Video Transcript for Titan Brake Actuators with Reverse Lockout Replacement Solenoid Valve Installation

Today, we're going to take a look at the Titan replacement solenoid valve for Titan brake actuators with reverse lockouts. Part number is T4748800. Now, between our actuator and the line that provides fluid to our calipers, we're doing an electric lockout. Basically, this is going to be connected to ground on one side, we'll show you how to do that, and to your reverse wire coming from your seven-pole or five-pole, six-pole, whatever you've got. On the other side, it's going to act as a solenoid. As your vehicles backing up, it's going to cut off that pressure, or that brake fluid from locking up the brakes.

Basically, this is important when you're backing up a hill and you want to be able to have your trailer wheels turn freely. This prevents that pressure from being sent back. Otherwise, when you started to back up a Hill, as the actuator gets compressed, it's going to apply the brakes. It's going to make it difficult to back up.Now, the solenoid is designed to replace the thread adapter that we have here on the back of the actuators. We're going to use a half inch wrench, and we're going to get that removed.

Basically, the actuator is designed to work with or without an electric lockout. By taking this out, we'll be able to thread this in. That way it'll be set up for that lockout procedure when we hit reverse. We want to get that secured to our actuator. Going to use that big nut there.

It's a 15/16 inch wrench.Now, we'll take the flexible brake line hose. You'll have a shorter one from your kit. Remember, we've lengthened ours a little bit just to make up for the length of the tongue. We're going to get that secured down. Now, as you start it, also hold this one with a wrench, that way we don't have to worry about this turning on us.

For this, you want to use a 9/16 and then for this, we're going to stay with a 3/8. Now, for the wiring side, I'm going to extend one of the wires slightly. It really doesn't matter which one. I'm going to use a piece of 16 gauge wire. This is going to allow us to get it to the reverse signal on the plug coming from our truck. To connect the two together, I'm going to use a heat shrink butt connector. Part number is DW05744. If you don't have wire, that part number is 16-1-1. Get that crimped down.Now, we're going to use a heat source to get this shrank. You can use a heat gun, you can use a mini torch or just a lighter. The key is not to overheat it. Just want to give it some gentle heat. You can see it start to shrink down just like that. Now, once it's fully shrank, you notice the wire looks like it's much bigger, and then there's just a little clear gel that comes out of the end. Now, the other wire will act as our ground, so we're going to strip that back. I always like to twist the wires, give it something good to hold on to. Then we're going to place on a ring terminal. Going to crimp that down and we just have to attach this to the tongue, so when we hit reverse, the signal comes through here. The solenoid is going to close, not allowing the fluid to pass by. Then because we've got it grounded out, it's going to work for us.I'm going to place that right here, so it still will be accessible, but as we slide this back, most of that wiring will go inside there. We use a number 12 self-tapping screw to make that connection, just like that. Got our connections made. Now it's just slide the actuator back and get our bolts put in. With those through, we're going to place a couple of nylon lock nuts on the other side. It seems like the four-inch bolts really work out well and give us just enough bolt link there to get those nylon threads engaged, get everything nice and secure. Now, with half-inch bolts, you'll use a 3/4 inch or a 19 millimeter wrench and socket. They're the same size. Now, we'll get our bolts torqued down and that's going to complete our look at the replacement solenoid valve for the Titan brake actuators with the reverse lockout, part number T4748800.

I replaced my old surge brake actuator with a Titan 60ZX700, and back up solenoid about 4 years. I noticed the brakes were not working this past spring and figured the old brake lines were most likely corroded so I replaced them over the summer. Still no brake fluid getting to the wheel cylinders. Troubleshot this to the reverse lockout solenoid not allowing anything with or without the required voltage for it to lock out. The eTrailer team helped to verify the problem and assisted to order the correct replacement to ensure what I ordered would work out of the box. I replaced it and wired it in to reverse tail lamp and ground, which solved the problem and I have brakes again. My only complaint would be that regardless of the assumed ease to install it, there really should be some installation instructions provided with the product. My situation was pull and replace, and to be safe I rewired it anyway. Watched videos on the proper way to install it, but I really should not have had to figure it out on my own.


Compact size and no return line unlike other lockout solenoid I had to replace before.


A have to have on a heavy surge brake trailer. Its good that etrailer keeps them in stock. They don't give a problem but do get damage from heavy use and hard work over a period of time.

Great delivery amd easy question, can you tell me what the anp draw is for the solenoid? Reason being the original solenoid failure blew the vehicle trailer light module and I want to fuse that line at the trailer.stupidly that line is not fused in my 2021 chevy pickup.thank you.

We have had the amperage question asked in the past. This solenoid draws 8 watts or 0.66 of an amp. If you have had blown fuses, then we recommend checking the trailer wiring for any damage and making sure all the grounds are connected to bare metal.

No issues what so ever with etrailer. On time, exactly what I ordered. A side note; I installed the reverse brake solenoid check valve myself. There were no instructions, but it should be pretty easy for someone with basic mechanical skills to install. Had to make up a special cover to prevent the extended brake line tube from getting bent when stepping across the trailer hitch.
Bleading the brakes can be a little tricky if a person hasn't done that before.

