  • White PVC pipes slide over steel posts so you can see your submerged trailer
  • Simple installation on rear crossmember of trailer frame with included hardware - no drilling required

  • Overall height: 40"
  • Steel post dimensions: 18" tall x 1-1/2" diameter
  • PVC Pipe diameter: 2-3/8"
  • Quantity: 2 boat guide-ons

Note: Check with your state Department of Transportation for restrictions regarding maximum trailer width.

Guide Your Boat Into and Out of the Water with Ease

When your boat trailer has been backed down the ramp and is partially submerged, these 40" tall guideposts that are mounted on the rear corners of the frame will stick out of the water, giving you 2 highly visible targets to guide your boat between for loading. The PVC pipes also provide a visual aid to help you back your boat trailer down the ramp when you're unloading and loading your boat.

Installation

The posts are simple to install. Slide the PVC pipes over the pre-galvanized steel support posts. Then mount the posts on the top or below the trailer frame, as close to the rear corners as possible. Adjust the posts so that the distance between each post and your boat is less than 1".

Pre-Galvanized Steel

Pre-galvanized steel parts are stamped from a sheet of steel after it has already been galvanized. The edges of pre-galvanized parts often lose their zinc coating during the stamping process. Because of the thinness of the coating (less than 1 mil) and the fact that the edges remain exposed, pre-galvanized parts can begin to oxidize and rust quickly, so it's recommended that they be primed and painted.

Video Transcript for CE Smith Boat Trailer Parts - Guides - CE27620 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look in part number CE27620. These are the CE smith Post Style Guide Ons for boat trailers. Once installed, they're going to have an overall height of forty inches off the side of your trailer. The guide posts are going to provide a visual target on your trailer to help you load and unload your boat. It will extend out of the water. They are tall enough to extend out of the water.

That's going to help you center the boat while loading. It's also going to come in handy when you're backing your trailer down the boat ramp. These right here, these are going to be the galvanized steel arms that are PVC tubing. It's going to slide over. The tubing right here, the square designed, that's going to give us an inch and a half diameter. It's going to be 16 gauge, pre-galvanized steel tubes.

Theses are going to mount directly to the trailer frame and then the PVC piping is going to measure two inches in diameter, that's designed to slide over the galvanized steel arms. Very simple installation. These are going to install on the rear crossmember of the trailer frame. It's going to come with all the necessary hardware, so everything that you see here on the table is included as well. Some end caps to over the PVC tubing. You're going to get your brackets, your U-bolts and then all the necessary lock nuts and flat washers.

Everything that you need is included to get this fully installed. This will adjust out to thirteen inches from the trailer. CE Smith is going to make this product fully in the USA. It's going to come with two boat guide ons and it is designed for trailer frames up to three inches wide by four and one quarter inches tall. Now if you have a frame on the trailer that's five and a quarter inches tall, you will need some extra long U-bolt kits.

You can find those on our website with part number CE11416 and those are going to be sold separately. The post height when it's fully installed is going to be forty inches and you want to be sure to check with your state department of transportation for restrictions regarding maximum trailer width. Really simple installation process though. The arms right here have a little notch designed on them. That's going to make sure that the PVC tubing does not rotate, so I'm going to go ahead and just show you the tubing is going to slide over the galvanized steel. It's going to come down and it's got this slot in it that's going to engage the no-rotate notch, so the piping goes on the end of that galvanized steel right there and you could place an end cap on this portion here. That's really easy to get fully installed under your trailer. Another neat feature is that you can adjust this to fit the width of your boat so the installation again is very simple and easy. The posts are going to be really easy to install. Again all you got to do is slide the PVC posts over the galvanized steel support post, making sure that the slots on the post engage the no-rotate notch. This arm down here is going to be the arm that mounts to the trailer, so you would mount the post on top or below the trailer frame. It gives you that option. Your bracket is designed to go over the galvanized steel arm and then this is going to allow you to adjust it. Once you have this attached to your trailer frame with the necessary or the included U-bolts and hardware, you want to loosely install it. That way you can slide the arm in and out and you want the arm with the PVC piping on there to sit no more than one inch away from the surface in or the side part of your boat so you can adjust the posts so that the distance between each post in your boat is going to be less than one inch. Once you have that set, all you have to do is tightened down all the hardware, install the end caps on the end of the PVC tubing and then you're going to be set and ready to go and they're going to be fully functional and ready for use. That's going to do it for our review of part number CE27620. These are the CE Smith Post Style Guide Ons for boat trailers. .

