Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Bought these to replace #5200lb house trailer hubs for a utility trailer. Great fit! Fast shipping.

by:

Excellent product. Have used them on 3 trailers. Every time I buy a used trailer, I completely rebuild the hubs, bearings and brakes.

I don’t trust other people to keep boat axels, up to my standards. We travel long distances with our boat trailers.

Never had a failure.

Thank You etrailer!

Great service, reasonably priced!

by:

I bought these hubs to replace the 30+ year old originals on the 6000 lb axle under my late fathers homemade 4x8 trailer. The original hubs couldn't have modern wheels mounted to them so doing this allowed me to mount modern 225/15r75 tires and wheels as well as have a spare. Install was quick and easy, the fit of every part was perfect. Service from etrailer was excellent, couldn't have been better.

by:

Excellent experience all the way around! Fast shipping. Simple installation. Great instructions and videos. Reasonable prices. The best part though is the customer service. I ended up speaking to William B a couple times and he guided me thought ordering exactly the right thing. He had me confirm various measurements on my trailer to ensure I had the correct parts. Actually he helped me discover that the parts I was removing were incorrect so if we had of replaced like for like I would have had problems. Getting this right up front made the installation and final quality what it should be. Thank you eTrailer and thank you William!

I searched for what seemed like forever to find a fix for my mobile home trailer axles. I bought a homemade trailer and was needing new tires, they were and odd size 14.5... and I needed new bearings too. The axles were 5200 lb axles. The wheels had a very bad wobble and I felt like I was going to spend a lot money to make a temporary fix. There was so much conflicting information on these axles and compatibility of replacement parts. I bought these hubs and hoped for the best. They fit perfectly! I'm very pleased. I ordered them last night and they arrived this afternoon! Overnight shipping?! Also the costumer service was amazing!! I asked so many questions and felt like i was talking to a friend i've known my whole life.

by:

Items came quickly once in stock. I asked for them separately but would have lost the free shipping...good looking out! Went from old Christmas tree farm trailer to camp hauler. The updated hubs and rims were the last piece. Great customer service!

by:

Perfect fit, good quality at reasonable choice. If I need future trailer items, eTrailer will be my go-to.

Received 2 dexter hubs and replaced my mobile home hubs with them in about an hour I used Toyota rims from a 1999 trunda fits great did use longer nuts becouse the rims had counter sunk holes

by:

Following a minor shipping hiccup, James at etrailer.com responded quickly and professionally to get my new hubs to me in a timely manner. Things may not always go as planned with shipments, but I know I can count on the crew at etrailer to make it right.
Thanks James and George!!

Great service, friendly staff!

by:

Shipping time was good. Perfect fit. Repaced mobile home hubs with these. Make sure you have the right size inner and outer bearings.

by:

Excellent technical support. Excellent order support - emailed and suggested an alternative when a part was not in stock. FAST delivery.

I had never used etrailer before but was VERY impressed and highly recommend! 5 stars all the way!!!

A great fit, and easy install. Got me out of a tight bind. We can get back on the road tomorrow. eTrailer always comes through for me.

by:

This seems to be a good quality hub. I haven't gotten the opportunity to install as circumstances have conspired against me so far but I'm sure it will work perfectly.

The real bright spot is that there was a minor problem with my order and Rebecca and George were very quick to respond. They got everything fixed with absolutely no hassle! The level of customer service has proven to me that the staff at etrailer.com are willing to do everything possible to find the right solution for the customer. I will definitely be shopping with etrailer.com again!!

These idler hubs are great! Very happy with them. I have used the trailer several times and there haven’t been any issues. Finally no more squeaking and squealing from bad bearings and hubs.

by:

Best thing I've ne for the trailer

by:

I bought these hub assemblies to replace the ones that came with the boat trailer. Since they were installed I live 50 miles south of Chicago. The trailer has been to Okeechobee Fl. 2 times, also Chetek Wisconsin 3 times. When traveling ,every time I stop for eats or fuel I feel the hubs. The hubs are always just a few degrees above ambient.
PS I also installed S.S. bearing buddy's, from E Trailer.

