Big bikes don’t have to be a workout before the ride starts. The Piston Pro uses hydro-pneumatic struts that deploy with a simple tap of the release levers, so the arms lift and position themselves for you. Each arm locks over the wheel using U-shaped bridges with labeled settings for 20", 24", 26", 27.5", and 29" tires. No frame contact, no tools, and no heavy lifting—just tap, load, and go.
Nothing ruins a drive like a rack that wobbles. The Piston Pro locks tight in the hitch using a flatlock cam system and an included security tool. As you tighten it, an internal wedge presses out to remove play between the rack and hitch, cutting down on movement and noise. Once in place, the setup stays firm mile after mile, even with two 67-lb bikes loaded up.
Whether you’re grabbing gear mid-trip or parking in tight spots, the spring-loaded hand and foot pedal keeps things easy. Step or pull the pedal to tilt the rack down—no need to unload bikes first. When you’re done, tilt it back or fold it up to save space. It’s smooth to operate and leaves both hands free to guide the rack exactly where you want it.
The Piston Pro locks down both ends of the setup. A 12-mm braided steel cable secures your bikes to the rack, while a stainless steel hitch lock keeps the rack attached where it belongs. Both locks are keyed alike, and the cable’s rubber cover prevents scratches. Peace of mind comes standard every time you walk away from your rig.
From narrow 18c road tires to 5" fat bike rubber, the cradle-less trays hold your bikes exactly where you place them, so handlebars and pedals don’t clash. The rack handles wheelbases up to 53" and carries 2 bikes at 67 lbs each (42 lbs when used on an RV). For e-bikes or heavier frames, a telescoping aluminum ramp is available separately to roll them on without lifting.

etrailer does an excellent job reviewing and showcasing its products. We spent many hours of research on the site before deciding on the Kuat. Assembly was fairly simple and quick. The features of the rack make it easy to use. Stable ride for our bikes down a wide variety of conditions (highway, dirt road, wash boards). Expensive, but the ease of use and quality make it worthwhile.
I researched tray racks for mountain bikes and knew that Kuat's Piston Pro was the best rack for my needs. I love etrailer for the how to install videos, support and pricing. If etrailer sells an item I'm interested in I purchase from them. I do this because of how hard they work for their customers. This rack is exceptional. Build quality is first class. The assembly was simple, the locking cable and hitch lock are very sturdy. My 29" wheel full suspension Specialized fits perfectly. My son's smaller Scott Mountain Bike also fits perfectly. We are getting Fat Tire Bikes and the trays support 5" tire widths. Adjustments for wheel size is simple, loading a bike is even easier. The bikes are solidly secured in place. 10 out of 10.
It was a surprise treat to have it setup and installed under an hour! Works very efficiently as advertised def worth look into it.
Easiest rack ever to use, holds my heavy ebike stable, sliding parts still working smooth after a year of use and being mounted to my car 90 percent of the time. Highly recommend.

Great bike rack! It came to my house safely and was easy to install.
Very substantial rack. Rides solid on our vehicle. As usual etrailer was extremely helpful and shipping was fast. Can’t say enough about etrailer customer service.
The piston pro bike rack is easy and fast. I can have my bike off the rack and on the trail in under a minute. Loading it back up is just as simple. It’s definitely a pricier option, but absolutely worth it. This makes me so happy every time I use it!

Looks awesome, Skip! Thanks for sharing the measurements on the rack compared to the '26 Honda Trailsport - it's nice having that information out there for such new vehicle :) Have you had a chance to get out there and break in the new rack?
