Features to know about

Family Rides Made Simple: Carries 4 Bikes at 45 lbs Each

When weekend plans call for the whole crew, the Curt 4-Bike Rack is ready. It supports up to 4 bicycles with a 45-lb capacity per bike, giving plenty of room for adult bikes and smaller rides alike. The tapered dual arms make loading easy—spaced 14" apart near the mast for adult frames and narrowing to 8" at the ends for kids’ bikes—so everyone’s gear fits without fuss.

Smooth, Secure Transport: Anti-Sway Cradles and Threaded Hitch Pin

No one likes bikes clanking together on the road. Anti-sway cradles hold each frame tight at the top tube and seat post, reducing movement and keeping paint jobs safe from scuffs. A threaded hitch pin helps cut down on rattle in the receiver, tightening firmly with a 3/4" wrench for a solid, stable hold. It’s the kind of setup that stays quiet even on bumpy stretches.

Quick Access When You Need It: Tilting Mast Design

Grabbing a cooler or gear from the back shouldn’t mean removing the rack. The mast tilts down when unloaded, giving clear access to the cargo area. Just pull the tethered pin, drop the rack back, and reach what you need. It’s a handy feature for quick stops or post-ride snack runs.

Space-Saving Storage: Folding Arms for Tight Spots

When the ride’s done, fold the arms down with a simple pull of the tethered pin. It shortens the rack for easy parking and takes up less room in the garage—no need to remove it every time. The 41-lb steel frame is finished in a black powder coat for rust resistance and long-term durability.

Built-In Flexibility: Optional Security and Adapter Accessories

A welded rung on the mast provides an anchor point for a cable lock (sold separately) to help deter theft. For step-through or kids’ bikes without a straight top tube, a frame adapter bar (sold separately) keeps everything level and secure. With thoughtful touches like these, the Curt 4-Bike Rack keeps family rides organized, protected, and ready to roll.

by:

1 year in and this has been a great purchase. The bike rack works exactly as advertised and provides solid transport for our 2 adult bikes and 2 kid bikes. We had great service from the folks at eTrailer as well at the time of purchase and for the accessories. Highly recommend both the bike rack and eTrailer.

by:

great and affordable bike rack! easy to install and setup. works great have but had why issues. solid construction and does not wobble. don't pay for those expensive brands. highly recommend this hitch for someone looking for 4 bike rack

by:

I held off reviewing the rack for a few months so I could give a fair reflection on how it is to live with. After many trips with different numbers of bikes fitted here are my honest thoughts. It's a good value well made rack, but I cannot recommend it for frequent use. If you want to load the family bikes for a road trip infrequently then it'll probably be ideal.

Positive:
The wide/narrow arm configuration is really useful if you are carrying bikes for the family. My boys bikes fit nicely onto the outer narrow arms without the need for additional mounting bars.
The rack is very well made and has very little wobble or rattling. I'm pretty sure that it'll still be going strong in many years time.
It's light enough to easily install and remove. A nice design feature on this model (compared to my friends racks) is that with the arms lowered it looks very tidy on the back of the car so I'm happy to leave it on between rides.

Negative:
The plastic triangular mounts are a real pain. If you have an aluminum road bike with down tube cable routing you may not have an issue, but when mounting our bikes I find the raised clips for the rubber straps catch the cables repeatedly. The large plastic triangles are awkward to weave between bottle mounts and frames. The hard plastic finish also rubs the paintwork.
The lowering mechanism is overly complicated and requires three separate actions to release. While the belt and braces approach is reassuring, it's annoying that the pin and clip are not tethered (as they are on the arms) so you run the risk of losing them when loading the trunk at your local trail head.
The lowering mechanism is livable, but the mounting points are a significant issue with this rack. In fact, they are such a pain to live with and I cannot recommend buying this rack solely because of them.

by:

Holds 2 adult bikes well, I really like it. Kid's bike (16" wheels) does not fit, but luckily the kids bike fits a back seat of my car. Also, it makes opening SUV rear gate more difficult.

