Ridgeback Hitch Pin Diagram

Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.

Yakima RidgeBack 5 Bike Rack Loaded

The sturdy, hitch-mounted Yakima Ridgeback lets you transport 5 bikes on the back of your vehicle. The rack has dual arms that offer excellent bike support and anti-sway cradles with ZipStrip ratcheting cradle straps for quick and easy bike loading. The mast tilts away from your vehicle for cargo area access. And installation is tool-free with an integrated anti-rattle device that locks the rack to your vehicle.

Folding Dual Support Arms

Yakima RidgeBack 5 Bike Rack Dual Foldable Arms

The Ridgeback's dual arms offer excellent bike support.

Yakima RidgeBack 5 Bike Rack Arms Fold Down Visual

And they fold down flat against the mast for parking clearance and compact storage. To fold them down, pull the grey TriggerFinger control lever on top of the mast. When you're ready to load bikes again, simply lift the arms back up until they lock into place with an audible click.

Anti-Sway Cradles with Ratcheting ZipStrip Straps

Yakima RidgeBack 2 Bike Rack Anti Sway Craddles

The RidgeBack has anti-sway cradles that grip your bike frame at 3 different points - twice along the top bar and once along a downward bar, such as a seat post. This third point of contact helps to prevent sway and bike-to-bike contact.

Yakima RidgeBack 5 Bike Rack Ratchet Straps Visual

Ratcheting ZipStrips let you quickly and easily secure your bikes in the cradles. These straps require none of the tugging and stretching that conventional straps require. Simply insert the strap into the buckles on the cradle, and push it down until it's snug around your bike frame. The ZipStrips can be removed quickly by pressing the release levers on the sides of each anti-sway cradle.

A layer of TPE padding on each cradle absorbs road shock and minimizes vibrations.

Tool-Free Installation with SpeedKnob

Yakima RidgeBack 2 Bike Rack SpeedKnob Tighten with Anti Rattle

The Ridgeback has an integrated SpeedKnob that allows tool-free installation. The knob controls an anti-rattle wedge on the shank. Simply turn the knob to tighten the bike rack shank in your hitch receiver. This not only secures the rack to your vehicle, but also reduces noise and movement of the rack in your hitch. An included hitch pin is attached to the bike rack shank with a lanyard so you won't lose it.

The rack works with both 1-1/4" and 2" hitches. To use it in a 1-1/4" hitch, simply remove the red adapter and wedge extension with the included Allen key.

Easy Access to Rear Cargo Area

Yakima RidgeBack 5 Bike Rack Rear Cargo Access

The Ridgeback's mast tilts so you won't need to remove the rack for rear hatch clearance. And the UpperHand control lever is conveniently located near the top of the mast, so you won't need to bend over to reach a lever or pin at the base of the rack.

Bike Rack Security

Yakima RidgeBack locking SpeedKnob

The SpeedKnob includes a Yakima Same Key System (SKS) lock core. This lock prevents a would-be thief from being able to loosen the knob and remove the rack from your hitch. Add a HandCuff cable lock (Y02466 - sold separately) to secure your bikes to the rack.

SKS cores can be swapped out if you own other Yakima products and want to use the same key to lock them all.

Compact Storage

Yakima Ridgeback 5 Bike Rack Lays Flat for Easy Storage

The RidgeBack easily folds flat for compact storage. Use the TriggerFinger control lever to fold the arms down. Then use the UpperHand lever to fold up the shank.

Yakima RidgeBack 5 Bike Bottle Openers

The RidgeBack includes 2 built-in, machined-steel bottle openers in case your beverage of choice doesn't have a twist-off cap.

Everything works as it should. Hard to get multiple bikes with drop-down handlebars immediately adjacent to each other on the rack, but no problem getting them all on there with kids bikes in the middle.

Works great on our Subarus. We've had 5 bikes on it a few times! TWO 20" bmx bikes, ONE 24" girls mountain bike, TWO 26" Mountains bikes for me n wife... It was a tight fit, a few scratches from bikes rubbing against each other, but it is doable! I'd recommend it for anyone that needs a good strong carrier.

Rack is very easy to install and remove, and fits well with no rattle in the 2" receiver. Loading bikes is easy and it will, indeed, hold 5 bikes with relatively little effort. The only negatives I have are 1) Unless I use Yakima's custom locking cable for this rack, there is no good way to lock bicycles to the rack 2) It wasn't clear to me that I would need adapter bars (8002531) for kids bikes. I've always managed to get them on my older racks, but not the Yakima. I suspect that most modern racks would need these bars. Overall, very satisfied.

