Features to know about

Smooth Braking Performance: Hydraulic Actuation for Drum Brakes

Ever experienced that unnerving jolt when your trailer brakes don't sync up with your towing vehicle? The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator is crafted specifically for hydraulic drum brakes, seamlessly activating your trailer's brakes as your vehicle decelerates for a smooth, controlled stop every time.

Rust-Free Durability: Aluminum Master Cylinder and Zinc Plating

Worried about corrosion shortening the life of your brake actuator? The Dexter DX7.5L features an aluminum master cylinder, which resists corrosion better than traditional cast steel, paired with zinc plating for maximum durability against harsh weather or saltwater environments.

Effortless Connection: Over-Center Latch Mechanism

Tired of struggling with frustrating coupler connections? The low-profile, over-center latch on this actuator simplifies hookup, only engaging when fully seated on a 2" hitch ball, ensuring a safe, secure connection without the hassle.

Versatile and Adaptable: Bolt-On Installation for Varied Applications

Got diverse trailers in your fleet? This bolt-on actuator supports load capacities up to 7,500 lbs and is compatible with a 3" x 4" straight tongue, making it ideal for agricultural, construction, marine, travel, and utility trailers.

Seamless Reversing: Free-backing Brake Compatibility

Reverse maneuvers shouldn’t be difficult! Though there's no reverse lockout, pairing this actuator with free-backing brakes allows for smooth reversing motion without triggering the brakes, making handling tight spots or parking stress-free.

Tailored Precision: Custom Fit with Various Configurations

Need a custom brake setup? Dexter’s innovative inner-member and outer-member design allows you to tailor your braking system to a wide range of applications, providing manufacturers and users with flexibility and adaptability for any trailer needs.

It is the right part and I got it fast thank you

by:

Was the right part, delivered quickly, and price was fair.

by:

I ordered this surge brake hitch without the back up solenoid. Due to supply chain problems it was going to take 3 months to ship. Upon receiving it far ahead of schedule it had the solenoid included at no extra charge meaning that someone at etrailer expedited my order and kept me happy at etrailers expense. How can you top that for service?

by:

Good quality product.

by:

I’m very satisfied. I always check out etrailer for all my trailer needs and this time was no different. In under 2 hours by myself I changed out the old with the new ( pictures) and ready to bleed the brakes. I always let people know to contact etrailer with there needs. Thanks

by:

Shipping was very quick, received it a couple days after I ordered it.

  • Recommended Replacement Drums and Brakes for an AL-KO 7230 Hub
Hey Alex, thanks for finding that info that helps a lot! So to replace those hubs you can use the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-545-35-K. To replace the brake assemblies, you can use the etrailer Electric Trailer Brakes # AKEBRK-35-SA. Finally for a surge brake actuator, you can use the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX27FR. This actuator will work with drum brakes, has a 7.5k capacity, and will bolt on to a 3" x 4" trailer tongue. If there is anything else I can help you...

  • What Size and Grade Mounting Hardware for the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout
The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout part # DX29FR for disc brakes and part # DX27FR for drum brakes use 1/2" diameter mounting hardware. We have used both grade 5 and grade 8 bolts when doing installations of them but the grade 5 are sufficient. There is very little force actually applied to the bolts other than side pull.

  • Availability of Master Cylinder for Reliable MC-001M Surge Brake Actuator
Hi Nick; we do not carry parts for the Reliable MC-001M and as far as I know those parts are all long gone. The best I can offer is a replacement actuator like the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX27FR for drum brakes or the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator with Electric Lockout # DX29FR for disc brakes.

  • Replacement for Dexter A-60 Brake Actuator
Hi Joshua; you can respond to the email that had the link for this page if you want to send me the video. It does sound like it is the actuator, could be the shock in there or the master cylinder. It would also be worth checking to see if the brake fluid is low. For a replacement you can use the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX83FR for drum or # DX56FR for disc brakes. Both are designed for a 3" x 5" tongue. For a 3" x 4" tongue use # DX27FR for drum or # DX29FR...

