Availability Of Replacement Breakaway Cable For A TDE LP8000 Actuator

Updated 02/17/2026 | Published 06/22/2024

Question:

I had an issue with my boat trailer last weekend. Trailer wasnt seated on the ball, and it popped off while we were driving. The brake cable snapped off in the process, and I need to fix it. I took a couple of pictures of the model number, and it is a TDE LP8000. I cant seem to find any replacement parts for Tie Down Engineering, and I was wondering if there were any suggestions that you can make for this. Can you help me? Is it just a cable or will I need other parts, too? Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Nick, thanks for reaching out. The TDE LP8000 is an older actuator model that is no longer available. TDE was bought out by Dexter several years ago. The Dexter # 099-175-00 and # 099-175-20 actuators have the same design but they don't have a replacement breakaway cable for these either. Unfortunately, this means the only way to replace your broken cable is to get a new actuator

Hey Nick, did you end up replacing your old TDE LP8000 with one of the Dexter actuators? Knowing how the swap went could help others dealing with the same issue on older boat trailers.