Fantastic! We love the Yakima bike rack, have used it multiple times since purchase, including on a 600-mile round trip. Met all of my expectations. Bikes move a little, and at first it was disconcerting. But even over large bumps at 70+ mph there was no evidence of any shifting of the load, and the bikes remained secure. It is quite difficult to fit 5 bikes (2 adult and 3 children's bikes) on the bike rack, but with some creativity I was able to make it happen. I can't imagine how you would fit 5 adult bikes on here, however. Overall I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. Great service from the folks at eTrailer.com as well! I received the package within 3 days of purchase (at 3 pm in the afternoon, no less!).

I have owned this bike rack for one year. I has travelled thousands of miles on the back of multiple vehicles hauling usually two adult bikes or two adult and two youth bikes. Getting five bikes on here is not really possible for bikes with wide handlebars and standard pedals. The rack is still in very good shape and is easy to store and install. The tilt function allows the empty rack to move out of the way of the SUV hatch opening.

I was grateful to so many others who wrote reviews on this website and praised the customer service. I was looking for a trailer to haul 5 bikes including womens and kids bikes and have it work on my husbands Jeep wrangler, my daughters Subaru Outback, occasionally an RV and mainly my Toyota Sienna that doesn't even have a hitch yet. With so many options online and seemingly different products for each one, I wanted help to know if there was any product that could help me meet all me needs, so I decided to call Etrailer and get some help. They were amazing just like everyone said! He recommend the Yakima Ridgeback which would meet all our different hitch needs and the best selling Kuat Ubar adaptor bars that would make it work for our women's and kids bikes and different hitch needs. And the best surprise of all is that he told me they even carried hitch packages for my Toyota! I hadn't even expected that. The quote I received from my Toyota dealer for installing a hitch was going to cost me over $1000! But Etrailer sent me one for under $200! I am excited to get our whole family out biking more together this summer and thanks to etrailer we got everything we needed and all shipped to Alaska for only a hundred bucks in less than 2 weeks! The man on the phone explained how my husband could install the hitch himself, but after looking at it yesterday, he decided to take it to a local shop where they can raise the whole car for the install. But that will still be cheaper than what I thought I would have to pay before. We are planning to get the hitch on our van this week and try out the bike trailer by the weekend. Thanks for everything etrailer!!

The Yakima rack is great. Very solid and easy to use. It takes me a few minutes to mount it. 5 bikes ride just fine.

Like recent reviews i did my homework to find the concerns that prior purchasers had about the product. 1 was that the bike rack would move all over the place as if it was going to break. While driving that concern passed the test. 2 difficulty for 5 bike install, buy the bike adapter bars they help and are necessary, very easy to install rack and bikes if done correctly. I am very satisfied with the bike rack and would recommend. our first trip was 700 miles round trip on a truck 4x4 very bumpy compared to regular trucks and cars so it passed the double beating.

have being sold my old 4 bike rack and with additional riders graduating to bigger bikers among our ranks (we have 4 kids) it was needed to upgrade to this unit. Easy to install and better system than the old wobble bolt that i had to drag a wrench instead of the knob now a days! it's a tight for 5 bikes but doable! recommended

Review from a similar RidgeBack in Hitch Bike Racks

I have the Yakima fullback trunk bike rack and it was really good for my Honda Civic. Now when I traded in the rhe civic for an MDX i need a hitch trailer and a new bike rack. Luckily I find both in etrailer and ordered them. I’ve been using them for a year now and so far it was good. I only use two bikes for this rack so far. I made a mistake because I didnt know there was a full version of this similar to my other trunk bike that comes with built-in security cable. Next time i have to do more research. But dont get me wrong. This is a good tilt bike rack too. Check out the yakima swing arm also.

Review from a similar RidgeBack in Hitch Bike Racks

I used this product twice to go back and forth on a 700 mile trip (1400 miles total). My initial impression was that it was sturdy because it was larger than most 2 bike carriers I've seen. The strapping system is convenient and the locking system worked great. The only flaw so far is that one of the locking mechanisms actually broke off. After closer inspection, I realized that the parts are plastic. I'm not sure what actually caused it to break other than the force of hitting a pothole causing the bike to bounce on the rack. Those types of forces should be expected with normal driving however and I expected the locking mechanism to hold up. I was fairly disappointed that it happened given the asking price and the reviews I read prior to my purchase. Other than the locking mechanism on the actual bike rack, I wouldn't put to much faith in the red handled locking pin that inserts into the trailer hitch and insertion bar portion of the bike rack. It is understood that the pin does not go all the way through the insertion bar as the locking mechanism is inside and prevents further advancement. Yakima could probably improve this aspect of the product. I will be contacting Yakima to see if they will replace the broken part. One thing I did notice was that the broken bracket is screwed in and can be removed/replaced fairly easily. I have included pics of the broken bracket and working bracket for comparison. Hope this helps in your decision!

