Hardwiring trailer lights can be tricky, especially on vehicles with sensitive electronics. The Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector and Install Kit takes the headache out of the job. Its powered converter draws power directly from the vehicle battery, protecting thin factory wiring from overload and ensuring the trailer lights work reliably every time.
This harness is built to handle any lighting configuration you run into—whether your vehicle has separate turn and brake circuits, combined systems, or LED tail lights. That flexibility makes it a solid choice for wiring vehicles with advanced light setups or multiplexed systems. It delivers consistent power to the trailer without triggering warning lights or faults.
The converter’s circuit protection keeps your vehicle’s electrical system safe from shorts or overdraw caused by trailer wiring issues. Rated at 3 amps for stop/turn circuits and 6 amps for running lights, it’s engineered to feed trailer lights clean power without stressing the vehicle’s factory circuits.

This kit comes complete with a 4-flat trailer connector and a basic circuit tester that helps identify the correct vehicle wires during setup. Once connected, you’ll have standard running, turn, and brake light functions ready to go for most small trailers or cargo carriers.
The included power wire runs straight to the vehicle battery instead of tapping into accessory outlets. That dedicated circuit gives you a solid power source for the trailer lights and avoids failures caused by overloaded accessory circuits. It’s a straightforward wiring solution built for dependable towing performance.

Do not connect the converter’s 12-volt power wire to an accessory circuit such as a cigarette lighter; it must have a dedicated circuit directly to the vehicle battery to prevent damage or warranty issues.

This wiring harness part C59496 is considered a universal fit because it is not a plug and play custom fit application. It can be hardwired into many different vehicles. If you needed extra wire for your vehicle, I recommend part # DW02412-1 for extra 14 gauge wire.

Before you test the harness with a circuit tester like item # PTW2992 can you please remove the fuse on the power wire for 30 minutes, then reinstall it. This fuse should be located close to the vehicle battery in a fuse box. If the powered converter box has engaged its circuit protection feature, this will reset the box unless it was overloaded and it was damaged.

I wish to apologize thinking there was an issue with the converter when there wasnt, the next day I did a check and because I infact thought I needed to connect the brake red wire directly to the brake switch and not the multi-purpose red and green wire on my 08 Lincoln. It works great when you wire it correctly.