I have one suggestion
to the shipping dept. at trailer:
DON'T put small items in the same craft paper that is used to fill voids in the shipping box. When I opened my box I pulled out the big bunch of craft paper and set it aside to pitch. I pulled out the bigger brake parts and then realized that i was missing two smaller items. At first I thought maybe they were back ordered. I checked the shipping paper and they were to be in this box. After going thru the craft paper I was going to pitch I found them inside. Close Call!!!
Put the small items in a small box or envelope.

This review is not intended to persuade you to buy or not buy this solenoid. If you need one, you have to have it. But I will caution you based on my experience to be careful with it. The device has 1" wrench flats to secure it, but only an 1/8" pipe threaded nipple that is unreinforced, soft brass going into the master cylinder. My coupler has guide pins out the rear that prevent a 1" wrench from fitting around the solenoid properly. So I tried to tighten the thing at an angle and of course accomplished little other than to prove how fragile the thing is and break it right off. I'm not impressed with the design, but that's how they made it. My solution is to extend a short pipe out of the master cylinder to clear the pins and be much more careful assembling it next time. It isn't for heavy hands.



I couldnt agree more. The 18 nipple is practically designed to fail. The first broke upon installation so I had to immediately order a replacement. The 2nd one survived for close to a year but just snapped off at the same point. There also appears to be slight corrosion where it broke off. I have the weather protector cover which seems to imply the solinoid itself isnt weather-rated but it is ineffective against road spray or stormy weather. Unfortunately, the solenoid is a required part for my installation but Id sure avoid this part if I could. I just ordered my 3rd one.

I noticed that this solenoid valve was purchased long with a Demco actuator. This valve is designed to be used with Dexter Model 6, Model 60, Aero 7500, and newer Model 10 and Model 20 actuators. The solenoid valve for the Demco would be part # DM05561D which works with Demco models DA10, DA20, or DA91.


I changed over to disc brakes and needed the control valve it worked perfectly, install was easy did not need any adapters. One end is for the master cylinder the other for the brake line. Also liked the separate wire for grounding directly to the trailer frame.


Fit perfectly and works great. Type of delivery method needs to be more clear. UPS w/USPS is different from UPS. We had to fight with the post office to get because we have no mail delivery at our house but we do get UPS FEDEX. The Post Office said they should be sending it back because we are not allowed to intercept mail. But we talked them into giving it to us, Thank heavens for the tracking number.



The valve is working just fine. But we still have problems with shippers sending our purchase with the upsusps final delivery method since we have no mail delivery. But we do have direct ups delivery or Fedex delivery. You should differentiate these in the shipping choices. We will order things again.


This isn't necessarily a product review. It's a simple switch and it solved my problem. But I would rather comment about customer satisfaction.
Website was easy to navigate but more so than that was calling the the company. Calls were promptly answered, no question was to stupid and they emailed the answer about the product information in case you didn't make decision right at that point.
I have purchased a couple of items from e-trailer and have been very satisfied.
If you have a trailer, or any of the many other products they offer, I think you will be happy with choosing this company.

One year later of salt water use and the trailer brakes still work great.


So far so good. The customer service was excellent. They helped me through the process of product selection with ease and a sense of humor. Much better than the local shops here in Anchorage. I'm not mechanical in any sense so I found the online installation videos to extremely easy to follow. I ended up replacing all the brake lines, the master cylinder and the actuator. It was easy but I did it with help of the videos and a few phone calls to customer service who talked me off the ledge. The calipers will be replaced this year and I'm hoping for similar results. I'll keep you posted and thanks again. Great products, CS and online help.

I had to have the master cylinder on my boat trailer's surge brakes replaced and the service station's supplier said that he did not have the needed reverse lockout solenoid valve in stock and couldn't get one for the near future. I looked on the internet and found what was needed at etrailer. It was available and I ordered it. I received it in a few days and took it to the repair shop. The tech who installed it was pleased to get it quickly and also stated it was less than half what his supplier's price was.


I have purchased items previously from E trailer and all have worked well.
This was the exception. It lasted less than 1 year. used trailer at the most 6 times.
The solenoid "clicks" as it should but doesn't stop the fluid. the brakes lock up when
backing. I called E trailer to check on the warranty. He informed me that it was for
only 30 days and asked me if I would like to purchase another. I declined. I'll have to
get a better one from somewhere else.


I bought 2 of these and they did not last a year. not sure why , but after some time they close shut and disable your brakes on the trailer (with no power to it). I am assuming that the brake fluid destroy the moving parts inside, all though it is very funny as the solenoid should be "Fail Open", meaning that it should remain open when no electricity is applied or it breaks. I'm looking for some sort of a manual replacement that I can close only for backing up manually. Very disappointed.


Works great but I feel like they should be included in the actuator because without it you can't go reverse they should make a whole week for the both or something in there to go to reverse without this solenoid your dad

    The Atwood brake actuators appear to use a different type of electric lockout that works differently than Titan solenoid # T4748800. The Titan solenoid blocks the flow of fluid when energized whereas the Atwood ones bypass the fluid back into the master cylinder.     The issue is that with the way a surge coupler works when backing up, normally up hill, the trailer is pushing the other way which will cause the actuator to compress in sending fluid back to engage the brakes.
