Set up a clean, single entry point for your motorhome with a 1 step design that keeps climbs short and simple. Pick electric or manual to match how you camp, and check your entry height so the step doesn't sit too low when retracted. Measure your mounting width and needed drop to confirm a proper fit and a comfortable rise.
A folding, adjustable platform can make a big difference. It provides a sturdy, non-slip transition when the first step is high or the site is unlevel, and it stays stable even on gravel when the legs are spread properly. Just note a heavy-duty platform adds some weight.
Match the step to your entry height so it tucks up cleanly and gives a comfortable rise. Measure from the threshold to the ground on level pavement, then compare to the step's drop from the first tread. If your current step almost touches the ground and the gap to the unit feels large, pick a different rise. On uneven sites, add a transition platform to smooth things out.
Measure the width of the step or mounting bracket and the drop you need from the doorway. Removal can be the hardest part—old hardware can spin or break—so have replacement mounting bolts ready. Once the old step is off, it's typically a simple unbolt and reinstall if the new step matches your bracket and drop.
That points to loose wiring between the door switch and the control module. Check the connections and harness for a spot that comes and goes with bumps. Also confirm the door switch itself isn't loose. Fixing the weak connection helps prevent the step from thinking the door is opening and closing.