Hi George, Thanks for your patience with this review. Finally got around to installing the guide posts today. Overall, I'm very pleased with the quality and materials used. Initially, it took a while to figure out how best to install (under versus above the rail) but once we decided, we were pleased with our decision. ( I have a Continental trailer) I would recommend this product to anyone looking for solid well made trailer guide posts. Much easier to launch and retrieve my jon boat! Thank you! 466628

Easy install. Product is as advertised and I am completely satisfied. I did ad longer uprights then the 4ft ones in the kit but the reason was the boat launch I use required it to keep my tail lights well out of the saltwater and above the gunnels of the boat when loading /unloading. 554336

The boat guides appear to be exactly what I need. I did a lot of research before ordering this product and the metal brackets are even sturdier than expected. It would take a major collision to bend these one-piece brackets. 60355

Still working fine after a year. Nothing has broken, bent, or come loose. I would definitely recommend this product to my friends. As always, eTrailer was great to deal with.

Received the product shortly after placing my order. Instructions for installation were perfect as well as the online video. It only took me 30 minutes to install the boat guide-ons. All I needed was a ratchet. They look great! I already used them to hook up my boat to my truck and I lined up perfectly on my first try. I can't wait to see how they perform when getting my boat from the water back on my trailer. That used to be a struggle especially when there was a current. Again a great product. 551060

Received the 2 sets of guides posts in good time and in good condition. When I assembles the posts on my trailers I found it was impossible to "slide" the pvc posts over the ends of the galvanized mount posts. I tried to call customer service and was put on hold and told I was 16th in line. After a half hour of waiting I gave up. I tried calling the manufacture for help (C E Smith Company) and got a dead end in their phone system. Finally frustrated I used a heat gun to soften the ends of the round PVC tubes and then was able to force them over the square metal posts. I think the manufacture needs to have better quality control and test whether the parts fit. 430625

These guides arrived in a timely manner. Installation was simple and straightforward. The first time I put my boat on the trailer using these they proved their worth. I had to approach the trailer from an angle due to a busy ramp. I used the outside guide as a pivot and with a little forward throttle was able to line the boat up and onto the trailer with no problems. I would recommend these to anyone searching for a good setup for their boat trailer. 203920

My previous boat was a heavy 16-foot aluminum bass boat and it did not have trailer guides. I struggled on more than one occasion trying to trailer the boat during high winds and/or heavy current and I swore that my next boat will have these. I had to modify the way they mounted to my new trailer but I was provided with enough mounting hardware to mount them in pretty much any way that I might need. These guides work perfectly for my little 14-foot jon boat. The materials used are high quality and the finished guides are very sturdy. 256220

I just put these on my boat trailer this past Saturday and haven't had my boat out to test them yet but from what I can tell so far, these are going to be pretty awesome. I've always avoided going to the lake if there is any kind of wind because it is no fun trying to trailer my boat with the wind blowing. These are very rigid and were the perfect height for my Stingray boat on my Phoenix trailer. I ordered these one day, they were shipped the same day and I received them the next day! I have to admit though, the place where they were shipped from is only about 70-75 miles from my house. Take some advice - I tried painting these to match my trailer and the 3 coats of self etching primer and 3 coats of paint did not stick to the galvenized steel even after proper preparation and drying time, so don't bother (unless I just did it all wrong). I shouldn't have even wasted my time and money on primer and paint. I AM, however, glad I ordered and installed these! 395867

Purchased a set of guides for my boat. I installed the first one with no issues at all. After installing the bracket to my trailer on the second guide I was ready to install the PVC tube. Unfortunately, the inside diameter of the tube was too small to fit over the outside diameter of the bracket. I continued to work it and eventually got about an inch or so of the tube over the bracket. Couldn't push the rest of it down because the fit was so tight. I wound up breaking off a piece of the PVC tube. I called and spoke with a customer service rep [at CE Smith] and found out that they have had issues with some tubes. He was able to order me another one at no charge and said it would arrive by a certain day and it did. He also told me that they would ensure that the new tube would fit over the bracket before they shipped it. After receiving the new one I installed it with no problem just like the first one. Great customer service! 145163

Easy to install these well made guides. These keep the back of the boat from being blown sideways, and in my case, allow me to see my narrow little boat when I’m backing up, or just driving down the road. I had an extra set of trailer lights that weren’t really good enough to submerge, so after I finished installing these I attached these lights to the PVC top cap, then just ran the wires down and connected to my existing wiring. Now I can really see, and be seen. Please note that the lights in my image DO NOT come with these. 557618

