Hi, Are you able to inform when a plug and play 4 pin wiring harness will be made available for the 2026 Volkswagen Tiguan?

I completely understand wanting to wait for a true plug and play harness on a brand new Tiguan because nobody wants to start cutting into factory wiring or chasing lighting issues on a newer vehicle. The good news is that Curt does have a custom fit plug and play 4 pin harness in development for the 2026 Volkswagen Tiguan, part C56RJ.

Right now, Curt still has the harness listed as coming soon, but unfortunately they have not released an official ETA yet. The harness is actively being developed and will be a direct plug in style setup once available, so it should give you the clean OEM style installation you are looking for without splicing into the taillight wiring.

If you end up needing trailer wiring immediately before the custom harness releases, the current alternative would be a universal hardwired option like the Curt part # C59496, but I completely understand wanting to avoid that route if your goal is a clean factory style install.

What are you planning to tow first with your Tiguan, a utility trailer, small camper, or bikes?

@JorgeT I wish I had a better timeline for you, but Curt has not provided an ETA yet. Hopefully testing and production move along quickly since there are already quite a few 2026 Tiguan owners looking for the same thing. What do you typically use the utility trailer for, home projects, landscaping, or hauling recreational gear?

It's been several months since the last post. Are there any updates on the C56RJ development. I'm about to pull the trigger on a 06 Tiguan but it is dependent on a plug and play wiring harness being available. I'm not finding any reference to it online though I'd check.

@Marc I haven't heard anyting from Curt about this wiring harness. Honestly, I wouldn't purchase a vehicle based on it if it were me.

@HeatherA I have a 26 TIguan Turbo. There is NO OPTION for the wiring harness, I was at the dealer again today. VW advertises towing capacity and yet there is no option to put lights on your trailer. I never would have bought the car. Missed an entire summer of kayaking without use of my trailer. In the spring I bought an after market hitch from etrailer and had it installed. That part works fine. The shop tried to wire a VW harness that fit a 24 Tiguan and it screwed up much of the safety features along with check engine light on. Had to remove the harness and reprogram software to fix the safety features (cruise control, lane control, etc). The check engine light is still on and can't be fixed. VW is now telling me that this voided the warranty if the incorrect part fried any of the software. Don't mess with the wiring on the new Tiguans. VW has no business advertising towing on these vehicles.
