If you have a Swagman bike rack with the threaded shank, this is the lock you want! This lock is designed specifically for Swagman racks to prevent theft and the somewhat annoying sway that you might experience from time to time towing your rack.The product did not come with instructions. The videos at the manufacturer's site gave no instructions on installation. A video from a competitor explained how to install it. It can only be installed from the right side, that is the passenger side. A left-handed person, such as me, will naturally insert it from the left side. I did that repeatedly and of course it failed. Yes, I realize the world is right handed but a simple sentence saying it must be inserted from the right and not the left wouldn't take that much effort by the company. The same complaint applies to the bicycle rack itself.
A must have for the Swagman XTC-4 bike rack. Sure, I want to protect my bikes but I needed something that would protect my $200+ bike rack, too. You need a wrench to tighten the bolt, which does a good job of keeping the rack from rattling but is a pain because you always need to have a wrench around. But that's not the fault of the lock. The lock is pretty neat in that you can rotate the key hole so it's covered up to keep mud and weather out. I'd buy it again if needed and the price here at etrailer.com was good.
Great product. Fit bike rack / trailer hitch just as stated. So glad I found it online.
The replacement lock has worked well. The original lock that came with the bike rack failed because the chrome plating came off the bolt and stripped out the threads when removing the hitch pin. I did add curt anti rattle hitch clamp.
Installed both items within 15 minutes and am quite pleased with the results. A thunderstorm rolled through, as evidenced by the pictures, so I was unable to utilize the rack. I plan on riding the Ghost Town Trail tomorrow along with a friend. I rate these items with Five Stars !
This product works just as advertised. It fit my bike rack perfectly and is easy to use. Of course it is brand new, but I have no reason to think it will not last for many years.
No fault to The lock it looks to be a good product but it is a 5/8" bolt and the swingman xc2 bike rack it was associated with takes a 1/2" bolt. I'm more disappointed with the sight linking these items together making it look like it will work together. Looking back at the rack details it does not have any notes saying it takes a 1/2" bolt so how would I know? Now I have to return the lock because I have no use for it.
solid bolt and lock assembly arrived early, well pkg'd. Exactly as advertised and the short video also helpful since original swagman bolt slightly different (uses cotter-pin instead of lock). Suggest to use a bit of grease for first time use. Locking washer added bonus. Key assembly smart design with default with having key stay with lock when lock is not on bolt.

fine except plastic cover to key fell off, not easy to put back on, does not affect functionality, may eventually corrode?
Just received lock. Works great with the Swagman standup bike rack
with the 2" receiver. This lock was specifically recommended to me by
Swagman and is design for their 2" receiver.

Still works great. Very satisfied.
Extremely difficult to align pin in receiver such that you can screw in the hitch pin. Besides-an identical one COMES WITH A SWAGMAN RACK SO DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A SECOND ONE! etrailer.com recommends this as an accessory, but is COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY! etrailer.com will also charge you for return shipping! What a ripoff!

The lock is listed in the Replacement Parts section on the product page. That way if an XTC4 owner loses a lock, they can come back to the product page and quickly find a link to the replacement lock.We list what is include with each rack in the product description.
This came taped to my hitch in the blister pack. It screwed into the receiver and hitch extension very smoothly and holds the extension tight to prevent rattles. Good product.

I received the Locking, Threaded Hitch Pin and installed it without any problems. The Swagman Bike Rack I purchased earlier came with the Anti-Rattle Threaded Hitch Pin, but without the Lock. The Swagman company rep that I spoke to said that the lock wasn't necessary, but it gave me peace of mind to have a lock on the Threaded Hitch Pin to prevent it from being jarred loose. Also, it makes it more theft resistant. I would rather have saved the money and gotten the locking mechanism without the threaded hitch pin, since I had this already piece, but it might be beneficial for some people.
The lock itself seems to work well. It goes on without the key; you just need to push it on. The key is required to remove it.
The threaded hitch pin does keep the bike rack from wobbling around. I tried to use a regular hitch pin, but that didn't work well at all since the 2" hitch seems smaller than my 2" receiver, so there is a lot of play in it. But with the threaded hitch pin it seems to work well. The one catch is that you need a wrench or socket set to install it or to uninstall it.
Overall, I am very happy with my purchase. I think that Swagman should include this with their racks, though. Also, it would be nice if the key for the lock used the same key as the bike rack so that you wouldn't need two separate keys.
Lisa in Customer Service was so very helpful. She noticed that in my Swagman bike rack review I needed a locking hitch pin and pointed me in the correct direction with the correct Swagman pin on E-trailer. I tried, like most, to purchase a cheap lookalike at my local hardware/superstore store. Had to take it back and contacted Lisa to send me the correct part. She did so at a very reasonable shipping cost.
Very happy with the Swagman hitch pin and the bike rack!!
Second somewhat large purchase from E-Trailer and both have been good quality and great service.

One year later and still working great!
This lock is the best, it works just as the ad says, it fits perfect and you feel your bike rack will be there when you come back and no noise when driving so I would say this lock is well worth the investment, thanks again etrailer RS
Locking anti-rattle, threaded hitch pin was the correct item to buy. We heard no rattle while driving and stopped twice in our 4 hour trip to check the bikes. Everything was just as tight and sturdy as when we started our trip. Highly recommend this product.
Already purchased one several years ago for our Swagman bike rack to lock it on our SUV trailer hitch, so I bought another one to have on hand in our RV.
I received this product in just a few days. It was exactly what I was looking for. I have a Swagman Bike Rack which uses a screw tightening hitch pin. In order to deter theft of my bike rack this specific hitch pin has a locking feature. The products appears to a good fit and good design. I hope to have years of use.
This bike carrier lock by Swagman is ideal. Chrome plated to resist rusting is very nice. The way the lock works is also outstanding, provides a nice cover over the key hole to keep the elements out.
This lock replaces the exact original one that came with my Swagman carrier that I lost by my own stupidity.

Love the locking mechanism for my bike rack! I have been holding off on bringing my bikes on trailer trips for fear of theft, but this will do the trick perfectly. Once again, e-trailer has come through with a terrific product managed by the best customer service staff around.
Just mounted on my camper, seems solid. A bit odd that the lock piece does not mount tight to the hitch it is just a lock NOT a retainer although the threads seem to take care of that....I may add a hole for a pin.
Use with Swagman 2 bike Traveler rack on my Tacoma. Easily holds my XL frame cross bike and my wifes smaller mountain bike. NO rattles and locks in securly, easy open
This bolt operates smoothly and as advertised. Nice to be able to lock your hitch and not worry it will be there when you return. I don't know if they make one in 4" OAL but I am going to ask. It would be handy to have one of each. Thanks again Renee.

Great question. We don’t use the rack a lot, but it still is working like new after a year. More companies should seek feedback long term. After all, isn’t that the measure of a quality product?