Boat guide arrived on time and all parts required in package. Ranger boat trailer has a fender well that goes to back of trailer so your support folks advised that I install on top of C frame. All went well but the Ranger is wide so the guide insert at the frame is 1.5 inches short of going to the end of the bracket. Guide is really sturdy and should work fine. Only other choice would be to use 5" U bolts and move the mounting bracket forward and inch. I have not been able to find 5" brackets in hardware stores or on line.....do you know where they are available? Guide looks great and look forward to trying it out at the lake. 522911

The post style guide-ons are excellent quality. My trailer is a 1954 Starcraft tilt bed trailer so the fit will be different. I will use the existing roller brackets and the fenders by modifiying the guide ons by drilling mounting holes in them. They happen to fit the roller brackets exactly. You would have to have one of these trailers to really see. The delivery was quick and the follow up was excellent. 151053

I take my 15' Klamath aluminum boat out by myself all the time. I purchased these guides to make it easier for me to get the boat centered back on my EZ Loader trailer, especially on breezy days. My trailer is a lot narrower than my pick-up, meaning I can't see anything when backing the empty trailer down the ramp. Before I would have to remove my tonneau cover before leaving home (which is difficult by myself). At the ramp I would have to put the tailgate down to see where the trailer was going. These guides stick up far enough that I can leave the tonneau cover on and avoid that whole hassle. This is an added benefit I didn't originally anticipate. Great price. Mine was delivered ahead of schedule! Install is a breeze. People at etrailer are friendly and very helpful. The web site is easy to use. Product info is complete. I didn't need it, but liked that they include specific part numbers that might be needed for different size trailer frames. Besides the product instructions, the video guides are really nice to have available. I would definitely use etrailer again and would highly recommend them. 238631

The Guide-ons were a breeze to install and definitely help when the water is choppy and I am trying to pull the boat out of the lake! At some point, I may add the lighted caps, but for now these are great!! Just make sure to mount them on the trailer at a location that is wider than the widest point on the boat hull. My boat has somewhat of an hourglass shape that narrows towards the stern side. I mounted the guide-ons based on the stern width and just so happened to have the "duh" moment when standing back and admiring the new lights that I also purchased from etrailer... Adjusted them so that the ENTIRE boat would fit between them (HAHA) and the work great!.. Glad I caught it before trying to launch.... that would have been interesting... Easy to mount (and later adjust). etrailer has been a pleasure to do business with!! 273043

This is a well designed product, but as designed it was almost too small for my needs. My boat is a 14ft Zodiac (RIB) that I use for diving and the tubes on the boat make it wider than normal. These guide posts have a 13 in. maximum distance from the trailer frame and at their max they were just rubbing the strakes on the tubes of my boat. It took some innovation but I've made it work. I primed and painted today and will do the final mount later this week. What sets these guide posts apart is the thickness of the PVC sleeves. They are heavy duty when compared to the ones I saw at [sporting goods store] which were like egg shells. 369232

Good solid product, and quite easy to install. I painted the bars with a primer / paint spray prior to installing. I recently bought a new truck and the site lines were not as good as my old SUV. It has been a year and the guides still look great and work great. We used them a bit different. They were installed on a boat lift. When bringing in the boat they guide it in and keep it from hitting anything on the dock that might damage the boat. They also help hold it in place while the lift brings the boat up. It really works well. 273604

Order came in ahead of schedule. The hardware is made to fit a wide variety of trailer frames and fit mine just fine. I used a deep socket on my impact drill that made instal a breeze. I had both installed in about 15 minutes. They are very sturdy and look good on my new trailer. The boat will load straight and the stern will not float side to side during retrieval. These were also a necessity for me because I could not see my trailer when it was empty. I now have a guide while backing. I would recommend this product and order from etrailer again in the future. 289040

The delivery service was excellent and the guide posts are beautifully made. However, to get more sideways extension than 13", I installed the posts on my heavy flat trailer fenders rather than on the frame. That required drilling 8 holes and buying 1" bolts but, it enabled me to get the 83" between the posts needed for my sailboat. Because the fenders are not perfectly rigid, there is some flex; but the installation seems to be working well, and I am pleased with it. I'll try to send pictures later. 124895

