Is There A Good Quality 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver For 2025 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness Edition?

Updated 11/25/2025 | Published 11/20/2025

Question:

Will this TowSmart hitch fit my 2025 Crosstrek Wilderness? I read that the Wilderness models sometimes sit higher and thought older generation needed different parts, like roof rack maybe? idk.

Good question, Megan - and you’re right, the Wilderness sits higher and is rated for 3,500 lbs towing (more than other trim levels), but the TowSmart hitch # TS68ZR does fit that model perfectly too. The cross tube is slightly more visible on Wilderness trims because of the different bumper design, but it bolts right up using the factory frame holes with no drilling required.

The install’s pretty DIY-friendly - should complete it in under an hour, especially if you have a helper to hold the hitch in place. We have it rated for about 40 minutes, and I think that is accurate since I've done some similar installs myself in about an hour or less.

Planning to tow or just use it for a rack / cargo carrier? If towing a trailer, you'll also want to get a wiring kit 4 way like # 119147KIT and maybe a ball mount kit if you don't already have one, such as # 989891.

Thanks, Andrew! I’ll probably start out with a bike rack and maybe add a cargo carrier later. Does this hitch sit low enough that I’ll have clearance ?

@Megan Yes - on the Wilderness, the TowSmart # TS68ZR sits a little higher than on the standard Crosstrek, so you’ll actually gain nearly an inch of extra clearance. You’ll be around 15 inches from the ground to the top of the receiver, and about 13-1/2" from the ground to the bottom of the receiver opening. How many bikes do you have? I can get you started with a couple nice bike rack options! For example, a really popular and economical option is the Hollywood Racks Destination Bike Rack for 4 Bikes # HR4000. It's really simple to setup and use.
