Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

I patiently waited through about 3 1/2 months of supply delays, and the hubs have arrived. Pre-lubed, with shipping covers, was a nice touch. Most difficult was removing and re-installing the axle cotter pin. Otherwise, maybe 7 minutes install time per hub. Not punching out the bearing as it slides onto the stub is only other point of concern. Dust caps are a bit hard to get set. If I can, I'll include photos of previous axles, new install, and finished.

These have made a world of difference compared to the old ones. Even looks better. All 4 wheels the same, lug nuts all same, not fighting rust. Should have bought a fifth wheel for the spare, but whatever. Glad I got them. I will remember them ifwhen I get to my next trailer build. Now, what about converting trailer house axles to highway hubs, hmm.

In order to determine if the trailer house axle can be converted you would to know if there are compatible hubs and associated bearings to replace your current hubs to a more standard size. It is best to use a set of dial calipers to measure. You will need to measure the seal, inner bearing, and outer bearing. It is also possible that there may be bearing numbers stamped on these parts as well, and those would be helpful in obtaining the correct replacement compatible hub. Mobile home axles are commonly used for home made trailers since they are readily available. Since mobile home axles are not intended for continued use, replacement parts and compatible conversion parts are not usually readily available.

Excellent Hub Assembly that comes ready to slide onto the spindle. Purchased these hubs for a Trailer here in Canada. Even with the crazy exchange rate and shipping. It was still a better deal.

Product still performing well. No issues what so ever.

I bought a 5'x10' utility trailer that had some jeep wheels mounted with some wheel spacers with the 5x4.5 bolt pattern. I had some 6 lug wheels that matched my truck and wanted to switch the trailer over to 6x5.5 pattern and eliminate the wheel spacers. I followed the how to in the faq section on how to measure my axle spindle for correct hub/hub bearing replacement. These hubs were exactly what I needed and mounted just fine. It was awesome that the races, bearings, seals, and grease were pre-installed. Took about 20 minutes per side from old wheels and tires on the ground to new wheels and tires on the ground ready to roll. Very nice all in one product. The quality of the parts looks and feels great. Well worth the money. I would recommend these and etrailer.com to anyone needing parts to maintain your trailer. Thanks!

Perfect fit . Great price and fast shipping.Went from a 5 x 4.5 to a 6 x 5.5 bolt pattern so I could fit a FJ Cruiser wheel on a motorcycle trailer to match my vehicle..Thanks so much for your help and service.

by:

I’ve been looking for this hub for a few months now, and when I saw it online, I spent like two hours checking and rechecking it was the one I needed. The good thing is that the description on etrailer.com is detailed. Frankly now that I think about it, I spent more time making sure it was the correct hub, than what I did putting them on. They were pre greased and fit perfectly. The shipping was quick too, I received them three days after I placed my order. Thank you, etrailer.com for having what I needed.

@Allen Bearing protectors like the # BB1980A-SS Bearing Buddies would do a great job of excluding water from the bearings of your trailer, they're very easy to use and the integrated grease zerk makes keeping your bearings lubricated very easy.

by:

Easy money to install. I use stock 4runner wheels and tires on my trailer now.

by:

Quality Product at an Economical Price, with the most incredible customer service representative named Hannah!!! Could not be more pleased!!!

by:

These hubs installed perfectly on my utility trailer, and now it runs 17" 6-lug wheels that match my 4x4 (after fabricating a centering hub for the hub-centric wheels). With the addition of Bearing Buddies (also from etrailer) it's a great setup. Very happy with the product quality and delivery, etrailer is tops!

by:

Good product. But the shipping was delayed at no fault of etrailer. But it took a long time to even get a tracking number. Didn't get a tracking number untill I contacted etrailer about it

by:

Fit as expected, was a bit challenging as the trailer that came with the had the hubs rusted to the wheel, nothings would separate them, heat, cold nothing worked. Took the whole thing of and ordered the hub by micrometer measurements of the spindle. Fortunately etrailer provides these measurements.
I knew this rig was a labor of love from the start

by:

I ordered two wheel hubs with bearing last year for my trailer. Parts were easy to locate on your web sight, ordering was easy and shipment was very rapid. The parts are quality parts and have performed well for the past year. Very pleased with my purchase.

by:

by:

First time I ordered hub and spindle so they would match up sent the wrong hub for the spindle so reorder hub was back ordered for months I gave and got a refund but the whole axle I was working on I scraped and just a used axle so the new spindle was worthless.

by:

arrived in time. Worked perfectly

by:

I wanted to have the same bolt pattern on my trailer as my truck. When I needed a new rim for my trailer I bought 2 and made the switch. This will help save space and weight not needing an another spare tire. Web site had all the info you need, making it very easy to know what you are getting. shipment was on time. just add grease at install and you are ready to go.

by:

We are a very small agricultural manufacturing company, all our implements that require axle, spindles, tires,or wheels will be bought at etrailer. FREE SHIPPING!!! BIG SAVINGS!! GOOD EASY WEBSITE.

by:

etrailer as been a great help finding the right Hub to fit the wheel and tire I have. I didn't have any trouble with returning my 1st set of hubs. I haven't had a chance to see their products at work with my AG. sprayer trailer. Thank you for your help.

by:

Fit perfectly

by:

These came packaged well and were ready to be put on. Installation went smoothly and I completed the work in about 1.5 hours.

by:

Product is a great value but what I really like best are the online product information videos. Great information to make sure one is picking out the right items for their application.

by:

Nicely made. Good quality. They look like they’ll last for the life of the trailer as long as I maintain the maintenance