Just what I have been needing since I bought the boat & trailer as it is very difficult to get the boat centered on the trailer and the winch post is not visible when approaching. If there is a problem, it's that the PVC post just slip over the galvanized brackets and could possibly be knocked off when approaching the trailer in rough water. the problem can be easily solved by installing a self tapping screw through the PVC into the brackets. One other problem is that the company suggest you paint the galvanized parts to prevent rust. Water is going to get inside the brackets no matter what you do and I can't really figure any reasonable way to paint the inside of the brackets, so invariably rust is going to form on the inside which will eventually rust through. 321932

by:

I installed these myself on an aluminum fishing boat (14') trailer. They are a necessity if you are trying to load your boat in a lateral breeze or current to keep the boat from drifting sideways off of the trailer. The bend of the square tube is absolutely vertical, so because of this I had to 'bend' the upright on them outward slightly to achieve a 10 to 15 degree outward angle to fit the width of the boat. I wish the horizontal portion of the square tube was about 6" longer. Oh well, they work great with minor modification and I would recommend them. 156220

- CE27620

by:

Had to modify. Guess I didn't read that I only had 13" from trailer to edge of upright, so Igot some tubing and extended it out. Also one side the PVC went down nice and easy, a little tight, but the other side had to be driven on with a small sledge hammer. Don't know why the difference. 147042

CE Smith makes a few similar guide-on post models, some that are lighted, some that arent. The string you speak of is actually a wire thats used for the lamp that installs on the top of the post. You purchased the non-lighted model, so the wire wasnt included. The provided instructions cover both the lighted and non-lighted models.

  • Mounting Boat Trailer Guide-Ons to Triton Boat Trailer With Fender Step Extends to Rear of Trailer
  • It sounds like you'll need to do some fab work in order to get the guide-ons to work. I believe your best bet would be to eliminate the u-bolts and have the brackets welded to the top or the underside of the frame member. If the fender step doesn't extend more than 13 inches from the side of the frame member, you can mount to the underside of the frame and the upright portion of the guide-on will clear the step. Otherwise, you'd need to attach to the top of the frame member.

  • Boat Trailer Guide On Recommendation for a Deep V Lund Boat Trailer
  • It sounds like the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons # CE27620 aren't wide or tall enough for your boat trailer. Since I can't recommend you bend the brackets a better option would be the # CE27635 which is similar but can adjust out an additional 6 inches on either side and will be 35 inches taller.

  • Dimensions of Steel Tubing in CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons Kit # CE27640
  • I took a walk to our warehouse so that I could measure the dimensions of the L-shaped square steel tubes in the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons Kit # CE27640. These square tubes are separate from the 60-inch PVC pipes that are included in the kit. From the middle of the bend to the end of the horizontal tube the measure is 21-inches. We also offer a similar kit with 40-inch PVC pipes, part # CE27620, and a 60-inch kit # CE27760 that includes LED lights that mount on top of the pipes. A...

  • Boat Guide-Ons for a Boston Whaler Classic Montauk and Trailrite Boat Trailer
  • No customers have said specifically they were using CE Smith guide-ons # CE27620 for a Whaler Classic Montauk. The overall height from the top of the pipes all the way down to where the metal support arm starts to turn towards the trailer is 46-1/2 inches. There is a 50 inch tall model from Fulton, # FGB1500100. And The 60 inch one, # CE27640, could work if you trimmed some length from the PVC pipes.

  • Will CE Smith Post Style Guide-Ons Work with a Tahoe Q5 and Trailer
  • I think what you are going to have to do, since that step extends so far back on the trailer and the frame has an angle to it, is bolt the bracket to the top of the step rather than clamp it to the frame. So basically the post will be sandwiched between the bracket and the step.

  • Is Mounting Hardware Included with the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons for Boat Trailers
  • The CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons, # CE27620, attach to the trailer frame using u-bolts rather than clamps. The u-bolts are included with the guide-ons and they will fit trailer frames up to 3 in. wide by 4-1/4 in. tall. If you need longer u-bolts, then you can use the extra long u-bolts part # CE11416 for trailer frames up to 5-1/4 in. long. I have attached a link to the installation instructions for you to check out.

  • Replacement U-Bolts for Fulton Boat Trailer Guide-Ons
  • We have u-bolt kit # CE11416 from CE Smith that could work for you though it is a replacement for CE Smith Guide-Ons like # CE27620 which a little different than the Fulton model. The Fulton model has top and bottom brackets whereas the CE Smith guide-ons do not so the u-bolts might not be long enough depending on the height of your frame. It would probably be better to go with replacement hardware kit # CE11452-A.

