Good morning Don.

The custom-fit plug and play Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56RJ for your 2026 VW Tiguan is still preorder as of now (3-9-26). Unfortunately I can't see when they will show up, so I recommend checking back with us in the next week or two. Sorry about that.

For now, a universal option like # C59496 would work but it needs to be hardwired in, so I'd highly recommend waiting for the plug and play option if you can. On a newer nice vehicle like that I'd hate to have you splicing in wires. Not that it's terribly difficult, but plug and play is the way to go for sure.

What are you planning on towing with it?

@AndrewN will there be a wiring harness for the 2025 Tiguan as well. I'm assuming it's the same as the 2026. VW really dropped the ball on this one. They boast best in class towing capacity and don't have a hitch or a wiring assembly.

@Mark Hey Mark, it would be the same parts. It's unfortunate that VW doesn't have a solution and the Curt custom-fit solution is still on preorder only; I hope it arrives on our shelves very soon! If you need a solution now, the only thing that could be done is a universal splice-in option like # C59496. We do have a hitch that fits your Tiguan though, with part # C99RJ.

Seeing the custom option could be a long time off, how about providing a video of how to install the universal option on the 2026 Tiguan? I have one but do not even know where to begin to access taillight wiring.I don't want to start ripping off panels that don't need to be removed and risk damaging something.

@ShawnW I keep searching for a video on this too since a custom option doesn't seem to be coming anytime soon. Has anyone tried the universal option yet and got it to work? I keep reading it doesn't work on the 25 and newer Tiguans...

@NickK I finally got the nerve to try it and it worked! I have a 2026 comfort R line (not the one with the 260hp turbo) and installed the Curt 59496 universal wiring harness. Was straight forward after I figured out how to access the tail light wiring. Basically take the trunk floor board out and foam tray, pop the plastic trim guard along the back out, remove the screw hidden under the latch to release the rear seats on both sides, remove the hidden screw inside the black plastic "knob" or grommet on the side walls just behind the rear seats on both sides, then the carpet and plastic trim can be popped out enough ( it's all one piece) to unplug the connector to the small side trunk lights. This will allow you to pull the side panel back far enough to access the tail lights. On my Canadian model, for the left tail light, black with white stripe was left turn, red is brake, brown is ground, and black with violet stripe is running/tail lights. On the right side you only need to tap into the right turn wire which was black with a green stripe. Attach the white ground wire of the converter to the chassis behind the left panel (I drilled a small hole and used the self tapping screw that comes with it) then run the black power cable up to the front to attach to the battery. There was a floor grommet behind the left panel that I drilled a hole through and ran the wire through it to get it outside the vehicle. You can pretty much tuck it under the fabric chassis panel all the way to the front. just keep it away from hot/moving/sharp parts. Tested it on my trailer and no issues!