Review from a similar RidgeBack in Hitch Bike Racks

Shopped around for different bike racks at different places locally and online. Prices varied quite a bit. I decided to check Etrailer because I have ordered from them before, they have a great selection and their prices are fair and quite often, as low as any you'll find. In this instance, their price was the lowest and they offered free shipping. And for a bike rack, shipping costs are not insignificant. This Yakima RidgeBack4 turned out to be a good choice and I have been extremely satisfied with it. I also purchased the HandCuff Bike Lock as an accessory and it was easy to install on the rack. I would without question recommend Etrailer for your next purchase.

Review from a similar RidgeBack in Hitch Bike Racks

Carried 2 bikes from North Texas to Northern Colorado on the back of a civic coupe, through high winds and mountain passes. This rack is very sturdy. It was a little tough to get out of the hitch receiver the first time, very snug fit. I now need to get a hitch receiver on my Miata so that I can continue to use this rack.

  • Most Versatile Hitch Mounted Bike Rack for Use with Multiple Different Types of Bikes
The most amount of bikes you can carry on a hitch mounted bike rack is five with a hanging bike rack like the Yakima RidgeBack 5 Bike Rack part # Y02459. However, a hanging bike rack like the above is not your most versatile option because it will require an adapter bar like the Yakima Tube Top Bike Adapter Bar part # Y02531 for bikes with an alternative frame which are pretty common. The most versatile option is a platform bike rack but this will only allow you to carry up to four bikes. Out...

  • Can 5 Bikes Really Fit on the Yakima RidgeBack Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Carrier
I am sure, it can fit 5 bikes, at least it has spots for 5 bikes. But it is a challenge to get 5 on there on any 5 bike hanging rack. If you have not done so already, remove the bikes and then move the cradles forward/backward as needed. You will probably want the cradles at the front and back to be all the way to the front and back, respectively. Then it is a matter of turning pedals and Tetris-like maneuvering to get all the bikes on there. This is an issue with most 4 and 5 bike racks....

I went down to our showroom and measured a Yakima RidgeBack Bike Rack, # Y02459. From the bottom of the shank that fits into the receiver to the top of the bike rack measures 44 inches. I have added a picture that shows this dimension. The DoubleDown bike racks only fit on Class II and Class III trailer hitches. I recommend a platform style bike rack because it will be much easier to load bikes on it. The most popular platform bike rack we carry for a Class I trailer hitch is the Swagman...

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack for 5 Bikes for a 2011 Toyota Sienna with a Class II, 1-1/4 Inch Hitch
Since you have a Class II trailer hitch with a 1-1/4 inch receiver, there is only 1 bike rack option if you wanted a 5 bike rack. Take a look at the Yakima RidgeBack 5, # Y02459. This rack can hold 5 bikes and it fits either a Class II, 1-1/4 or Class III, 2 inch trailer hitch receiver. It has a straight shank so if you where to measure from level ground up to the bottom of the receiver opening, that will tell you the amount of ground clearance there will be. The arms and the mast...

  • Recommended 5-Bike Rack for 2019 Ford Flex
The 5-bike rack I highly recommend for your 2019 Ford Flex is the Yakima FullTilt 5 Bike Rack # Y02463 because it is by far the easiest 5-bike rack to use and has integrated safety features to help protect your investment. The convenience of the FullTilt starts right out of the box because unlike most racks it does not require any type of assembly. Once you insert the FullTilt into your hitch, it's AutoPin snaps into the hitch pin hole so you aren't down on the ground trying to insert...

  • Hitch for 2000 Jeep Wrangler that Allows Yakima Ridgeback Bike Rack to Fit
Since you need a hitch to install a bike rack let's first start with that as that's the key to allowing a hitch bike rack to fit. For that the best option is the Curt part # 13408 as it will give you the needed clearance for the Yakima RidgeBack 5 Bike Rack # Y02459 to fit. You'd have right at 5 inches of clearance between the back of the bike rack mast and the rear spare of your vehicle.

  • Will the Yakima RidgeBack 5 Bike Hitch Mounted Folding Rack Accommodate Childrens Bikes
The Yakima RidgeBack 5 Bike Rack, part # Y02459 should be able to accommodate most childrens bikes that have a top bar that is at least 13 inches long, measured from the seat post and handle bar stem post. If you have a girls bike, the cradles on the rack swivel which would allow many attachment options, reducing the need for a frame adapter.

As long as you had a hitch on your 2010 Toyota Rav4 like the Draw Tite Hitch part # 36588 then yes, the Yakima RidgeBack 5 Bike Carrier # Y02459 that you referenced would work well for you. Check out the install videos I attached for both products I just mentioned. • Trailer Hitch Bike Rack Recommendation for Use Behind an RV
There are only certain bike racks that are rated for use behind an RV by the manufacturer. I have included a link to them for you to view. Out of the trailer hitch mounted racks that are compatible, I recommend the Swagman Original, # S64400. Of the hitch mount RV bike racks, it has the highest capacity at 4 bikes. According to Swagman, the Swagman Original, # S64400, measures over 13 inches from the center of the first hitch pin hole to the back of the upright bar. As long as the distance...
