pin on it should be the reverse light circuit. To test it you will need one other person, a circuit tester such as # 40376, and the vehicle wheels will need to be chocked. Basically you will have the other person sit in the vehicle, start it up, apply the emergency brake, keep their foot on the brake, and put the vehicle in reverse while the wheels are chocked (safety first). Then you can use the circuit tester to test that center...

  • How to Determine the Correct Replacement Brake Assembly Size for a 6,000-lb Axle
  • You can determine what the correct replacement brake assembly is by measuring the diameter of the brake assembly. This is measured from one brake pad directly across to the other brake pad. This is demonstrated at the 2:05 mark of the attached review video for our Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-7-SA that should be what you are needing for your application. This kit measures 12" x 2" and is compatible with 5.2K to 7K axles. This kit also comes with both the right and left hand assemblies. If...

  • Troubleshooting Surge Brake Trailer that Locks Up Brakes in Reverse But Solenoid Clicks
  • It is very possible the solenoid is defective. Since you hear it click when put in reverse we know it's getting voltage like it needs. You first might try improving the ground of the solenoid though. It's possible it's just not grounding properly to allow it to fully operate. If you have a Titan actuator you would want part # T4748800, or a Demco part # DM5404 for a replacement if you determine you the ground is good. If you have a different brand let me know.

  • Will Reverse Electric Lockout Work with a 7- to 5-Way Adapter on a 2012 Honda Pilot
  • It sounds like the trailer has a manual reverse lockout feature. This means that you would have to physically go back to the coupler and move a lever or insert a pin to prevent the brakes from engaging when going in reverse. The other type is an electric reverse lockout. This works using a solenoid, such as # T4748800 or # DM5404, attached at the back of the master cylinder on the coupler. It will have a ground wire and a power wire. The power wire is connected to the reverse circuit...

  • How to Tell if UFP A-160 Actuator Has Manual Lockout
  • I am not quite sure what you have on your UFP A-160 actuator but if you check out the attached picture the only way you can manually lock out an actuator is if it has a manual lockout built-in. Technically you can drill a hole in the side of it and place a bolt there to keep the actuator action from happening but this weakens the wall of the actuator and should only be used as a last resort. You may be able to use a solenoid valve like part # DM5404 but this would still meant that you...
