Features to know about

Built for Real Work: Reliable 5,200-lb Dexter Strength

When you need a hub that can stand up to everyday hauling, this Dexter idler hub assembly is made for it. It fits 5,200-lb axles and is built from sturdy iron for lasting durability under load. Each hub supports up to 3,000 lbs and uses the proven 25580 inner bearing (1.75" ID) and LM67048 outer bearing (1.25" ID) setup trusted on heavy-duty trailers. The 6-on-5-1/2" bolt pattern matches easily with a wide range of 14" to 16-1/2" wheels for dependable performance mile after mile.

Skip the Parts Chase: Complete Hub Assembly

This kit comes ready with everything you need to get rolling again — bearings, races, grease seal, grease cap, wheel bolts, and lug nuts are all included. No extra digging for matching hardware or guessing which components fit. Just pack your bearings, slide the hub in place, tighten the 1/2"-diameter studs, and you’re set to tow.

Smooth Fit for Common Spindles: Simple Compatibility

Dexter keeps things straightforward with parts that match industry standards. The hub uses the same bearing set (25580 inner and LM67048 outer) found on most 5.2K and 6K spindles like the TruRyde TRU57FR or TRU37FR. The grease seal (10-10) fits a 2.125" inner and 3.376" outer diameter bore, giving a precise fit that keeps grease where it belongs and helps prevent contamination or leaks over time.

Built for the Long Haul: Proven Dexter Quality

From boat trailers to RV rebuilds, this hub is trusted because it’s simple, solid, and proven reliable. The iron construction resists wear from heat and load cycles, while Dexter’s tight machining tolerances mean the bearings seat right every time. Whether you’re refreshing an older setup or keeping a spare on hand for roadside peace of mind, this hub is made to keep your trailer rolling smooth and true for years to come.

Determining Bolt Pattern

1. Count the lug holes

Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).

Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug

2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.

Center to Center
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"

2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).

Center to Outside Edge
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Dexter Trailer Idler Hub for 5,200 pound axles, has the 6 on 5 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Now, this trailer hub assembly is designed to fit onto idler axles, which are axles without brakes. The parts all on this table are all included. Includes the idler hub itself, the inner bearing race, the outer bearing race, which is already pre-installed into the hub. Comes with the outer bearing right there.

Comes with the inner bearing. Comes with the grease seal that'll go over this when your inner bearing is installed, and the grease cap, which would cover your outer bearing. And also, six of the 1/2 inch by 20 size lug nuts. Now, the part numbers for all these parts are listed on the product page of this item. Now, this is a sturdy iron construction.

Few specs again, application, fits a 5,200 pound trailer axle, and it will be used for wheel size anywhere from 14 1/2 inches up to 16 1/2 inches. Bolt pattern on this is 6 on 5 1/2 inch. Wheel stud size, 1/2 inch diameter. So again, they require the use of 1/2 inch by 20 size lug nuts, which are included. And the weight capacity on this idler hub is 3,000 pounds.

I had the bearing numbers from the original hub and I couldn't locate them on the website - probably because I wasnt searching right. So I figured I would give etrailer a call. Sure enough, they found the exact match and sent me the info I needed for ordering. Awesome customer service and this was the easiest swap from old mobile home hubs to a modern hub with radial tires. Not to mention that the price was affordable and definitely the lowest around. I feel like I got a great deal and an awesome product. The trailer rides so smooth now and looks much better. Thank you etrailer. I'll definitely be back in the future.

The dexter hub kit was perfect for my needs. The kit included pre-installed bearing races for both inner and outer bearings. I was able to install both sides of the axle in an hours time. My trailer now rides like when it was new. Thanks a million for the on time delivery and quality products! :)

by:

Quality Dexter product! These are to replace a brand new set of hubs installed by a trailer shop on my boat trailer. They installed cheap, Chinese made hubs and bearings which lasted just less than 1200 miles before one side completely failed. I installed both of these Dexter hubs and bearings last night and discovered the other side was probably very close behind.
Comparing the two brands, it was obvious the Dexter products were far superior in machining, fit, finish and overall construction.

