Which Anti-Rattle Clamp Is Best For Electric Bike Rack To Keep It Stable?

Updated 02/11/2025 | Published 01/20/2025

Question:

Can this be used on a bike rack or is just for towing? I have a cool ebike with a carrier I bought from you guys and I want to find a way to make it a little more stable and less noisy. It does have an anti rattle hitch pin but I feel like I need more reassurance to reduce wobble.

Hey there Lisa, hope you're having a great day. So you actually brought up a really good question. The etrailer Anti-Rattle Hitch Collar for 2" Hitch Receivers # e38FV uses a gate that comes down and makes contact with the shank of the bike rack or ball mount, and this will not interfere with the hitch pin that is included in some bike racks, such as with the Yakima OnRamp LX Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 2" Hitches # Y88DJ. The etrailer clamp will be more effective in stabilizing the rack, especially with the extra weight of electric bikes pushing that bike rack around.

Now if you had a different bike rack like the Hollywood Racks Crosstrack Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # HLY67RR, then the etrailer clamp wouldn't be a good fit since this bike rack uses a W shaped shank (see photo). The gate in the etrailer clamp wouldn't be able to clamp down on the shank very well, so while it may work fine, I wouldn't recommend it on a shank like that. You'd instead want something that clamps around externally like with the etrailer anti-rattle clamp # e99007. Some W-shaped shanks will still be compatible, such as ball mounts, but some bikes racks that have a 1-1/4" to 2" adapter that is W-shaped may not work.

As always, feel free to reply below and let me know if you have any other thoughts, questions, or concerns.

I have an HR1500 that I haven't opened the box yet (waiting on camping season) and don't know if I have the W shaped shank, so I don't know which anti-rattle to purchase. Thanking you in advance for you help.

@Rod Hey there Rod, I double checked that part number to be sure, and it does not use the W shape shank. So you're good to go! Let me know if you end up going with this anti-rattle device, I personally like using it on my truck.
