Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the trim access cover, scuff panels, and tail lights to access these connection points. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead to your car battery, which can be found in your trunk on the passenger's side. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your trunk.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

It has performed very well and the excellent installation video was all that was needed to install the frame hitch and wiring kit. The Curt wiring kit, as your tech explained has just enough wire to be long enough to make the plug into the tail light. If you fail to know that in advance it is easy to route the wiring where it would not reach. This was by far the easiest frame mounted receiver style hitch and wiring kit we have installed so far. The height of the Jeep frame allows the entire installation of hitch and wiring to be done without the use of our wheel ramps. Let me touch on an issue that William mentioned, the use of a Swagman platform wheel mount hitch on a Jeep with spare tire mounted in the center of the tailgate on newer Wranglers. This position creates two challenges whether you use the Allen style top tube support style or the one I we installed. The Allen style require the backup camera to be relocated as the bike rack center pillar will obscure it, the Swedman wheel mount style requires use of a 2" to 11/4" extension plus the wheel brackets must be removed and turned upside down to allow the spare tire and tailgate to open completely. Lastly, IMHO all Swedman racks with 1 1/4" mounting frame should be supported with a cable under tension at the highest position possible to relieve the forces created by bicycle weights within specs. As e-assist bikes become more popular it is very easy to exceed the design weight of rack construction. Even two Huffy beach cruiser bikes that are within rack weight design put a lot of stress on this style rack. Not going to debate this issue, had a failure of the center support 1 1/4" beam years ago with significant damage to the two road bikes when beam structurally collapsed.

This harness was a simple plug and play. . Hardest part was running positive wire to the front to the battery. No easy on a fat boy. But got it. Only complaint was the green wire with harness to the passenger side needs to be at least a foot longer. I actually added 2 feet on mine and gave me plenty of room to work. Great product th

Hi William, I'd like to get a little more detail on how this wasn't a direct fit. I have linked the installation video and at about the 6 minutes mark you can see this harness will connect to your taillights. Does your plug resemble the one in the video?
