Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side rear access panel. You will have to remove the floor covering, rear cargo area cover, and scuff panel to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Powered converter reduces strain on wiring system and is made using SMT to ensure superior performance.The installation was a bit more involved than the eTrailer video suggests - on the 2024 RAV4 Prime, you have to remove the plastic molding that holds the jack tools and the jack in order to bend the side molding far enough away from the vehicle so that you gain enough room to install the wiring. But the harness itself is quite elegant, so kudos on this piece!
I bought this for my new Toyota RAV4. Installation guide was complete and easy to understand and simple to install. Everything fit PERFECTLY! This is my 2nd time using E-tailer as I used their product on my previous Honda Element. My experience with E-trailer's products can save you a considerable amount of money on installation costs, for a minimal time and effort.
Your packaging is terrible. Come on! The hitch has poked through the box in (4) places. Paint already missing. To cheap to provide adequate packaging. Never again and never recommended!
It would have been an easier install but for two issues.
#1 Toyota did not make it easy to run the wires. Give yourself plenty of time to get around Toyota's love of fasteners.
#2 I thought I could do it without the tester.

2022 Rav-4 Hybrid Limited
The harness works great. Plug and play! I drilled a hole for the ground in a more convenient spot..but that was about it. I bought a simple mounting bracket for the 4 pole connector which I hard mounted to the side of the receiver tube by drilling and tapping. I like equipment ready and user friendly when I'm ready to use it.
Quality parts and instructions. Hardest part was finding a way into the pickup cab, getting wire through the firewall and splicing wire way up under the dash. Installed on '21 Ford Ranger Lariat.
Another awesome purchase, very easy to setup I was surprised. When I read I had to run a wire from the battery I almost stopped but the video online showed how easy it was and I'm glad I did it. Such a clean install, no tape, no wires hanging out, hides in the spare tire well when not using, perfect!
Quality is probably fine but video completely neglects two important steps. The U Haul video on the subject is actually helpful. The PDF instructions are also a waste of time. The mechanic completely ignores that one has to attach the wiring to the actual tail light wiring harness. In the early video one can see that he had already done so, but it is never mentioned. So if one follows your video one is left with two wiring harnesses that are simply dangling free. Of course that shouldn’t be, so the UHaul video actually shows an installer how to do the two harness attachments. Another disappointing video.
Good working system. All parts are there for the installation.
I would give 5 stars if the system was designed with the controller mounted on the right (passenger) side of the vehicle. The Rav4 Hybrid has an easy access to the battery at the back of the vehicle on the right side.
The current configuration requires more work and time to remove the trim panels and guiding the power wire
Besides that, great product and excellent service from etrailer.com, as always.

This is a review of the packaging of the trailer hitch, electric harness and locking connector. The items were placed in a box and delivered to my driveway with no packaging material to be seen. Huge holes and the powder coating scrapped off. Heavy meatal items have made large holes in both long sides of the box and not sure if it is worth installing to see if bending or wiring harness has been compromised.
Delivered in just a few days with all the parts needed, put it on by myself in an hour (thanks for the hint in your video to lower the exhaust on my Rav4). So far so good. On to the wiring harness next.
Very easy to install in about an hour and works great on my 2021 Rav 4 Prime. Most of the installation time was actually removing and re-installing the trim. I would recommend another set of hands to hold back the side panel trim unless you take it all the way off.

Wiring harness still works great after 1 year! Easy to access when its needed and no issues with connections or function.
This wiring harness was described accurately in the advertisement and was a straightforward install. I am only a happy homeowner so had some challenges snaking the wiring to the battery connector, but that wasn't related to the product. I only use the connector intermittently, so chose to put the wire into my spare tire area until used, then flop it out under the rear hatch.
It was a good choice , hidden hitch is not necessary to achieve the perfect fit and not extend beyond the bumper.
Very well made and easy to install. Perfect for my Bike Rack.
Worked well, but had to replace one of the crimp connectors due to my own mistake.
One year later, my harness works perfectly. In fact, I had forgotten all about it until I was contacted for follow up.
I would have gave 5 stars but the shipping box was in very bad shape, surprisingly nothing was damaged or missing. A little black spray paint to hide some minor scratches and it was good . a parts fit and worked great , very happy
This is the 3rd hitch I have purchased from etrailer. The installation on all 3 went smoothly. They fit in the existing holes, so no drilling needed. The wire harness was installed as a plug in situation. Thanks for the good quality..

Good quality product. The toughest part is removing some of the plastic panels of the car to gain access to the wiring harness
Included instructions were easy to follow. In addition I watched a video from Etrailer of the installation.
I recently ordered a Class 3 hitch and T-Style wiring harness system from Curt for my Rav4 Adv. The parts arrived at my doorstep on a Wednesday afternoon as promised, and I had completed the DIY install with the help from etrailer’s [online] videos for my car’s make and model that same night. Hardware fits great and appears to have strong welds and a solid protective coating, and the wiring system was completely plug and play as marketed. Recommended to me by a family member, and I would further recommend this product to any stranger.
Product was great. On the install, it will be difficult to torque the passenger side bolts when only a flat wrench can turn the bolts (requiring a new special tool). A standard torque wrench worked fine on the driver side. The prior reviews mention the packing, and as expected the packing came with several holes where the receiver stuck through the box. I am glad I knew this, because I have a Trex decking on the front porch and was able to lay carpet down. Without that I would have definitely had porch damage/scars. The mounting plates of the receiver need to have foam protecting them or the whole packaging needs to be re-thought.
