Recommended 2-5/16" Hydraulic Brake Actuator for 3" Wide Trailer Tongues

Published 10/24/2026

Question:

Even though my trailer weight doesn't demand it, is there a version that can accommodate 2-5/16" ball? My other trailers are all on this, and it just makes things quicker. Thank you.

There sure is Tom and welcome back. The Demco item # DM8102511 for drum brakes or item # DM8104311 for disc brakes are the 2-5/16" hitch ball hydraulic brake actuator's that are closest in style to the 2" Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator item # DM72VR you were looking at.

Both of these actuators are designed to bolt to the top of a 3" wide trailer tongues and have a pretty big 12,500 lbs capacity. They have the eZ-Latch coupler and are zinc plated to prevent corrosion.

The Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator item # DM8102511 is designed specifically for drum brakes. It includes a manual reverse lockout but an electric one can be added using the Demco item # DM5837.

The Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator item # DM8104311 is designed to be used with disc brakes. It has a higher PSI to ensure they're operating correctly. This actuator does include an electric lockout.

What kind of trailer do you have and does it have drum or disc brakes? Feel free to answer this and throw in any other questions you have, where it says Add Comment.

Hi Jerred. It's a McClain tandem axle, aluminum boat trailer rated for 14,000lbs. It's disc brakes on the rear axle only. It currently has the old Fulton A60. Thank you.

@TomB That's a nice trailer! When you said you didn't need the higher capacity I was expecting something significantly smaller. The Demco Surge Brake Actuator item # DM8164311 would definitely support it. It's got a 16k capacity, works with disc brakes, has a electric lockout, and also fits a 3" wide trailer tongue.
