Video Transcript for Swagman RV and Motorhome Ladder Mount 2 Bike Rack Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Swagman RV and motorhome ladder mounted two bike rack, part number is S80630. Our Swagman RV or motorhome ladder mounted bike rack is a great solution for getting your bikes where you need to go when you're traveling in your motorhome. It's an all aluminum construction, so it's going to be very corrosion resistant for you. The pads are fully adjustable. These will go up and down, going to help it fit a wide variety of ladder sizes with the different rung lengths in between, we can easily adjust those up and down. As you can see, all the weight of the bikes are going to be supported by these two sturdy hooks here on the top that are going to go around the rung of the ladder. They're designed in such a way that you really have to have the bike rack up on pretty steep angle to get them off, so I'm not going to really have any worry of them coming off. Designed to fit the round, the oval shape, the more squared off shape, so a lot of different applications that it's going to fit.

They've got a good coating on it that's going to protect our ladder rungs from any scratches or any scuffs. The cradles or cratons, have deep grooves in them here. That's going to help accept any of our bike cables. They're flexible so a wide variety of frame sizes is going to fit in there. Then we've got a good flexible rubber strap there that's going to come around the down tube of our seat and really secure our bikes to our rack. The end of each of our dual arms, we have a reflector, it's going to help us stay visible and keep people from, you know, potentially running into it.

With the dual arm design, it's really going to stabilize your bike as it's riding, rather than like a single post design would allow it to rock back and forth. With the three cross braces that go on the rack, really gives it a nice stiff feel, that's a good tight frame feel. As you can see, around our middle brace here, we do have a strap that's going to come down around the rung of our ladder. The strap's provided. That's used just to put down force on it, keep our rack from moving up and down or side to side. Then the excess of the tag end, we're actually going to use that around the frame of our bike to secure it in place.

Now we're going to get our bike loaded up. The first step's going to be to undo the cradle straps, expose those cradles, and we'll lift the rear tire of our bike up, we'll slide our bike right on down, adjust your pedals. You don't want them to come into contact with your ladder. Then just let that down tube of the seat slide right into the top. We're going to bring our straps around. We'll just secure them here on the other side to hold our bike in place.

Get the one on the front, or the one down here towards the bottom, the one on the top. As you can see, we've mounted our bike with our wheels facing inward. That's going to keep them from hanging over past the edge of our RV. The seat and handle bars are tucked in nicely. We'll now just bring our excess tag end of our strap there, bring it around our bike, and secure it here in the back side. Another great feature that we have and can really allow us to get several sizes of bikes on here, are the fully adjustable cradles. As you can see, we're going to be able to move these in and out to accommodate our different bike sizes. As you can see here, we've got our second bike loaded up. We are going to have a second cam buckle strap. This should go around the frame of our bike, around our bike rack and also around the ladder. We want to get full security there. It's also good because it's going to go around our other bike too. Bring this right out here. The strap's a good length, you're actually going to be able to go around your rim of your bike too there, to keep it from moving around as you're traveling. Pull that up, secure our excess strap and we're ready to head down the road. That will complete today's look at the Swagman RV and motorhome ladder mounted two bike rack, part number S80630. .

Just assembled product easy, and appears very solid in construction, give it a test drive this weekend. I like the design because it is not permanent to the ladder and will accommodate various ladder designs 186487

Ok, well built for light bikes, do not recommend for heavier bikes

The product ordered shipped within 24 hours and arrived in a timely fashion. The product arrived in excellent condition and was very easy to assembly. 6 screws with a provided Allen key and you were done. The product easily attached to my RV ladder as advertised. Although assembly was obvious to me, I did note was the instructions were not provided in English. This is the first time I have ever experienced the lack of English instructions when they were provided in other languages. 21713

There are many options available for transporting a pair of bikes. After researching the products I decided this particular RV Ladder Rack would be best for my bikes and Motorhome. It was also, one of the best priced options. The cushion pads are necessary to protect my exisiting rear mounted RV ladder. The sturdy rubber brackets for the bike frame are necessary to secure the bikes. Other similar products are lacking these two features. Unfortunately, the bikes must be mounted in a vertical position. On both mountain bikes, 21 speed, the gear components interfered with securing the frame to the attached brackets. It is difficult to lift the bike and get the bike's cross frame on the brackets. To prevent potential damage to the Motorhome I found it necessary to remove the bike's front tire in order to secure the handle bar so it would not bang into the Motorhome's right tail light. Bottomline, I'm only able to mount one of the two 21 speed bikes on this rack. It is just as practical to place the bike inside my towed vehicle. Using only the components that came with the rack, the bike was secured on the rack and does not come loose while driving. The manufacturer did not put much quality into the straps. The ends became fray after the first attempt to pass the webbing through the undersized buckle. It takes a pair of needle nose pliers to pass the webbing through the buckle slot. I'm not able to read or speak french so the instructions that came in the package were of no use for me. I used the etrailer online instructions to asemble the rack. 21243

