Features to know about

Built for Harsh Marine and Coastal Use: Dacromet Rust-Resistant Coating

Saltwater and road salt can destroy standard brakes fast. These 12" x 2" etrailer electric drum brakes use a Dacromet coating rated for 700 hours in continuous salt spray testing, making them a solid choice for boat or coastal trailers. The corrosion-resistant finish protects the backing plates and hardware from rust so you can keep towing in wet or salty environments with confidence.

Smooth, Consistent Stops: Automotive-Grade Bonded Brake Pads

These assemblies use automotive-grade friction material that’s fully bonded to the shoes instead of riveted. That means quieter operation, no screeching from worn rivets, and more pad surface area for stronger braking torque. The tapered edges help cut down on chatter and lockup, giving you smooth, predictable control every time you hit the brakes.

Close-up of etrailer Dacromet-coated electric trailer brake assembly showing tapered automotive-grade brake pads and corrosion-resistant finish.

Easy Electric Setup: Direct Connection with Simple Manual Adjustment

Hooking these up is straightforward—just connect the two wires and mount with bolts (sold separately). You’ll only need an electric brake controller since there are no hydraulic lines or actuators to deal with. The manual adjusters let you fine-tune brake shoe clearance quickly through the backing plate ports to keep stopping distances consistent as the pads wear.

Ready for Heavy-Duty Loads: 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb Axle Rating

Each set includes both left-hand (driver’s side) and right-hand (passenger’s side) assemblies built for standard 5-bolt mounting flanges. They fit 14-1/2", 15", 16", and 16-1/2" wheels on 5,200-lb, 6,000-lb, and 7,000-lb axles. With CSA, QAI, and SAE-N certifications, these brakes meet rigorous performance standards for safety and reliability under load.

2020 Chevrolet Traverse
I needed to upgrade my boat trailer from free-wheeling spindles to electric brakes because my new tow vehicle has a 5,000 pound tow rating only if the trailer has brakes. The brakes will be immersed only in fresh water but I chose the brake kit with Dacromet coating just to assure maximum protection from rust and corrosion. After removing the original spindles and cleaning the old grease from the axle I installed the new brake assemblies. They fit perfectly and seem to be of solid construction. Without the self adjusting mechanism it keeps these brakes assemblies very simple and making a manual adjustment periodically is no problem. I am pleased with the quality of this product.

These brake assemblies are working perfectly. After one year there is no rust or corrosion. Brake shoe wear is nominal. They require adjustment every 200 miles or so two round trips to the lake in order to maintain smooth operation.

The parts appear to be good but how they were packaged and shipped was very poor. They were in the bottom of the box with little to know packing material around them. There appeared to be some minor scuffs and marks but nothing seemed to be broken.
by:
Excellent pieces, Have had zero issues with 4 of them on my tandem axle boat trailer and they work the way they should. huge upgrade from the quirky surge brakes they replace.

UPS lost one brake drum. I called customer service. Another drum was shipped within the hour of my call. Go SEABEES !!

After replacing the trailer brake (OEM) with these brakes I can tell a difference when braking. I'm now getting shorter braking distances with them and I feel safer using them. Thanks

After a year of service these brakes are still doing what they were made to do. Glad to have gotten them when I did.

Replaced all the brakes on my horse trailer. product works fine with no problems. My only complaint is that when assembled no lubricant was applied to the points on the backing plate where the brake shoes rest. This required removing the brake shoes and remounting them before installing them.

