Features to know about

Quick Hookup Every Time: Drop-N-Go Auto-Latch Coupler

The Drop-N-Go coupler makes hitching simple. It automatically seats around and latches onto a 2" hitch ball, even when the latch is closed, so you can just drop it on and go. A pin secures the ball in the socket for a solid connection, and the low-profile handle keeps release easy when you’re ready to unhook. This setup saves time and makes connecting your trailer straightforward even on uneven ground.

Strong, Long-Lasting Build: Steel Body with Zinc Plating

The Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go actuator is built from durable steel and coated in zinc for excellent corrosion resistance. It’s designed to stand up to wet or salty conditions that would quickly wear out uncoated parts. The zinc finish also keeps the actuator looking clean and helps protect critical components from rust, making it a dependable choice for long-term use on drum brake trailers.

Smooth Braking Control: Hydraulic Drum Brake Design

This hydraulic surge actuator synchronizes your trailer brakes with your tow vehicle’s brakes for steady stopping power. When you slow down, the internal master cylinder pushes hydraulic pressure to your drum brakes for consistent braking across all wheels. The aluminum master cylinder resists corrosion better than cast steel versions, so you get smooth, reliable braking performance with less maintenance over time.

Easy Fit and Maintenance: Bolt-On Mounting with Greaseable Rollers

Installation is straightforward thanks to the bolt-on design that fits a 3" wide channel tongue with bolt holes 3" apart on center. The built-in rollers move on grease fittings, giving you smooth travel inside the actuator housing and extending service life. Dimensions of 16" long, 3.5" wide, and 5" tall keep the unit compact while still packing a 7,500-lb capacity and a 700-lb maximum tongue weight rating.

Safety Ready: Built-In Breakaway Kit

A breakaway kit is already included, providing an added layer of protection if your trailer ever separates from the tow vehicle. It automatically activates the brakes to bring the trailer to a stop. For backing up or steep inclines, you can add an optional electric lockout solenoid (sold separately) if you need reverse movement without engaging the brakes.

Great product. Kicking my butt for being cheap and not doing the disk conversion though. Works good. No issues after a year

by:

Alex was easy to work with and knew exactly what I needed. Received the parts yesterday and everything was there. 5 stars

by:

by:

Great product, great price and great customer service.

by:

Good replacement for Atwood. Haven't used it yet but I can say I have gone through 3 Atwood's. I can see why they went out of business

by:

Impressive customer service rarely encountered anymore. Thanks

by:

Had to move holes for safety chains other than that fit perfect

by:

Easy installation.
Proper braking.

by:

I did receive the Dexter actuator today but the package is damaged. The box is partially torn open and part of actuator is sticking out of the box. I haven’t opened the box yet but wanted to report it to you first as to what next steps you would like me to take?

by:

Fit perfect! Great replace the for Atwood discontinued surge brake drum coupler

by:

The actuator was just what I needed. Now just have to bleed the brakes. The lock will prevent anyone from driving off with my boat or trailer.

by:

Joanne was very helpful and communicated all activity on the order. Thanks

by:

This is a nice easy to use hitch. This is the 3rd one purchased for boat trailer hitch replacement. Really like the drop and go feature.

by:

Very nice hitch. Really like the drop and go part and works smoothly. Also like the large cap for checking brake fluid level and looks like it will last a long time (with proper use). Not like other hitch types that the cap and threads strip out due to corrosion.

by:

We haven't mounted the Dexter DX7.5 Drop-Go-Go Brake Actuator yet but looks to be good quality, received quickly well packed.

by:

The Drop and Go Brake Actuator was easy to install on my boat trailer and works great. Easy to follow instructions regarding the bleeding of the brakes. Noticeable difference over the old actuator which was on its last legs. After a year of use I am totally satisfied with its operation.

by:

Every time I use the brakes, the actuator slams loudly or "machine guns." I will not purchase a Dexter actuator again.

Honestly any drum brake actuator is not going to give a smooth braking experience. For smoother braking, changing over to a electric over hydraulic actuator and disc brakes would be the best option. It is going to be a more expensive option.

by:

It fit perfectly and was easy to install. Customer service was excellent.

@Dwight Happy to hear it!

I put this on an easy loader trailer that had an Atwood master cylinder which is now obsolete. Cutting the old actuator off was a real bitch. Installing the new Dexter actuator was very easy. I could bend the existing brake line 180 and hook it directly up without having to change the end. The bolts were easily available at the hardware store, I wish they would have came with it. The quality of the drop and go hitch is unbelievably easy to use.

The trailer is rarely used. but after a year, on braking, there was a banging noise from the hitch. It turns out this was from excessive travel on the brake shoes, because of improper adjustment after break-in. After proper brakeshoe adjustment the noise went away. All is working fine.

  • Looking For Surge Brake Actuator For Drum Brakes With Electric Lockout
Hello Darin, thanks for reaching out. I do have a solution for you. What I recommend is the Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator # 099-175-00. This is made for trailers with drum brakes, and it attaches to a 2" ball. It does not come with an electric lockout, but you can add one using the Lockout Solenoid # T4748800. That will add the electric lockout feature to your actuator.

  • What is the Best Surge Brake Actuator to Replace My Old Atwood Brake Actuator AT82543?
Hello Dennie, Thanks for writing in! The Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator # 099-175-00 would certainly be a great replacement for your Atwood actuator. Its main advantage is the Drop-N-Go coupler design, which automatically latches onto the hitch ball when lowered into place. However, you still need to lower the coupler onto the ball just as you would with a traditional coupler, so the difference is more about latch operation than a completely different hookup process. If it were...

  • Replacement Drum Brake Actuator for a 1995 4 Winns Model 3916 Trailer
Hey Richard, thanks for reaching out! The Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator # 099-175-00 is a great option for a replacement actuator because it's a direct replacement for the common Model 60 actuators that were popular in the '90s. I'm not exactly sure what model actuator your trailer came with but This one has the bolt holes measuring 3" apart on center and it fits a 3" wide channel tongue so if those specs match what you have then this will fit like a glove!

Andrew, if that's the case then you can use the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2R1258L12 to add brakes to your Big Tex trailer. This kit comes with everything needed to add brakes, will work with 12K axles, and has a 8 on 6 1/2 bolt pattern. ] The last thing you'd need is the Hydrastar Electric-Hydraulic Actuator w/ Line Kit for Disc Brakes # CAR-HBA16-2 which includes the actuator and brake lines to actually active the brakes.

In regards to differences, Demco makes a wide range of different trailer and towing products whereas Titan specializes more in trailer brakes. Hello Todd, thanks for reaching out. I do have an option for you, but a direct replacement for the TDE LP70 actuator is not available. Our best option for replacing it is the Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator - Disc Brakes # 099-175-20. This is a bolt-on actuator with the bolt holes 3" apart on center and it fits a 3" wide tongue. The design of this actuator is for it to sit on top of the trailer tongue as opposed to inside the trailer tongue like your current model.
