Tapered, Dual Folding Arms with Anti-Sway Cradles

Curt premium 4-bike carrier with tapered, dual armsCurt premium 4-bike carrier with tapered, dual arms

This Curt rack has dual arms that provide excellent support for your bikes. They slope up to provide ground clearance for steep driveways and bumpy roads. The tapered arms are great for carrying bikes for the whole family. The arms are 16" apart near the mast for carrying adult bikes. The spacing between the arms then narrows to 10" at the end of the rack, making it easier to carry kids' bikes.

Curt premium 4-bike carrier with tapered, dual arms folded down

To fold the arms down, remove the tethered pull pin at the top of the mast. This leaves a smaller footprint, so you can keep the rack on your vehicle to park in your garage. And when stored in this configuration, it doesn't take up as much space in your garage.

Curt premium 4-bike carrier anti-sway cradles.

Anti-sway cradles with rubber straps hold your bikes firmly in place. Each set of cradles has two straps that secure your bike along the top tube and one that secures the seat post or downtube. This multi-point contact helps keep your bikes from rocking back and forth, reducing bike-to-bike contact. The soft rubber cradles rotate around the rack's arms to accommodate bikes of different styles and shapes. They also have raised ridges that prevent your brake and shifter cables from getting pinched.

Tilts for Cargo Area Access

Curt premium tilting mast

The rack tilts down without your bikes loaded. This means you won't have to remove the whole rack to access your cargo area for grocery runs and other errands.

Curt Premium 4-bike rack t-handle

To tilt the rack, remove the tethered pull pin at the base of the rack, lift the spring-loaded, T-shaped handle and lower the mast. When you're ready to go, raise the mast back up until the T-shaped handle snaps back into place, and re-insert the pull pin.

Threaded Hitch Pin

Curt premium hitch pin

A threaded hitch pin is included to help eliminate rattle in the hitch receiver during transport. To tighten the pin in your hitch, use the included 3/4" wrench, or a 3/4" socket wrench (sold separately). A clip is also included to keep the pin in place.

Welded Rung and Available Accessories

Curt built-in rung.Curt standard cable lock

The welded rung on the back of the upright mast provides an anchor point for a cable lock (sold separately) to help deter theft of your bikes.

Curt standard cable lock

A hitch lock (sold separately) is also available to secure the rack to your vehicle.

Saris Bones Hitch 2 Adapter Sleeve and Hitch Pin

If you have a women's bike, kid's bike, or any other bike without a straight, horizontal top tube, you will need an adapter bar (sold separately) to properly mount your bike. The bar fits between the seat post and handlebar stem post of your bike to create a top tube so your bike hangs level on the rack.

Took the bike rack off the pedestal and welded a receiver onto the pedestal. Then put a receiver cargo rack into the receiver. This setup is then mounted into the receiver hitch in the back of my 20 ft RV motor home. Worked great. My stuff in the cargo rack is off the road, I can still parallel park the RV in city parking spaces, backing up is a little easier because I don’t have to worry as much about the cargo rack hitting something. Anybody need an additional rack for the bikes.

Great

Wow a year already! Bike rack works well. I paired it with a Yakima side swivel unit to work with my FJCruiser and another larger SUV we own. Sturdy unit. ONLY complaint is that the rubber bicycle tie down straps supplied have already ripped. Not a very good quality rubber or rubber composite.

Very good still

This box arrived extremely damaged. I’m not certain that I’d like to use this one because it looks like it might be damaged on the inside as well. I’d like to exchange this and get a different one.

The one disadvantage of this rack (that I got to include kids bikes) is that it is difficult to get a step-thru' bike on the rack. I was successful, but it was not easy.

by:

After less than one year, and only 5 or 6 uses, the threaded stabilizer--the one just below the spring-loaded, T-shaped handle used for tilting the mast--stripped out the hole it passes through in the body of the rack. Now my rack wobbles like crazy. I'm still within the warranty period, but in order to get it fixed, I have to return the entire bike rack and cover the return shipping . I'll just keep the broken rack and find a way to deal with the issue. Hopefully you have a better experience than me.

by:

The bike rack is great. It was easy to put together, and it is very silent when driving around, with or without bikes on it. The fold-away feature is great for getting into the back of my car without taking the hitch off. Despite the moving parts it doesn’t rattle or shake. The rubber straps are nice to use, much easier than plastic straps or metal clamps. See the photo below of it installed on my 2016 Subaru Outback; license plate edited out. Highly recommended.

by:

The Hitch works great! My 2015 Volvo XC60 did not come w/ a Hitch, and I cannot use a trunk bike rack because of the spoiler. I had my mechanic install both the Hitch & the Bike Rack (Curt Premium Hitch-mounted 4-bike Carrier - 2" Hitches), he basically took it out the box and showed me how to use it.

by:

I am very happy with the quality and operation of this bike rack! This is a high quality, solidly built product. Although I normally only carry one bike, I specifically decided to purchase this model because the hitch insert is 2-inch solid steel. Many other racks are designed to fit both 1/1/4" and 2-inch hitches, but to do so, they have an adapter sleeve, which tends to be more prone to wobbling and wear. This rack, made for 2-inch hitches only, eliminates that problem. My first trip with it was 60-mile roundtrip, and it was rock-steady on highways, back roads, and gravel surfaces. It was very easy to assemble (minimal assembly required) and installation was a breeze. I like the triangular saddles that are adaptable to accommodate a wide range of bikes. Each of the saddles has six available attachment points for the straps, making it easy to secure your bikes. For me, this bike rack was a great choice, and as always, etrailer is super fast in order processing, fulfillment, and follow-up.

by:

It works, but this thing is junk. It’s all bolted together. The bolts keep vibrating loose and I have to retighten them constantly. The biggest flaw is how unstable it is. With everything completely tightened, the whole rack is free to wiggle around several inches in every direction. The whole time I used it, the bikes were bouncing around and rubbing against each other. The video was taken with the bolts recently tightened. Also notice that I was unable to fit two full sized bikes next to each other without putting one on the child sized space. I wish I had spent more money and bought a quality product.

If its any consolation, what you are describing is just the nature of this style of rack. There will be some play and it gets more exaggerated the further away things are from the hitch. Also, it is normal to have to retighten things down, too. I can suggest a different bike carrier if you are interested in upgrading. My suggestions would be part # NV22G-NA22G. It is considerably more expensive but at the same time the quality is there. It carries four bikes and also has the tilt away feature. It is a platform style so your bikes will be much more stable and secure going down the road. But if youre maybe looking for more economical solution, I would recommend trying an anti rattle device like part # BX88224. This one reduces movement up and down as well as side to side.

by:

This Curt bike carrier is ideal for my front hitch that I recently installed on my 2005 GMC. I had to remove my front tag holder for clearance but it works perfectley. It can be easily removed and installed on the back hitch when I'm not towing my camper. This is a well built and solid bike carrier.
It was delivered very timely and well packaged.

Only used it once...its heavy and well made. I used it on the front hitch, it sits high and obstructs my driving view. But it worked ok.

by:

I will adjust my review after our family vacation I'd necessary. For now the Curt bike rack seems sturdy, is easy to mount and stow bikes. Assembly was quick and simple. Fitting 4 bikes was a simple challenge but easily accomplished.

by:

I have used this 4 bike Curt bike rack for a year.
It has worked very well. It’s easy to put the bikes on the rack
The straps hold the bikes securely in place. When I am going on trip
(Several hundred miles), I’ll use some bungee cords that I have to secure the bikes to each other.
This rack works GREAT!!!

by:

The bike rack works well. I like the design of the straps. The only downside is that it is heavy to lift to slide it into the hitch.

by:

Only fit 1 of our 4 bikes. They all matched the listed specs which is misleading. This only accepts a very specific frame design. Full suspension bikes, small lady’s bike frames and kids bikes will be very difficult or impossible to fit without purchasing additional accessories making this overpriced. Wish etrailer would have given a full refund due to misleading specs.

Although the unique tapered-arm design of the rack helps make it compatible with many types of bikes, however some bikes will require the use of a frame adapter bar like # 64005.

by:

This unit is heavy duty. I thought I needed a heavy duty/quality bike rack because I hate buying flimsy crap. I'm not sure I needed one THIS heavy duty. I have no doubt it will last as long as I am alive and probably as long as my kids are as well.

by:

Easy to use and to load 4 bikes. Even our son's bike that has a shock absorber in the center of the bike frame.

by:

Very nice bike rack. Only issue the bolt for attaching to hitch did not work and had to purchase separately.

by:

The rack is fine though a bit difficult to put up and down. It is cheaper than the competition but not quite as easy to use.

by:

great and affordable bike rack! easy to install and setup. works great have but had why issues. solid construction and does not wobble. don't pay for those expensive brands. highly recommend this hitch for someone looking for 4 bike rack

by:

Easy to install, nice and sturdy. My only complaint is that the blocks that the bikes sit on are bulky and hard to move. Depending on the frame of the bike it can be a challenge to get it on the rack and sitting on the blocks.

Heidi

5/27/2021

Love how the bars taper in for kids hikes. Find that the blocks are now super stiff and hard to move which can make it really hard to mount bikes.

Sierra K.

5/27/2021

Thank you for your review. If you are needing to reposition the cradles then I would use soapy water. These are typically hard to move so that it does not happen during travel.

by:

It's assembled and mounted, after I've tested it out with bikes mounted I'll let you know

by:

I've been using the hitch and bike rack for over a year, no problems. Installation was simple and the instructions (and video on eTrailer) were spot on.

John S.

After a year of use, Ive no problems with the trailer it is as solid as the day I installed it. Great product from a great company!

by:

Good for smaller bikes since it has a narrower end. Very hard to fold down of bikes are on it. Worth the money but for sure but not the greatest product.

The handing bikes that we carry typically do not allow for the bike to remain on it while titling forward. If you want to stay with a hanging rack I recommend considering part # SR2415 as it has a swing away option that will allow for the bikes to remain on the rack.

by:

1 year in and this has been a great purchase. The bike rack works exactly as advertised and provides solid transport for our 2 adult bikes and 2 kid bikes. We had great service from the folks at eTrailer as well at the time of purchase and for the accessories. Highly recommend both the bike rack and eTrailer.