  • Can The A-60 Actuator Be Used For Tandem Axles With Drum Brakes?
Hello Matt, thanks for reaching out. There are different models of the Dexter A-60 actuator. All will work with a tandem axle setup, but they make them for drum and disc brakes, so it depends which model you have. For example, the Dexter A-60 part # DX56FR is for disc brakes, while part # DX27FR is for drum. The disc brake version operates at a higher PSI than the drum version. If you can share the model number on your actuator, I can tell you what kind of brakes it will work with. Leave...

Hey Paul, thanks for reaching out! I saw you purchased the following: - Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-247-50UC3 - Hydraulic Brake Kit # AKFBBRK-35-D - Kodiak Hydraulic Brake Line Kit # 18SI-BLKIT - Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX27FR Those parts will all work great with each other and provide you with the braking you had asked about. The only downside to equipping brakes on one of the axles (as opposed to both) is less braking power, but there are a lot of people...

The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator - Bolt On - Drum - 2" Ball - Zinc - 7,500 lbs # DX27FR is the correct one for you. • Replacement Solution for Fulton Swing Away A60 Drum Brake Actuator
For a replacement I recommend the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX27FR. The swing-away actuators like your old A60 have been discontinued, along with replacement parts, so this is the best solution. This features a 7,500 lb trailer capacity, bolt-on installation, and is designed for trailers with drum brakes. • How to Find Correct Replacement Hydraulic Surge Brake Actuator for Trailer
In order to find out what you need for a replacement actuator you will want to start by finding out what kind of brakes you have. A different brake actuator is needed if you have drum brakes or disc brakes. You will also want to choose a replacement that meets or exceeds the weight of your trailer and probably one that fits the same size ball your current coupler has. Occasionally you may be able to pull a part number off of your current actuator to see if a direct replacement is available. Assuming...

  • Is Dexter DX7.5 Trailer Brake Actuating Coupler DX27FR a Replacement for UFP A-70
The Dexter # DX27FR would make a good replacement for trailers weighing less than 7500 lbs. The coupler is compatible with a 2 inch trailer ball, so if your trailer meets those criteria, the # DX27FR would be an excellent choice. UFP is now owned by Dexter, so other than the design of the coupler latch, it's the same actuator. You can see a product description video by clicking the provided link.

  • Do you Recommend a Weld on or Bolt On Surge Brake Actuator
I prefer the bolt on actuators. The reason is that just like the position you're in to replace it you have to cut it off. With a bolt on you just take it off and put a new one on. The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator part # DX27FR is rated for up to 7,500 lbs. so it will be more than strong enough to handle your boat when installed per the instructions. Don't forget to bleed the brakes when you've completed your install to get the best possible performance.

We have the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX29FR for disc brakes and the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX27FR for drum brakes. These will have similar bolt patterns as the Tie Down Engineering LP7000 actuators we have have seen in the past. They are designed to fit a 3" wide by 4" tall trailer tongue. • Recommendation For Flushing Dirty Brake Fluid From Surge Brakes On Trailer
Yes, you will want to flush out all your old dirty brake fluid from your lines and master cylinder. You can use the Hand Vacuum Pump Brake Bleeder # PTW87030 to do this but in my experience I find it best to use the manual method using the 2x4 to be the best way to quickly push out the old fluid. A Bleeder # ALL648591 makes it possible to do the flush without a 2nd person.

This is an excellent question Brad. • Does the Dexter DX27FR Use the Same Inner Member as the DX83FR
Yes, you can use the inner member from the # DX27FR and the # DX83FR interchangeably. Although they are designed to fit different trailer tongue sizes, they both use the same inner member # DX97FR. You could either purchase the inner member separately or if you want an extra/new housing the # DX27FR fits a 3" x 4" straight tongue and the # DX83FR fits a 3" x 5" straight tongue.