A year later... Now I have bought a bigger bike to my son, and it fits to the rack, so it is good for 3 bikes. As for rear gate opening: better not buy this model of you have auto rear gate. Once I have forgotten that the rack is mounted and tried to open a rear gate remotly. Now I have a dent on the rear gate

by:

Only fit 1 of our 4 bikes. They all matched the listed specs which is misleading. This only accepts a very specific frame design. Full suspension bikes, small lady’s bike frames and kids bikes will be very difficult or impossible to fit without purchasing additional accessories making this overpriced. Wish etrailer would have given a full refund due to misleading specs.

Although the unique tapered-arm design of the rack helps make it compatible with many types of bikes, however some bikes will require the use of a frame adapter bar like # 64005.

by:

So far, I took the hitch rack out of the box and put it together. It seems very well constructed, durable, and well designed. And the price is right! I will update this review after a few weeks of use. Customer service is excellent! After I purchased this rack and after it shipped (which seeemed right away!)

After a year of use, Ive no problems with the trailer it is as solid as the day I installed it. Great product from a great company!

Easy to install, nice and sturdy. My only complaint is that the blocks that the bikes sit on are bulky and hard to move. Depending on the frame of the bike it can be a challenge to get it on the rack and sitting on the blocks.

Love how the bars taper in for kids hikes. Find that the blocks are now super stiff and hard to move which can make it really hard to mount bikes.

Thank you for your review. If you are needing to reposition the cradles then I would use soapy water. These are typically hard to move so that it does not happen during travel.

by:

Overall it fits all 4 bikes somewhat easily (depending on the bikes). Two adult bikes and 2 kids bikes need a little bit of maneuvering to get on/off.

The bike rack does wobble quite a bit in the car hitch which is disappointing, no matter how tight we make the bolt. Unsure what the problem is though.

Some kids bikes and step through bikes will require an adapter bar to ensure that they are sitting on the rack correctly: Item # HRBA-PRO. Also, you can try a stabilizing strap to ensure everything is tight: Item # 18050. Lastly, an anti-rattle device will greatly reduce the noise associated with the bike rack in the hitch receiver: Item # e99007.

by:

It's inexpensive for a 4 bike rack. However the support blocks the bikes rest on a bulky and awkward. You will struggle to 'slide' smaller size frames and kids bikes onto the arms. The more expensive racks have much more convenient tilt feature but for the price this is a decent rack.

Rock Solid after a year!

by:

Wow a year already! Bike rack works well. I paired it with a Yakima side swivel unit to work with my FJCruiser and another larger SUV we own. Sturdy unit. ONLY complaint is that the rubber bicycle tie down straps supplied have already ripped. Not a very good quality rubber or rubber composite.

Another Curt high quality product. Very well designed and easy to use. High quality finish. Assembly was very easy. Lots of great features like tilting of the rack so that you can open your back hatch of your car. The anti wable and sway features for your bikes . The ability to lock your bikes to the rack with a cable or strap (sold separately) . The ability to fold the rack down when not transporting bikes. Over all extremely satisfied with this purchase.

Been using this product for over a year now. It it holding up great! Worth the investment!

by:

Took the bike rack off the pedestal and welded a receiver onto the pedestal. Then put a receiver cargo rack into the receiver. This setup is then mounted into the receiver hitch in the back of my 20 ft RV motor home. Worked great. My stuff in the cargo rack is off the road, I can still parallel park the RV in city parking spaces, backing up is a little easier because I don’t have to worry as much about the cargo rack hitting something. Anybody need an additional rack for the bikes.

by:

Installation on my 2012 Odyssey. I thought these pics may be helpful.

by:

Easy to use and to load 4 bikes. Even our son's bike that has a shock absorber in the center of the bike frame.

by:

