Automatic Operation

These motorized RV steps provide an effortless, convenient way to enter and exit your RV. The steps wire to your RV's door and feature an automatic extension, unfolding when the door opens and retracting when it closes. This differentiates the steps from the alternate manual pull-out steps.

The included switch kit consists of 2 sensor pieces, which mount on the door and doorframe. When the sensor pieces come into contact with each other, the steps are pushed in or pulled out.

Safety Features

The Tread Lite steps include several safety features in an effort to prevent injury to you or your passengers and damage to the RV steps. If an obstruction is detected while extending, the steps will halt and retract back into the stowed position. The steps will also retract when you turn on the vehicle's ignition, even if the automatic retraction override has been activated, in case you forget to stow them before driving away.

Will Tread Lite Electric Steps Work for You?

Electric steps are typically installed on RVs and some travel trailers. The Tread Lite electric steps install and fold up underneath the camper for simple storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.

Tread Lite Mounting

The Tread Lite electric steps attach to the underside of the camper chassis, directly beneath the doorway. To decide which size you'll need, locate the space available underneath your camper that lines up with the door frame, and measure the width and depth. You will need a mounting space that is at least 25-5/8" wide and 18" deep.

If it turns out you have more space beneath your doorway, there are larger step assemblies available with 32" wide brackets. A full list of the available steps is below.

RV Steps Outriggers

Outriggers - metal brackets that act as an extension (LC301704 - sold separately) - may be needed for installation depending on the model of your original stairs. These provide extra length if the old steps are longer or wider than the new.

Once you know where the mounting bracket will go and what size mounting bracket you need, that spot will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.

How Many Steps Do You Need?

Tread Lite Entry Height

To determine how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, plus 5" to 8" to account for the drop from the bottom step to the ground. This measurement will also tell you how many steps you need.

The chart below displays entry height measurements in the first column. If you determined you need a 25-5/8" mounting bracket, the step part numbers with that width are in the second column. If you determined you need a 32" mounting bracket width, the step part numbers with that width are in the third column. Choose the bracket size that is closest to your measurements without going over.

This page's step assembly is in bold text.

Entry Height 25-5/8" Mounting Bracket Width 32" Mounting Bracket Width
11-1/2" - 14-1/2" LC353542 LC353620
19-1/2" - 22-1/2" LC353543 LC353621

How Do You Install the Steps?

To install the steps:

  1. Hook up the steps to power to verify that all components are in working order
  2. Make sure the camper is level on flat ground
  3. Lift the steps into the mounting space and prop into place
  4. If needed, mark the mounting holes on the camper and drill

    -Set aside steps before drilling

  5. If needed, install the outriggers
  6. Align step mounting holes and secure in place with carriage bots and flange lock nuts

-Make sure bracket is backed up fully against the I-beam on the chassis

    -Hardware not included

  7. Tighten hardware until snug
  8. Make sure assembly is sitting square and level
  9. Torque the hardware tight
  10. Connect the appropriate writing to your vehicle's source

Met all expectations and installation was seemless.

by:

This unit was easy to install and also the wiring harness that came with the unit was in compliance with the stock connectors. I would recommend this product to anyone replacing an old unit or looking for one that can handle more weight. I installed it on my Monaco Windsor 40PDQ with no issues thanks Jeff.

by:

This step is so much better than the stock step in our RV. It’s lighter, thinner, and the motor is on top and not on the bottom exposed to the elements.

by:

I bought a set of automated steps for my motorhome the salesperson was very helpful and the steps fit my motorhome. Still working great today.

by:

Order arrived promptly. Step probably should have been shipped in a more substantial carton, rear end of step was partially protruding upon delivery. Nothing appears missing or damaged at this time.

by:

Really nice construction and it was straight forward to install.

by:

This is a VERY good quality product. It has worked flawlessly !

by:

Great prices, fast shipping.

