Corrosion Resistance for Marine Use

This trailer hub assembly has a zinc coating that resists corrosion, making it ideal for use on your boat or snowmobile trailer. All GAL-DEX hubs undergo a test in which they are sprayed with a 5-percent salt solution to determine corrosion resistance over time. These products are able to withstand 500 hours of constant exposure to the saltwater mist. This 500-hour salt spray rating indicates that a product is not only durable enough to last in freshwater environments, but it can also be used on trailers that come into contact with saltwater

E-Z Lube-Compatible Assembly for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub-and-drum assembly is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Purchased 4 brake kits and hub/drum assemblies for a 12 yr old tandem axle aluminum car carrier. Great product, quality, and delivery. Installed new bearings, brakes and drums, looks great and and rides line new...!!!

My salesman Troy provided me superb assistance and customer service. Kudos to etrailer and Troy..!!

by:

Had to wait a few days for etrailer to get these plated hubs back in stock, but when they arrived installation was what you'd expect. Quality seems very good, and made in USA (bonus). These are Dexter brand hub/drums. Time will tell if the plating will make any difference on my boat trailer application. Originals were not plated and were ugly/rusty, but also 30 years + old so I opted to replace vs have them turned / wire-brush and paint. Glad I waited.

by:

Fit perfectly, easy install

by:

These drums are nice made in the USA parts with every thing you need to install them for half the money you would pay at a trailer shop.
Shipped to my door and package so they weren't all beat to crap when I received them.
Nice job etrailer.

  • 2004 Ranger Trailer Hub Recommendation
From past experiences with your trailer we do know a bit about what hubs are typically going to fit but I would recommend you verify first by checking your trailer. We have found that your trailer has inner bearing L68149, ID 1.378, race OD 2.0362, outer bearing L44649 ID 1.063, and race OD 1.980. I recommend the Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly # 8-247-50UC3-EZ. • How To Measure For Replacement Bearings to Replace Timken Bearings
I was not able to find much information about the dimensions of the Timken bearings provided. Please measure the spindle with a digital caliper and provide me with the measurements and I can recommend the correct bearing kit for you. I have attached a diagram of where to measure the spindle to get the most accurate measurements. You can also measure the inner diameter of the bearings themselves if that is easier.

  • How to Determine Correct Hubs For Trailer
There are different versions of those, so it's impossible to give you an answer. There is just a single way to determine the hubs that fit your trailer, as you will need to take apart your current hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them. If you are unable to find them, you need to use a digital caliper measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch where the bearings ride; you will...

  • Recommended Replacement Hub/Brake Drum for Boat Trailer Axle
I'd almost be willing to bet the farm that your inside bearing is actually a L44649 with an inner diameter of 1.063 inches. A typical 3500 lb axle will have a L68149 inner and a L44649 outer bearing. If that's the case, the Dexter # 8-247-50UC3-EZ galvanized hub/drum you looked at would work well for you. The hub includes the bearings, races, 10-19 grease seal, grease cap and lug nuts.

    You are correct.