The Hitch works great! My 2015 Volvo XC60 did not come w/ a Hitch, and I cannot use a trunk bike rack because of the spoiler. I had my mechanic install both the Hitch & the Bike Rack (Curt Premium Hitch-mounted 4-bike Carrier - 2" Hitches), he basically took it out the box and showed me how to use it.

by:

I will adjust my review after our family vacation I'd necessary. For now the Curt bike rack seems sturdy, is easy to mount and stow bikes. Assembly was quick and simple. Fitting 4 bikes was a simple challenge but easily accomplished.

by:

This rack has worked well for us. I fits the Curt hitch perfectly. It is easy to attach bicycles securely. We can get three adult bicycles on this hitch (see photo). There are sufficient means to protect against sway.

by:

The Box was a little beat up from delivery, but everything was ok in the box
Went together without a problem

by:

I am very happy with the quality and operation of this bike rack! This is a high quality, solidly built product. Although I normally only carry one bike, I specifically decided to purchase this model because the hitch insert is 2-inch solid steel. Many other racks are designed to fit both 1/1/4" and 2-inch hitches, but to do so, they have an adapter sleeve, which tends to be more prone to wobbling and wear. This rack, made for 2-inch hitches only, eliminates that problem. My first trip with it was 60-mile roundtrip, and it was rock-steady on highways, back roads, and gravel surfaces. It was very easy to assemble (minimal assembly required) and installation was a breeze. I like the triangular saddles that are adaptable to accommodate a wide range of bikes. Each of the saddles has six available attachment points for the straps, making it easy to secure your bikes. For me, this bike rack was a great choice, and as always, etrailer is super fast in order processing, fulfillment, and follow-up.

by:

The bike rack is great. It was easy to put together, and it is very silent when driving around, with or without bikes on it. The fold-away feature is great for getting into the back of my car without taking the hitch off. Despite the moving parts it doesn’t rattle or shake. The rubber straps are nice to use, much easier than plastic straps or metal clamps. See the photo below of it installed on my 2016 Subaru Outback; license plate edited out. Highly recommended.

by:

After less than one year, and only 5 or 6 uses, the threaded stabilizer--the one just below the spring-loaded, T-shaped handle used for tilting the mast--stripped out the hole it passes through in the body of the rack. Now my rack wobbles like crazy. I'm still within the warranty period, but in order to get it fixed, I have to return the entire bike rack and cover the return shipping . I'll just keep the broken rack and find a way to deal with the issue. Hopefully you have a better experience than me.

by:

In all a very good rack. Stable and good haptic. What does Not Align with its good quality is the Little screw that tightens the tilt arm so it does not „wobble“. Just a question of time until the Little Whole where its Screwed in (2mm thik Metal Plate) gets „screwed up“ or the arm breaks because of the pressure against it.

by:

This Curt bike carrier is ideal for my front hitch that I recently installed on my 2005 GMC. I had to remove my front tag holder for clearance but it works perfectley. It can be easily removed and installed on the back hitch when I'm not towing my camper. This is a well built and solid bike carrier.
It was delivered very timely and well packaged.

Only used it once...its heavy and well made. I used it on the front hitch, it sits high and obstructs my driving view. But it worked ok.

by:

I've already installed and tested the rig with our four bikes - a bit tight, but it works! I can understand why platform racks are expensive now - you pay for the convenience. I did have a small hiccup. Part of the plastic insert for the stabilizer chipped off. I found it in the box. I've got pictures if it's possible to get a replacement part. Shipping was fast! Can't wait to take kiddos camping now :)

  • 4-Bike Rack to Mount on Front of Vehicle
Hey Jason, Yes, the Benton Shifts&Grins Bike Rack for 4 Bikes # B82FR is going to be your only option for a front-mounted hitch. Most other 4-bike racks, like the Curt Bike Rack for 4 Bikes # C18064, are hanging-style racks that sit much higher, which can obstruct the driver's view when mounted on the front of a vehicle. The # B82FR supports bikes by their wheels instead of the frame, so it works well with 20" kids' bikes, bikes with fenders, and a variety of frame styles without needing...