Steps are great when they work. Every once in awhile they get stuck

by:

Perfect fit for my Coachmen. Arrived in a timely fashion.

by:

the stairs were fine but the design of the steps was not the best for installation extremely difficult to reach the bolts to secure them

by:

Love the product. It was not welded in a jig properly - out of square! I had to take apart and twist the steel frame straight. Lucky for me I am a former machinist and building contractor. Now it glides in and out smoothly. Over all it is quality material, just needs a little more care at the manufacturing level. I will still purchase from "etrailer".

by:

Received steps today. I have a 2008 KZ Escalade and already had removed the steps. They fit right up after I removed the top strap. The strap is replaced by the outriggers for support. I used a floor jack and piece of plywood under the steps to get them into position. Drilled new holes because the step bracket would not allow the steps to go up enough to meet the bracket holes, not a big deal. I spent about an hour and a half installing. I am very pleased with the quality and extremely satisfied with the Staff at Etrailer. I will continue to purchase from Etrailer because they make it right if there is any problem. Thanks Etrailer.

by:

My wife and i saw these steps on several trailers at an rv show. Talk about night and day. My trailer is a 2015 70k trailer and the steps that came with(2 )bounced and wobbled like most steps(my 5th trailer). Not these lippert lights. I HIGHLY recommend !

by:

These are the exact replacement for the steps that I damaged on my trailer. Kim was very helpful in helping me place the order and the delivery was quick - only 3 business days. I saved a fair amount by purchasing through etrailer.com as compared to the manufacturer and free shipping too. Can't beat them! This is my second order with them and my first order was also seamless.

by:

The product was processed and delivered on time! We installed within 1 1/2 hours start to finish. Very satisfied!!!

by:

Great customer service and technical su pport!

by:

Great replacement product - great service as always from etrailer.

by:

Good price and prompt shipping. This step replaced a six-year old broken and rusted step of the same make and model on my RV so installation was straightforward.

by:

Works great for our two ambulance side doors.

by:

Perfect fit. Much better that older model.

by:

Very satisfied.

  • What Causes RV Powered Steps to Jump When Retracting
When the teeth of the gear on the bottom of the steps start to wear out the steps will sometimes start to bounce and not fully retract. If you have a single or double step on your RV from Kwikee you'd want the part # LC301696.

  • Replacement RV Step With Covered Motor for Winter Travel
The Lippert Components Kwikee 28 Series # LC3747453 only has the step that retracts to cover the motor, linkage, and control module. Although this isn't a perfect seal, it will keep the large debris out but salt will find its way in. If you don't need the 7 inch drop, we do have the 5 inch drop # LC353620 or # LC353542 which have the motor covered. You can see the measurements for these on the product page to assist with compatibility.

  • Will Lippert Electric Tread Lite Step LC353542 Fit 2016 Winnebago Travato 59G
I checked the specs for the 2016 Travato 59G on the Winnebago website and these do indicate that a motorized step is standard equipment, but there is no detailed information provided such as the dimensions of the step itself or its mounting points (or what company produced it). Often if you contact the RV manufacturer with your VIN they can tell you about some of the components installed in it, or at least tell you the chassis mounting hole spacing. If you can measure the spacing of the...

  • Why Wont My Lippert Tread Lite Steps Stay Extended?
What it sounds like happened is the brake solenoid on your steps stopped working correctly. There is a manual lever on the motor that can get flipped off which will then allow your steps # LC353542 to not stay extended. I have attached a photo of the lever you're going to need to check showing both the "ON" and "OFF" position for you to see. If it is in the "ON" position then you just have a bad solenoid and will need to replace it. For the light, if after switching your solenoid out...

Well according to the wiring diagram for the Lippert Electric Tread Lite Step for RVs # LC353542 the green wire should've been routed to a chassis ground not to your battery so that may have something to do with it. Also, there is a chance the door switch is wired backwards. I spoke with Lippert and the part number you provided is actually the part number for a wiring harness for electric steps. We weren't able to figure out for which steps that harness goes to, however I can provide you with some information to help you choose the steps you need for your coach. What you're first going to need to do is take some measurements so you can choose some steps that fit your coach. You'll need to measure the mounting width and the mounting depth first. • Lippert Electric Tread Lite Step for RVs - Single - 5 /Rise - 24 Wide - Aluminum
These steps are usually installed in RV's that have a prepared mounting structure just under the door. You could potentially use the Lippert # LC353542 steps for your Rialta if you custom fabricated a mounting system to go under the vehicle body. It would have to be a thick and rigid support as the weight of a person stepping on the outside edge of the extended step would exert substantial leverage on the mounting system and vehicle body.