This is a on going project on a utility trailer that I have had for over 25 years that has a mobile home axle on it changing over to a more traditional hub and wheel, the help that I got from etrailers was great, delivery was fast and the product was out standing. Thank you for everything and pictures will follow this spring as the trailer get built.:)

by:

Excellent tech help, quick shipping, parts arrived and installed this weekend. As etrailer stated they fit perfect on my old mobile home axle and yes I would highly recommend them. The only thing that would have helped a little is stating the bearing seal size, in this kit it is 2.125. Bob

I have home built trailer with a mobile home axle on it. Getting tires for was getting harder to find and they were unable to balance them. I got replacement hubs, bearings, wheels and tire from etrailer. They arrived in 3 days. An hour after they arrived I had them instaled. The seals didn't match but the old seals were in good shape so I used them. The dust covers did not fit so I used the old ones there. I think it is just very hard to get everything to match up on those axles. I am very happy with the results.
Rose at etrailer was very helpful on my initial call too.
I have since placed another order for hubs, wheels and tires for an other trailer I am repairing.
Thank you Rose for your help.

Continues to work well with no problems or concerns.

by:

Product looks good, and well made.
Trying
to convert a trailer house axle however didn't fit my application. Knew I would need to make bearing sleeves but when arrived I found my spindle wasn't long enough. So had to order spindles to match.

Also was planning on using rims off a 2006 chevy Silverado however they won't work because of the center hole needs to be larger. Older Chevy rims made for 4WD should work. Center hole should be around 4-4.5".

For future reference, measure length of your spindles as well as bearing and seal diameters.

A mention of spindle length needed as well as the center diameter of the hub would be a good things to add to description.

Great people to work with. Very friendly and knowledgeable. In shipping a bearing and cap was destroyed. They took care of it right away. No pictures, no explanation needed.

by:

Fit perfectly on my trailer house axles. My buddy and I swapped them out with ease. I already recommended the same type to two other friends with the same type of axles. David S. & Mark S. I'm ordering wheels and tires next. Thanks for offering a superior product.

Hauled a many loads since my hub upgrade from etrailer, I am still very pleased 1 year later, Thank You!

by:

I bought these hub assemblies to replace the ones that came with the boat trailer. Since they were installed I live 50 miles south of Chicago. The trailer has been to Okeechobee Fl. 2 times, also Chetek Wisconsin 3 times. When traveling ,every time I stop for eats or fuel I feel the hubs. The hubs are always just a few degrees above ambient.
PS I also installed S.S. bearing buddy's, from E Trailer.

I have a utility trailer that I have
had for over 25 years. It had a mobile home axle on it with Dayton style hubs and 14.5. inch rims and tires. I wanted to change over to a more traditional hubs and wheels. The help from Sam G was great. I gave him the part number of outside and inside bearings and he found me the hub that fit my spindle. The delivery was fast. One of the bearings came bent but replacement was not an issue. The description of the hub only showed it was for 16" rims but Sam found a 15" rim that worked. - Taskmaster Steel Modular Trailer Wheel - 15" x 6" Rim - 6 on 5-1/2 - Black Pictures sent to Sam in email.

Perfect fit, Thank you.

Everything worked perfectly. I wanted a conversion kit like this for over 20 years. Glad I found etrailer.com. Thanks

by:

This seems to be a good quality hub. I haven't gotten the opportunity to install as circumstances have conspired against me so far but I'm sure it will work perfectly.

The real bright spot is that there was a minor problem with my order and Rebecca and George were very quick to respond. They got everything fixed with absolutely no hassle! The level of customer service has proven to me that the staff at etrailer.com are willing to do everything possible to find the right solution for the customer. I will definitely be shopping with etrailer.com again!!

These idler hubs are great! Very happy with them. I have used the trailer several times and there haven’t been any issues. Finally no more squeaking and squealing from bad bearings and hubs.

by:

Excellent product. Have used them on 3 trailers. Every time I buy a used trailer, I completely rebuild the hubs, bearings and brakes.

I don’t trust other people to keep boat axels, up to my standards. We travel long distances with our boat trailers.

Never had a failure.

Thank You etrailer!

Excellent. They work great. Keep up the Maintence and they will probably never fail. I am also a big fan of bearing buddies.

by:

Excellent experience all the way around! Fast shipping. Simple installation. Great instructions and videos. Reasonable prices. The best part though is the customer service. I ended up speaking to William B a couple times and he guided me thought ordering exactly the right thing. He had me confirm various measurements on my trailer to ensure I had the correct parts. Actually he helped me discover that the parts I was removing were incorrect so if we had of replaced like for like I would have had problems. Getting this right up front made the installation and final quality what it should be. Thank you eTrailer and thank you William!

by:

Shipping time was good. Perfect fit. Repaced mobile home hubs with these. Make sure you have the right size inner and outer bearings.

by:

Received 2 dexter hubs and replaced my mobile home hubs with them in about an hour I used Toyota rims from a 1999 trunda fits great did use longer nuts becouse the rims had counter sunk holes

by:

Following a minor shipping hiccup, James at etrailer.com responded quickly and professionally to get my new hubs to me in a timely manner. Things may not always go as planned with shipments, but I know I can count on the crew at etrailer to make it right.
Thanks James and George!!