  • Styles and Sizes of Boat Trailer Guide-Ons
  • The CE Smith Bunk Style Guide-Ons for Pontoon Boat Trailers # CE27671 do offer two choices of mounting height, but if you prefer a taller guide-on you might prefer the post-style units shown on the linked page. We offer these in many heights from 16-inch # FBGR200101 up to 75-inch # CE27636. You can select your preferred size using the filters on the page.

  • I went to the warehouse and pulled one of the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons, part # CE27620 to take a measurement for you. When the PVC post is slipped over the arm of the guide-on, 12 inches of the upright arm is inside the PVC pipe.

  • Can Boat Tail Lights Be Installed On CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons
  • We do offer brackets to mount lights on the 40 inch CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons like part # CE27620, or the 60 inch version, part # CE27640. You can use the CE Smith Light Mounting Brackets, part # CE27650A. The heavy-duty brackets attach to the guide-ons and extend the lights 7-1/2 inches from the posts. They help keep the lights out of the water so they remain safe when loading and unloading. These brackets come with the mounting hardware. If you are interested in replacing the...

  • Boat Trailer Guide On Recommendation for Four Winns 135 HP Boat Trailer
  • I looked up pictures of your boat and trailer and since it's a bit smaller the shorter CE Smith Guide-Ons part # CE27620 would be the best option. These are 40 inches tall which would be plenty tall for your setup.

  • Will the Post Style Guide-Ons for Boat Trailers Provide a Secure Support Guide for my Pontoon Boat
  • I spoke with my contact at CE Smith and she said that the 13 inch measurement is from the outside edge of the trailer frame. If your 2008 Sun Tracker Fishing Barge extends 11 inches past the outside edge of the trailer's frame on each side, the Post Style Guide-Ons for Boat Trailers, # CE27620, will still have enough extension to provide a secure support for the guides. Something else you may want to take a look at would be the Post-Style Guide-Ons for Pontoon Boat Trailers, # CE27670....

  • Availability of Vertical Posts for Rear Corners of PWC Trailer
  • I'd recommend something like the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons, part # CE27620. The posts easily mount to the trailer using the included u-bolts. A lighted post system like # CE27740 is also available. It'd make your jet ski easier to load in low light situations, as well as making your trailer more visible when towing at night.

  • Fit of CE Smith Post Guide-Ons on a 1986 Champion Bass Boat Trailer
  • The guide posts will fit, as long as your frame members aren't wider than 3-3/4 inches wide and 4-1/4 inches tall. They are adjustable up to 13-inches from the outside edge of the trailer frame. (See picture to the right). The guide posts extend out of the water to provide a visual target when loading your boat onto the trailer. You will mount the posts on the top or below the trailer frame. I attached a installation link for you as well.

  • What Material Is Used For CE Smith Replacement Hardware Kit for Post-Style Guide-Ons
  • I spoke with my contact at CE Smith and they told me that the U-shaped brackets in the Replacement Kit part # CE11452-A are galvanized. They said the U-bolts, washers and nuts are zinc-plated. The caps are PVC. This kit is designed to work with models CE27620, 27625, CE27640, 27645, CE27670, CE27740, and CE27760.

  • Will Fulton Boat Trailer Guide-Ons Work for a Single Axle Escort Trailer
  • The Fulton boat guides # FGB1500100 should work for you because there is some degree of adjustability in and out along the horizontal parts of the PVC pipes. From the closest part of the bowed upright to the end of the PVC tube the measurement is 15 inches. From the same spot to the inside of the closest U-Bolt the measurement is 13 inches, when mounted on a 2 inch square tube frame. Your frame size will dictate this measurement. Thirteen inches is fairly common. The CE Smith guide...

These are great for showing you where your partially submerged trailer is in relation to your boat. In terms of making loading the boat easier, we offer roller bunks in various lengths that provide greatly reduced friction as compared to standard carpeted bunks. Roller...

  • How Tall is the Metal Support Tube that Fits Inside the PVC Guide-Ons
  • The metal part that the PVC fits on is 40 inches but not the metal posts themselves. I went out to the warehouse and pulled one to measure the metal part. Measuring from the top of the horizontal part of the tube to the top of the vertical part it is 18-1/2 inches.

  • Can CE Smith Guide-Ons be Installed on a CEM Smith Multi Sport Trailer
  • If your trailer is the same as # CE48810 then there should be some space between the backs of the tail lights and backs of the fenders so that is one possible location. Otherwise, if you were to install it further back on the cross member at the back of the trailer the guide-ons would have to sit up higher like you said. The guide-ons are so basic though that I have no doubt that you could mount them despite the limited space on the trailer frame.
