Malone Canoe Carrier with Tie-Downs - Foam Block Style - 6" Long - MPG156

Average Customer Rating:  4.8 out of 5 stars   (12 Customer Reviews)

This kit makes it easy to carry a canoe on most roof rack crossbars and naked roofs. Foam blocks provide a safe surface between your vehicle and boat. Included straps and tie-downs ensure that your canoe stays in place during transport.

Great product, same as the one I used hundreds of times, that got accidentally left in the trunk when I sold an old car. I've carried different canoes, on different car tops, for distances of 5 to 1,200 miles without any problems. A quick, rough count of 6,000 miles.
I like this style because:
A. there are no straps running through the cabin.
B. The pool noodles scratch the roof when they slide and blow away when they break.
C. I've even used them on a SUV that had a roof rack to keep my nice wooden gunnels from getting dented or scratched.
D. I can run shuttle again.

Works exactly as advertised and fits nicely in the bag that they sent. The bag itself isn't of highest quality, but the actual stuff I ordered (pads, tie straps, and ropes/hooks) is excellent!

Have not had a chance to use it, but product seems well made and I am satisfied with the purchase.

Worked like a charm carrying our canoe to Maine

Excellent canoe carrier. Exactly as advertised. Works like a charm for my 16 ft canoe on top of my Prius!

Arrived in time to be used. Thank you!

  • Recommended Kayak And Canoe Roof Top Carrier For Toyota RAV-4 With Factory Crossbars
The Malone SeaWing Kayak Carrier and Load Assist w/ Tie-Downs - Rear Loading - Clamp On # MPG113MD can absolutely be removed easily from the factory crossbars on your Toyota RAV4 when you are wanting to carry a canoe instead. When you are ready to carry your canoe I recommend using the Malone Canoe Carrier with Tie-Downs - Foam Block Style # MPG156 which will protect your canoe from running on your crossbars, and the included tie downs will keep it secure on the roof of your RAV4. I included...

  • Can a Canoe be Carried on a Rhino-Rack Roof Basket on a 2012 Toyota 4Runner
You could carry a canoe on the Rhino-Rack basket # RMCB02 but I recommend adapting some foam blocks # MPG156 to protect the canoe and the basket. Also you will need to make sure that the combined weight of the canoe and the basket does not exceed the roof rack capacity or the vehicle roof weight carrying capacity, which ever is lower. Consult the vehicle owners manual and/or Toyota for the roof capacity on your 2012 Toyota 4Runner. Ideally, though, you would remove the basket and put the...

  • Temporary Solution for Transporting Canoe on Toyota Prius with Naked Roof
As a temporary solution a foam block style carrier is a really good option to transport a single canoe on top of your friend's 2014 Toyota Prius that isn't already equipped with a roof rack. For this I specifically recommend the Malone Canoe Carrier # MPG156, which includes the foam blocks themselves that will attach to the gunwale on the canoe and sit right on the Prius' naked roof, along with all the necessary tie-down straps. Just be sure to clean your buddy's roof before mounting the...

  • How to Carry a Canoe on a 2013 Toyota Prius with a Bare Roof
If your Prius has a bare roof then the only option for carrying a canoe would be a foam block carrier like # MPG156. Otherwise you would have to install a roof rack. We have different roof rack fits for the different 2013 Prius models: Prius, Prius c, Prius plug-in, and Prius V. I want to make the right recommendation so if you are interested in a roof rack please let me know the specific model.

If your 2015 Subaru Outback has the factory roof rack with crossbars that run side to side then you can use the Yakima KeelOver, # Y04069, as a direct fit. If your Outback does not have factory crossbars then you can use a carrier designed for naked roofs such as # MPG156.

  • Canoe Carrier for 2010 Ford Flex that Doesnt Require a Roof Rack Installed
For an entry level canoe carrier solution the Malone Canoe Carrier part # MPG156 that you referenced would be a great option. It doesn't require a set of crossbars to install either so you'll save money in that area as well. The tie-downs are included.

  • How to Carry a Canoe on the Naked Roof of a 2013 Toyota Prius V
The Yakima foam blocks Y04056 could be a good option for a naked roof 2013 Toyota Prius V. But I recommend the Malone foam blocks # MPG156 since they are less expensive and because Yakima has stopped making the foam blocks. To attach it to a vehicle with a naked roof you would first make sure the bottoms of the pads and the roof are clean. Then you would set the canoe down next to the vehicle so that it over hangs the front and rear of the roof evenly. Next you will place the blocks on...