Excellent pricing & value but beyond that was the customer service & speed of delivery. Amazing . . . great to find a company with "old time" business ethics. The bike rack fits the back ladder of my Lance travel trailer perfectly. Thanks ! 166928

Poorly designed -- the rack is not stable on the ladder and tends to be susceptible to canting to one side or the other. Additionally, the rubber mounts for securing the bikes are simply not up to the task. I couldn't find a safe way to use this even by using additional cam straps. The rack was returned. 50953

HiI agree that this is a well designed and simple product to use. My only complaint is that the rubber securing straps are not robust enough, 2 out of the 4 broke on my rack withing weeks. There isnt a spot on the web site that I can see to order some spares. The rack still works fine with the bikes secured using other straps.

We are looking into getting the straps added as a replacement part.

We discovered that my husband's mountain bike would not fit on the rack due to shape and gear on the bike but it fits inside the camper! My mountain bike fits nicely and the "how to" video was very helpful in getting that set up. I gave it a 4 since it wouldn't hold our specific 2 bikes otherwise I like that you can easily put it on and off the camper ladder. 565790

Just installed the carrier on the back of my Montana ladder, just like everyone else I will have to wait until we go out the next time to see if it is going to work, done a dry run mounting the bikes on the rack, had to remove the seat on one bike to make it work, the straps are of poor quality will have to use a ratchet strap to help secure the bike to the carrier my only concern is the bouncing of the bike going up and down the road, you know the road in most states are rough and full of potholes or poor paving. I'm going to look into install a custom made bike rack from the frame for a more quality support. Over all easy to install. Will update later 544045

The bike rack was super easy to assemble & fits perfectly on our Lance 2295 Trailer ladder. Fortunately for us the ladder is centrally located because our two bikes require being mounted horizontally. We can't wait for our next adventure, the swagman will make bringing our bikes much easier! 463455

This carrier mounts nicely on the roof ladder opposite my rear mounted spare tire and allows me to open and close the rear of my '91dodge ram van conversion without removing the bikes. Simply perfect! 66177

I purchased this ladder rack to deal with tedious tiedown straps on a similar type product. The rubber fasteners on this rack require only a few seconds to secure a bike to the frame. But it does take a little longer to thread the safety tiedown straps and keepers around the ladder steps and through the bike frames so the ladder, carrier, and bikes are all secured together in one big loop. Although the instructions don't mention this, if your 2 bikes are too wide to rest side by side on their cradles, you can slide the cradles farther apart on their respective tubes. The closest crunch point between 2 bikes is the crank and pedals. You may have to rotate the inner bike's pedals to avoid impacting the outer bike's frame or crank/pedal. It's a learning experience. Overall, a great product for quickly & safely securing 2 bikes to a ladder. 230662

It fits well on my View, in spite of the fact that the bottom half of my ladder folds up in front of the fixed upper part. My wife's bike frame is smallish, and the seat downtube is too short for the spacing of the rack, but I offset it (toward the seat) and it works fine. Since I'm carrying two mountain bikes, I had to remove the front wheels to keep the handlebars from hitting the camper. Oh, and although the instructions don't mention it, you have to put the two bikes facing in opposite directions. Now I need to rig some sort of spacer to keep the hanging bikes fromswinging fore and aft. Very happy, all in all. 29445

I couldn't figure out a way to safely transport my bicycle when my wife and I go camping with our travel trailer. Putting it in back of the pick-up just upped the risk of damaging the bike and took quite a bit of room. The manufacturer of the travel trailer did not recommend installing a hitch. The trailer has a very sturdy ladder and this solved my problem. I thought the price and shipping were very reasonable. The video of the carrier's installation sealed the deal for me. Thanks 209160

I have had my bike rack 1 year and so far the results have been very good. Easy to install on the ladder rack and easy to remove when you need to use the ladder. Supports for the two bikes are close together so there was a learning curve on how best to position the bikes. I added some extra padding to minimize scratching the bikes (old blue swimming noodle). I also use some bungee cords to help secure bikes to ladder. Just got back from a 3300 miles camping trip with no issues. 575483

This Bike Rack is a high quality product. I am excited to get to use it. It is replacing a similar, but lower quality rack had us nearly losing our bikes on the road, and ended up with bent support arms. I believe the inner support bars on this product will allow it to better suit our needs. This company is very reliable and service was fast. 471970

Took the Swagman ladder bike rack on a six week RV trip at the end of summer in 2017. Worked great. It did not bend under the weight of the bikes like the standard ladder rack of another manufacturer that we purchased prior to that. For a ladder mount bike rack, this is a good product. Know the weight of your bikes and read the detail of how much weight the rack will carry. 465003