I searched for what seemed like forever to find a fix for my mobile home trailer axles. I bought a homemade trailer and was needing new tires, they were and odd size 14.5... and I needed new bearings too. The axles were 5200 lb axles. The wheels had a very bad wobble and I felt like I was going to spend a lot money to make a temporary fix. There was so much conflicting information on these axles and compatibility of replacement parts. I bought these hubs and hoped for the best. They fit perfectly! I'm very pleased. I ordered them last night and they arrived this afternoon! Overnight shipping?! Also the costumer service was amazing!! I asked so many questions and felt like i was talking to a friend i've known my whole life.

by:

Items came quickly once in stock. I asked for them separately but would have lost the free shipping...good looking out! Went from old Christmas tree farm trailer to camp hauler. The updated hubs and rims were the last piece. Great customer service!

by:

I bought these hubs to replace the 30+ year old originals on the 6000 lb axle under my late fathers homemade 4x8 trailer. The original hubs couldn't have modern wheels mounted to them so doing this allowed me to mount modern 225/15r75 tires and wheels as well as have a spare. Install was quick and easy, the fit of every part was perfect. Service from etrailer was excellent, couldn't have been better.

by:

Awesome stuff. Between etrailer & Dexter we found a perfect idler hub replacement to go from demountable rims to rims w/lug nuts.
All I need now are rims & tires.

  • Replacement Hub with Bearings LM67048 25580 and 2-1/4 inch Grease Seal
Actually we have a fit as a replacement for the hub you have based on the bearing and seal dimension you listed. It looks like you have a number 42 spindle which is very common. For a hub without a drum the part # 8-213-5UC1 would fit but you would need to swap out the seal with the part # GS-2250DL.

  • Will Upgrading 6 Lug Hubs to 8 Lug Hubs Increase Trailer Capacity
Simply upgrading to a higher capacity hub won't necessarily increase the capacity of your trailer. You will still be limited to the capacity of the lowest rated component, whether it be the hub, the axle, the wheels or tires or even the structure of the trailer itself. In order to swap out your hubs to a different bolt pattern, you'll need to choose hubs that are compatible with your existing spindles. If you can provide the reference numbers from the existing bearings, I can check to...

  • Hub that Fits Trailer Axle with Bearing Dimensions of 1.25 and 1.75 inch
The bearing dimensions you mentioned match the standard number 42 trailer spindle so we can easily fit a hub to your axles. Only issue is none of the hubs that will fit have the 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern you are wanting as that's a bolt pattern for lower capacity axles. You have to go with an idler hub like the part # 8-213-5UC1 which has a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern.

  • Changing My Hub to a 6 Lug From a 5 Lug With 3,500 lbs Axles
Hey, Andre. We have just the hub/drum for you! Since you have a 3.5k axle you will want the trailer hub and drum assembly part # TRU58AV.It come pre-greased so will make for a pretty easy install. This drum does use a typical bearing combination (inner bearing # L68149 and outer bearing # L44649) but I still recommend checking yours just to make sure. Any reason why you want to go to a 16" wheel?

  • Using 6000 lb Hubs on 7000 lb Axle
As long as bearings on the hub you choose are compatible with the existing spindle on your axle, you can indeed change to hubs that have the desired wheel bolt pattern. The first step would be to confirm the dimensions of your spindles using an accurate measuring device like a digital caliper. Using a ruler would not provide a measurement that is precise enough. I have provided a diagram that will will show you where to take the measurements. The # 8-213-5UC1 hub would be compatible with...

  • Can Dexter 8-213-5UC1 Hub Replace Dexter 8-133 Hub
I spoke with my contact at Dexter to find the bearing and seal information on the 8-133 hub. She confirmed that the 8-133 hub uses inner bearing # 25580 and outer bearing # LM67048 with the 10-1 # GS-2125DL grease seal. These match with the hub you referenced # 8-213-5UC1. The Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly # 8-213-5UC1 will work well for you.