  • Roof Canoe Carrier System for Use with Hitch Load Support on 2018 Hyundai Ioniq
All roof racks currently made for your 2018 Hyundai Ioniq, shown on the linked page, consist of two crossbars and the related foot assemblies. But since you have a hitch support like the Malone Axis # MPG907 to hold one end of your canoe I do have a good solution for you that will cost much less. We offer canoe carriers that do not require any roof rack crossbar. These cost-effective carriers include items like the Malone Canoe Carrier with Tie-Downs # MPG156. This kit includes 4 foam...

  • Recommended Canoe Carrier for 2012 Subaru Outback with Factory Crossbars
For the factory crossbars on your 2012 Subaru Outback, I would recommend the Malone Foam Block Rooftop Canoe Carrier, part # MPG156. The foam blocks used to support the canoe can be mounted to the crossbars, or can be placed directly on the roof surface. The kit includes the foam blocks, tie down straps and the bow and stern lines used to secure the canoe to the front and rear of the vehicle. If you decide to use the foam blocks directly on the vehicle roof, be sure the blocks and the...

  • Recommended Reasonably-Priced Canoe Carrier for 2012 Honda Odyssey w/ Bare Roof
The Malone canoe carrier you've looked at, part # MPG156 would be an excellent choice that's reasonably priced. The kit contains 4 foam blocks that slip over the gunwales of the canoe and protect the roof. Two straps for securing the canoe to the roof (run straps through car doors) and tie downs for the canoe's bow and stern are also included. You might also be interested in anchor straps like # RRRBAS. You'd close the straps in the vehicle hood and rear hatch to provide an attachment...

  • Can Malone MAL63FR EcoLight Sport Trailer Carry 15 Foot Canoe
The Malone # MAL63FR is meant for boats up to 14 feet in length. As your Old Town Saranac 146DLX is almost 15 feet long, the # MAL63FR wouldn't be a good choice as the bow of the canoe would sit too close to the rear of the tow vehicle which could possibly damage the canoe or vehicle. I'd recommend a longer trailer like # MPG460G which can handle boats up to 20 feet long, which would work better with your canoe. To secure the canoe to the trailer's crossbars, you can use the # MPG156...

  • Recommendation for TracRac Ladder Rack With Extension Carrying a Canoe Having Cab Contact
The T-Rac Pro2 Truck Bed Ladder Rack w/ Over-the-Cab Extension # TH37002XT-EX has a height above the bed rails of 27-1/4 inches. There is not a height adjustment available for the TracRac systems. Since you are having issues with your canoe hitting the cab, it sounds like you have too much weight to the front of the system or there is too much of a curve in the canoe, so you may want to start by adjusting the canoe's ride position so the weight is better supported. If you still have...

  • Do You Sell 96 Inch Crossbars to Mount a Canoe on My Adventurer Camper?
I think I have a possible solution to the problem. Unfortunately, they do not make crossbars that are 96 inches. However, if you are absolutely set on transporting your canoe on your Adventurer camper, you can always purchase a Swagman Roamer LT Roof Rack for Pop-Up Campers and Camper Shells - Steel - 7' Long - 150 lbs # S80510. TheErickson # EM07605 Big Bed Junior Load Extender for Truck Bed or Roof and the # DTA968 Turbo-Rack would be a good choice for you for transporting your canoe. Canoes typically weigh less than 100 lbs, and the roof portion of the truck would only be bearing 1/2 the weight of the canoe. Your roof should handle it with no problem whatsoever. I'd also recommend a canoe carrier kit, like part # MPG156. The kit contains foam blocks that will fit around the crossbars to protect the canoe from...

  • Carrying Canoe Level on 2016 Chevy Silverado with Leer 180 Camper Shell with Rear Incline
It would actually be better to have the canoe either all on the camper shell or all on the cab of the truck. When a load is split between the 2 it could result in problems because the truck bed can move some independently from the cab. The artificial rain gutters can be installed anywhere that you are willing to drill into. I do not recommend it on a 2016 Chevy Silverado because who wants to drill holes in the cab of a new truck! What you could do is use one Darby Turbo-Rack # DTA968...

Then for a foam block style canoe carrier we have the Malone Canoe Carrier part # MPG156 which will work well and is cost effective.