I received the ladder rack the same day we were packing for a weekend trip. I was able to put everything together, installed on the RV, and bikes hung while my wife was finishing the packing. The bikes road great for the 400 mile round trip, w/ no damage to the bikes or the RV. Very happy w/ the product, quick set up, and safety of both the bikes and the RV. 409954

Just what we needed; we had to come up with something to take the place of our regular bike rack (Yakima) on the back of the RV since we are now pulling a smartcar and there wasn't enough room for the rack and the tow package....... this is perfect. Lightweight but very sturdy. On longer trips, we use the heavyweight zipties in two places just to make sure there is no chance of "wobble". 408101

I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical about how this would hold up for two adult bikes on our travel trailer's ladder; but WOW. Very sturdy construction and comes through on every bit of it's claims. Yes, I do secure with ratchet straps for obvious reasons; but as far as the rack is 5 stars. Farthest we've traveled with two bikes on the rack is a little over 300 miles one way. ZERO issues. Would highly recommend for RV'ers that want to bring their bikes camping. 372690

Too early for a complete review as our 5th wheel is in the shop for a few days following a mishap on the last trip. The Swagman looks a lot better than the Stromberg it replaces but we need a fit up with our bikes and a road test to tell the story. 274940

  • RV Ladder Bike Rack Recommendation for a Lance Model 1885 with 2 inch Ladder Supports
  • I have a ladder rack bike rack solution for you, but the Surco 2 Bike Carrier # SP501BR that you referenced would not work for you since it is designed to work on ladders with 1 inch diameter supports and you have 2 inch diameter supports. There isn't an adapter available either. Instead you would want the Swagman RV Ladder Bike Rack part # S80630. This rack will hook on the rungs of your ladder and will provide you with a 2 bike rack.

  • Trailer Hitch Extender for Bike Rack on Rear of Fifth Wheel Trailer
  • I would not under any circumstance recommend using a hitch extender at the rear of a fifth wheel. Using an extender will lower the tongue weight capacity of your hitch (the maximum amount of weight that can safely be hung from the hitch) by 50 percent. This could place the capacity of the hitch as low as 100 lbs, depending on if your hitch is a Class I or II. This would mean that the weight of the bike rack plus the bikes stowed on it couldn't exceed 100 lbs. Because adding the extender...

  • Recommend Bike Ladder Rack For Truck Camper w/ 10 Inch Wide Ladder
  • I do have a ladder bike rack that will fit the ladder on your truck camper. Checkout the Swagman RV and Motorhome 2 Bike Carrier, part # S80630. The Swagman 2 Bike Carrier has a width of 9-1/4 inches and should work on your truck camper ladder. I have attached instructions and a picture showing the dimensions of the Swagman RV and Motorhome 2 Bike Carrier, part # S80630.

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for the Back of a 2014 Forest River Travel Trailer
  • The weight capacity of the bumper should be included with the literature for the trailer. If not, contact Forest River because that might be something that they know even if not listed in the manual. The Swagman rack # S64663 weighs around 35 pounds or so and when loaded to its max capacity you are looking at a total of 115 pounds. If the bumper is not strong enough or there is not enough space for the rack then I would go with a ladder mounted rack. We have # LA-102 which has a capacity...

  • Protecting RV and Bikes when Using the Swagman RV Ladder Mounted 2 Bike Rack
  • It depends on the clearance you have between your ladder and your camper. The Swagman 2 Bike Carrier RV Ladder Mounted Bike Rack, part # S80630 is designed so that when a bike is mounted, it will sit far enough away from the ladder to allow the handle bars and pedal to mount. However, depending on your bike, it is possible one side of the handle bars or a pedal will poke through the ladder. If your ladder is very close to the back of your camper, the bike and the camper may come into contact....

  • Can a Spare Tire Bike Rack be Used on a Travel Trailer
  • The Hollywood Racks SR1 2-Bike Carrier part # HRSR1 will work on tires up to 12" wide. If you can tell me what size spare tire you have on your travel trailer then I would be glad to let you know if it falls within this range although it should because most spare tires for a trailer will not be near this wide. However, this bike rack is not intended for use on spare tires mounted on trailers so I cannot recommend you use this. Instead, you will want to take a look at the attached link...

  • Recommended Bike Rack for Trailer with Tilting Bumper Mounted Spare Tire
  • For your camping trailer that has a tilting bumper mounted spare tire, I recommend looking at an RV approved hitch-mounted bike rack like the Swagman Dispatch 2 Bike Platform Rack # S64684. This will slide into a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver and hold 2 bikes of up to 45 pounds each. When the bikes are unloaded from the carrier, the upright mast can be folded down to allow you to tilt back the spare tire on your trailer for rear storage access. This carrier also includes a hitch and cable...