I have a utility trailer that I have
had for over 25 years. It had a mobile home axle on it with Dayton style hubs and 14.5. inch rims and tires. I wanted to change over to a more traditional hubs and wheels. The help from Sam G was great. I gave him the part number of outside and inside bearings and he found me the hub that fit my spindle. The delivery was fast. One of the bearings came bent but replacement was not an issue. The description of the hub only showed it was for 16" rims but Sam found a 15" rim that worked. - Taskmaster Steel Modular Trailer Wheel - 15" x 6" Rim - 6 on 5-1/2 - Black Pictures sent to Sam in email.

by:

Have not installed items at this time, but service has been GREAT so far. Waiting for a few more parts.

by:

Product looks good, and well made.
Trying
to convert a trailer house axle however didn't fit my application. Knew I would need to make bearing sleeves but when arrived I found my spindle wasn't long enough. So had to order spindles to match.

Also was planning on using rims off a 2006 chevy Silverado however they won't work because of the center hole needs to be larger. Older Chevy rims made for 4WD should work. Center hole should be around 4-4.5".

For future reference, measure length of your spindles as well as bearing and seal diameters.

A mention of spindle length needed as well as the center diameter of the hub would be a good things to add to description.

Great people to work with. Very friendly and knowledgeable. In shipping a bearing and cap was destroyed. They took care of it right away. No pictures, no explanation needed.

by:

Fit perfectly on my trailer house axles. My buddy and I swapped them out with ease. I already recommended the same type to two other friends with the same type of axles. David S. & Mark S. I'm ordering wheels and tires next. Thanks for offering a superior product.

by:

Made an old axle new!

This is a on going project on a utility trailer that I have had for over 25 years that has a mobile home axle on it changing over to a more traditional hub and wheel, the help that I got from etrailers was great, delivery was fast and the product was out standing. Thank you for everything and pictures will follow this spring as the trailer get built.:)

We sure do! You can visit the product page of the Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension - Straight Spindle - Off-Road Tires - 3,500 lbs # ASR35HDS01 by clicking on the part number in this question. This Timbren Axle-Less Suspension is the Heavy-Duty version which means even though it has a 3500lb rating, it is made out of thicker metal than the standard version and uses 5200-7000lb hubs instead of 3500lb hubs. For an idler hub (no brakes) that fits your spindle based on the bearing numbers you mentioned you'd want the part # 8-213-5UC1 or if you do have brakes on your trailer the correct hub would be the part # 8-201-5UC3-EZ which is a hub/drum. These both use the same bearings as what you have and have the standard 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern.

This is a 1/2 inch diameter stud that measures 2 inches in length. For a 1/2 inch stainless steel acorn lug nut we have the part # KALN1375S which would work well.

  • Which Wheels Fit On Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly, # 8-213-5UC1
When fitting wheels to a Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly, # 8-213-5UC1, you would need to measure the wheels you are trying to use. You would measure the bolt pattern, the center hole diameter, and the stud size. To measure the bolt circle on a 6 lug application you would measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the bolt hole directly across from it. So on the Dexter hub you referenced that measurement would have to be 5.5 inches. I have included a link to our FAQ article...

  • Can The Inner Bearing L68149 Be Used In Place Of The 25580 In The 8-213-5UC1 Hub
Hey Doug, the # 8-213-5UC1 hub that you mentioned uses only the # 25580 inner and # LM67048 outer bearings. The # 25580 bearing has a 1.75" ID and roughly 3-1/4" OD. The # L68149 bearing has a 1.378" ID and roughly 2-3/8" OD. So, there is no way the # L68149 could be used in the place of the # 25580 bearing. Mobile home axles usually use some oddball bearing sizes and they really are not designed to be re-used. It will likely prove very difficult to find compatible parts, so we would...

First, thanks for the kind words. We work hard to provide the best online experience in the industry. If the axle you have is a MOBILE home axle and not a motor home axle, then you will have to replace the axle. Mobile home axles are designed for one time use only and should not be reused. As a result of this one time use, there are very few replacement parts available. Now if it is an axle from a motor home then it is most likely a trailer axle and you will not need to replace it.
