Exactly what we were looking for. Tried two other racks from another company and returned both. Price is outstanding for the rack you get. Easy to assemble, easy to adjust to individual bikes, easy to load bikes with the center support in the down position. Holds bikes very securely and no worry of shifting in transport. Would definitely recommend. 772866

Great rack and I was able to assemble by myself in about 90 minutes. Tested the rack out and it was very sturdy and well made. I am in my 60’s and was able to lift and load without a problem. 794305

I used it for the first time yesterday - picking up the wife's new electric bike. Once I have experienced how it works with both electric bikes , I'll bump this to 5 stars. The product seems robust, nicely designed and rattle fee. The bike appeared to be very secure when fully installed. The ONLY minor assembly issue was not mentioning to have the small set-screw face downward well after the rest of the structure is built. 801778

assembly straightforward and quality construction. Heavy duty materials and fit to rv and Jeep wrangler rubicon recon was good, allowing good clearance of unit and bikes between Wrangler spare tire and brake light. Holds two bikes, one is an e bike, with good room between. Some wobble at point of holding hooks and frames but segment of pool noodle attached to bike frame cross bars secured them and eliminated slight loose fit at those points. This unit has to be American made judging from the workmanship and quality of materials. Theresa, in customer service and orders, provided all the prepurchase information I needed and was very good at followups. I recommend using this company. 727135

Very happy with this product. Solid great quality. My e-bike is on securely and I have no concerns for it when I am going down the highway or bumpy back roads. I love the hitch pin and cable. Not only does it take care of any wobbling, it gives me the added peace of mind to leave my bike unattended. Special thanks to Geoffrey who took the time to figure out which rack would fit my Jeep Wrangler (with tire and camera). I was going to buy a different one but thanks to the right questions he asked and patiently waiting while I went out to take measurements, he figured out that one would not fit. But he did figure out the Swagman would. He assured me it was a good quality one, despite being about 40% less in price. He was absolutely right! Thank you Geoffrey for knowing your products so well! Without your assistance I would have ordered the wrong one at a much higher price and had to go through the headache of sending it back. 871024

The bike carrier is very solid and easy to assemble. It stores away easy and can handle my e-bikes easy. I have only used it once so far but it's very solid with the bikes loaded and traveling at 65 miles per hour. 869609

This Product arrived on time and in good condition. It is very well constructed and tilts up very easily. It is heavy at 65 lbs but is very strong. Installed it on a 2” hitch and it seems to be very adequate for my purposes. Have not yet mounted a bicycle on the bike rack but it appears to be easy to load bikes on and off. 869420

Very well packaged, concise and well illustrated assembly instructions. I was “up and running” in less than an hour. Rack is very sturdy and surprisingly heavy. I had seen the video illustrating the mounting and use of the rack, so it was easy to get my two bikes loaded. 869247

Fast delivery. Better than promised. Great quality construction and easy to assemble. Bikes load easy. I found the ease of loading a 29er E-bike better than a similar Thule rack I used just a week before. 868894

The bike rack arrived when it was supposed to and the assembly was pretty straight forward. Wasn't able to actually try out the rack for about a week as the weather here wasn't cooperating. We were finally able to take our ebikes to a trail about 15 miles from our home and it preformed well. It's definitely easier to load the heavier ebikes with two people but with a little caution one person can load the bikes. I really like the locking clamps as well as the lock for the hitch insert. Overall quality of construction seems very good and the heavy ebikes rode well with very little swaying around when transporting. One thing I might mention. Our two ebikes are a step through design and I had read on etrailer the answer to a question regarding concerns that the longer clamp might not catch the frame well. In the response to the question one solution that was offered was to buy spare set of clamps and simply use the two shorter ones. I ordered the extra set and it didn't take long to realize that this wouldn't work because the two short clamps can't occupy the same space on the shaft they slide onto and the shorter clamp is configured to slide down the locking bar on only one side so this is not a viable solution. Fortunately, I was able to make the long and short clamp work on our step through ebikes as there is a cross arm just high enough up the frame to catch with the longer clamp. I debated about sending the extra clamps back but decided they weren't that expensive and it would give us a spare set if we needed them. Overall, a very good product and as usual, great service and information from etrailer. 867313