I've used etrailer for many purchases over the years so nothing new there. Usually never have a problem with my orders, but this time there was an issue with backordered parts. I contacted etrailer via email and got a response very quickly from Tiffany J. She was so helpful with cancelling the backordered parts and then emailed back later telling me there were more items backordered but made suggestions to replace them with less expensive parts to get my order moving!! I thought that was super cool and helpful, saving me time and frustration. Shipped my order and got it a couple days later, well packaged and intact. Not to mention their prices and shipping is on par or better than other online retailers and others.Thank you etrailer and Tiffany J. for your help and great business ethics!
by:
Brakes arrived fast. A mechanic friend of mine installed the brakes. Tested the brakes a few days later and they seemed to work fine. After one camping trip I traded for a new 5th wheel so don't know how they are performing for the new owners. BUT I was happy for the short time I used them. Thanks etrailer.
by:
theyare great, already installed one!
by:
The electric trailer brake assemblies appear to be well made and fit perfectly. Delivery was great and actually arrived a day earlier than expected, which helped me a lot. I was concerned about the packaging with the heavy items only wrapped in paper and loose in a large box. Fortunately, there did not appear to be any damage or missing parts. So far I am very happy with the brakes and hope the last a long time.
by:
I was very pleased with the expert and friendly guidance that I received when purchasing the trailer brakes and suspension components. The staff was thorough in ensuring I had the correct components for the weight and use of my trailer.
by:
Parts arrived n a timely fashion and look to be correct for my application, (I have not installed them yet.

The packaging was completely torn up and looks to have been taped back up by UPS.
There was nothing inside the package with the backing plates to keep them from sliding around inside the box. there were slight scratches in the finish but nothing that would affect their performance.

I am only giving a 4 star rating due to the poor quality of packaging. If the product had been fragile I question as to whether it would have arrived undamaged...
by:
I actually wanted the self adjusting brakes but they weren’t in stock. Needed them quickly so I got these since they were in stock. Shipping was very fast but one brake came missing the adjusting star nut. Thankfully, I was able to use one off one of the old brakes. Installation was easy as I’ve done this before on another RV. I will continue to shop here. Customer service is great and very helpful!

One backing plate brake assembly. had the adjuster laying in the box. There was no packing between the 4 backing plate assembleys. I am very dissapointed with the quality of your packaging. I will not buy again from etrailer!

Ordered my electric brake kit from etrailer and came in mail on time 3 days and I fit just like a glove great products and a great company I would recommend them to anyone thanks etrailer
by:
Exactly what I needed. Required no modification for the Wells Cargo trailer I was working on.
by:
They seem like decent brakes They should have definitely been greased and lubricated where they needed to be. I was also expecting a little bit better packaging. When I received the brakes one of them fell apart during shipment and I had to put them back together. The cardboard paper didn't work so well. Other than that no big disappointment.
by:
Great Product & Customer Service! This Has Been An Easy Process From Beginning To End. Product Arrived During Its Scheduled Delivery. Installation Was As Expected.
by:
Put these on both axels on my equipment trailer and they work perfectly after 1 year.
by:

Have had the brakes installed on my trailer for a year and so far all systens are a go, and when I say go, it’s all about stopping. I use my trailer and it is exposed to extreme salt conditions. Every few years the brakes and shoes are replaced for safety.

  • Replacement Hubs And Brake Assemblies For A 2006 Colorado 5th Wheel
Hello David, I can definitely point you in the right direction. The Lippert 5,200 lb axles will use the standard 12" x 2" brake assemblies. For that I recommend the etrailer Rust-Resistant Electric Trailer Brakes # AKEBRK-7-D. This comes with a pair of Dacromet coasted electric brake assemblies. As far as the hubs, it is not quite so cut and dry. The 5,200 lb axles generally use a # 25580 inner bearing and a # 15123 outer bearing. Given that your axle is almost 20 years old, it may not...

Hey David, thanks for reaching out again! I definitely hear where you're coming from and I don't blame you for not trusting your 4,400 lb axles. Whenever I've looked into parts for them everything seems to be a hodge-podge of pieces fitted together just to say something is rated for that 4,400 lbs. With that being said, since you have a unique spring center measurement you will either need to special order an axle or you can use a Timbren system like the Axle-Less # ASR5200S01 rated for...

I have another option for you, but the only hub and drum assemblies available with the 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern are only rated for wheels up to 16-1/2" diameter and are not designed to work with 17" wheels. Starting with the axle for your M105 Military Trailer that you are doing an overland conversion on I recommend going with the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System - 2" Lift Spindle w/ Brake Flange - 5,200 lbs # TASR5200S05 or the 4" lift version # TASR5200S03. Both of these...

Hey Jon, For the hub and drum assembly we do have a galvanized option, but none that are pre greased.