  • Recommended Bike Rack for Use in Hitch on 5th Wheel Trailer
  • We do offer bike racks that are rated to handle the extra stresses found at the rear of a 5th wheel or travel trailer. Such bike racks are made to withstand the powerful lateral and vertical forces found at the back of trailers, forces that would destroy a standard automobile-type rack. The linked page displays all RV-rated bike racks. These include 2-inch hitch-mount hanging style racks like the Swagman Original 3 Bike Rack # S64152-2 and the Reese Eclipse 4-bike rack # 63124. There...

  • RV-Rated 2-Bike Rack for 2015 Lance 1685 Travel Trailer
  • We do offer a range of RV-rated bike racks that can transport your 2 bikes on the back of your Lance travel trailer. The linked page will show you all types, which include hitch-mount, bumper-mount and ladder-mount types. The Lance website does not provide specs for the bumper on their 1685 so you'll want to contact them with your trailer's VIN to confirm the bumper is continuously-welded steel and strong enough to handle the weight of a loaded bike rack. Based on the photos on their...

  • How are Bikes Carried on the Swagman RV and Motorhome Bike Racks # S80630
  • I do not have an actual picture of bikes on the Swagman RV and Motorhome 2 Bike Carrier, item # S80630, yet but I did manage to come up with an illustration of how the bikes will hang on the rack and how the rack hangs on the RV ladder (see Photo). The arms of the rack extend straight out from the back of the ladder on the motorhome and the bikes hang by the center frame that the seat post installs into. This allows you to carry bikes with many different styles of bike frame. You...

  • Dual Hitch Receiver to Tow Trailer and Carry Bike Rack
  • Our Dual Hitch Receivers are not designed for use with any type of trailer. They are designed for use with tow bars only. I recommend installing a hitch on the back of your RV. If your RV has a 4 x 4 inch continuous-welded steel bumper, you could use the RV Bumper 2 inch Trailer Hitch Receiver, # S64025, along with a bike rack that is designed for use behind an RV. The Swagman Original 3 Bike Rack, # S64152-2, is a good choice. If your bumper is not a continuous welded steel bumper,...

  • Converting a Cargo Carrier to Carry a Bike on an RV
  • I went out to the warehouse and measured a set of the Swagman Replacment Hoops, part # P318. The Swagman hoops measure 1-3/16 inches with the stopper, and 1-1/2 inch when the stopper is removed by pulling the bolt out. I can't directly say if this will work for your application or not. Instead, I'd recommend looking at a ladder-based solution like the Swagman Ladder Rack, part # S80630. This will use otherwise unused space on the rear of the RV to store the bike, leaving the cargo carrier...

  • Options for Carrying Bikes on a 5th Wheel Trailer with a 1-1/4 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver
  • The Swagman XTC-2 Platform Style Bike Rack, # S64670, is not approved for use on RVs or trailers. At this time, there are no hitch mount bike racks with a 1-1/4 inch shank that are approved for use on RVs or trailers. We may have some options that will work for you, however, I do not recommend using a 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch adapter when carrying a bike rack at the back of a fifth wheel trailer. The use of an adapter will decrease the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by half...

  • Cargo Carrier and 2 Bike Platform Rack for a Winnebago Fuse
  • I have a possible solution for you, however there is no hitch mounted solution approved for an RV that has a cargo carrier and a bike rack together. The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE with Cargo Carrier, part # HR1400Z-85 is not approved for use on the rear of an RV. Instead, I recommend using a separate cargo carrier and employing the ladder on the rear of the motorhome. The Swagman RV Ladder Mount, part # S80630 is able to carry 2 bikes up to 35 pounds. This rack suspends the bikes...

  • Rack with 4 Bike Capacity Needed for Rear of a Salem RV
  • We do offer bike racks that can utilize the ladder on the rear of the trailer, like the Swagman RV and Motorhome 2 Bike Carrier, part # S80630. Unfortunately, these racks only have a two bike capacity. Depending on the size and construction of the rear bumper, a bumper mounted receiver like the Swagman part # S64025 would be a good option for a 4 x 4 inch continuous-welded steel bumpers. This receiver is not compatible with aluminum or spot-welded steel bumpers. Using a bolt on receiver...

  • Bike Rack Options for the Back of a Motorhome that is Flat Towing a Vehicle
  • Do you have a ladder rack at the back of your motorhome? If so, you could use a Ladder Bike Rack part # S80630. If you have a 4 inch bumper that is continuously welded you could use a bumper mounted bike rack like part # S80501. Using a dual hitch adapter wouldn't be ideal since you are currently using an 8 inch drop adapter and none of the dual hitch adapters have that much drop.