This is my second Swagman bike rack. One each at two different homes. easy loading for both of as we are senior citizens. The higher top end loading and tie downs made the lifting and handling difficult. The rack is solid, clean, and with the tilting addition is perfect on all accounts. 865770

Received the bike rack in record time. Took a little time to assemble but the directions were very clear and the pictures helped. Very heavy once assembled. Have installed it on my car but haven't transported my ebike as yet. Very sturdy construction and should be able to accommodate my ebike which weighs 41 lbs without the battery. My previous rack was also a Swagman but was not 'rated' to carry the weight of an ebike....thus this purchase. Will be very anxious to see how it works with my ebike. 861540

I love the rack, easy to assemble and install, heavy duty and durable, love the way it tilts out for easy access to tailgate and tilt up so it doesn't have to be removed. the locks and cable makes me feel much more confident of the safety and security of my e-bikes. I'm a member of the Rad ebikes facebook page and gave an excellent recommendation to all my fellow riders!! 860020

Rack appears to be high quality, well designed, well built, sturdy and has a streamlined appearance on our 2018 Jeep Cherokee. Assembly took about an hour, was straightforward, a little awkwardness but not too difficult and certainly within the strength and physical capability of this 70 year old. Only minor issue was that the parts list didn't include the two brackets to mount the cross bars and I didn't notice their mention in the assembly instructions. When I was finished and saw them left over I went back through the instructions and then detached and reinstalled the cross bars with the brackets. This wasn't a huge deal. Loading and fastening our bikes (two heavy EBikes) on the rack is pretty simple and easy. They also appear to be quite stable and secure. Although I haven't taken them on a trip as yet. One thing worth noting is that the rack is a little too heavy and unwieldy for my wife to fold down and back up, even without the bikes loaded, for tailgate access. So, I will be detaching it from the trailer hitch when not using it. Fortunately, detaching it from and re-attaching it to the hitch is fairly easy. I would rate this rack as a fine product, good value and the etrailer purchasing and customer service communication experience was outstanding. 859112

Ask the Experts about this Swagman Hitch Bike Racks

  • 2-Bike Platform Rack for Heavy Bikes Compatible with Class I Hitch
The Swagman Current 2 Bike Platform Rack part # S64678 is only compatible with class II and class III hitches so it most likely will not pin into a Class I hitch. For a similar rack that is compatible with a class I hitch, I recommend the Rola Convoy 2 Bike Platform Rack for 1-1/4" Hitches # 59307-2 because it shares many of the main features as the Current, so it tilts away for cargo access, folds for storage, and it also comes with a hitch and bike lock to protect your investments....

  • Solution for Needing Additional Short Hook with Swagman Current E-Bike Rack
Swagman still does not offer the long and short hooks of the part # SP428 separately so if you wanted to get a short hook for a step through frame for the Swagman Current # S64678 you'd need the set of both. Or you could go with a bike frame adapter bar like part # UB01 instead which attaches to the seat post and steering stem which the long hook can grab.

According to Swagman, the single bike capacity for their # S64678 Current bike rack is 60 lbs per bike, and exceeding that capacity for either isn't recommended. We do have some alternatives, though. If your vehicle has a 2 inch hitch, and the bikes do not have fenders, the Rola Convoy, part # 59308-2 would be an outstanding choice. First, you'll want to make sure that the anti rattle bolt included with the # S64683 Chinook that secures the bike rack into the hitch has been fully snugged down. The hitch pin is intended to pull the bike rack's shank tightly up against the side of the receiver tube, preventing movement so if it isn't fully tight it could allow the bike rack shank to move about. Secondly, you'll want to check all the hardware on the rack, ensuring that it's tight. This includes the connection between...

It weighs about 50lbs and can handle 60lbs per bike. Before grabbing an extender I do recommend confirming the distance between the center hole to the bumper is 8". There should be no issue with the Swagman Current # S64678 when it is folded up, but when it is down and bikes are mounted, that's a different story.
