Malone Crossbar Specs

Rear-Loading, Saddle-Style Carrier with Self-Adjusting Cradles

Malone saddles

This rear-loading, saddle-style carrier lets you transport 1 kayak, hull side down. Tilting cradles with rubber padding protect your boat from scratches and scuffs while loading and during transport. This padding also creates friction while you're pushing your kayak onto the carrier, making it less likely that you'll push the kayak too far and potentially have it fall off the carrier and hit your vehicle. Fabric covers on the rear cradles make it easier to push large kayaks onto carrier from the back of your vehicle.

Load Straps and Bow/Stern Tie-Downs

Malone hook

The carrier includes 2 cam-buckle straps to secure your kayak to the rack. A set of bow/stern tie-downs are also included to secure the kayak to the front and back of your vehicle. If your vehicle doesn't have any tie-down points, you can get an anchor kit (sold separately) which will let you create anchor points in the creases of your vehicle's hood and hatch.

Tool-Free, Clamp-On Installation

 Malone Saddle-Style Install

The carrier clamps to most crossbars without the need for tools. Simply set the carrier on your crossbars, slide the mounting brackets over the bolts, and secure them with the T-knobs.

These work great!

by:

Very friendly and fast haven’t used product yet but it looks like good quality Order many products from etrailer all have been of good quality and fast service

by:

The kayak saddles are an average Malone product. What is excellent is strainers service!

by:

I have two of these on my ladder rack. Makes loading the Kayaks really easy! Because of this, we've gone kayaking more frequently!

by:

Product is great, but it's not the real hero of this review. The real hero is etrailer. These guys are very easy to contact with real people at the other end ready to help anything anytime. I worked w/James on this last order and he was extremely helpful and response. Couldn't ask for a more simple process with great support and ease of business.

by:

Works great with my Thule Truck Bed Ladder Rack. The saddles hold my kayak very secure when traveling. I would recommend this product.

by:

Good Product, works well BUT......
Instead
of a felt like product that both Yakima and Thule use on the rear saddles. This Malone has a "sleeve" you slip on over rear saddle that after less than one year is already showing signs of developing a hole in the sleeve from wear.
Of Note: this product is removed in the winter so only used about 6 to 7 months so far. I could probably come up with another solution for the sleeves but having the felt attached so they slide on nice would be helpful and practical- the rubber front saddles would hold well.

by:

Excellent kayak carriers !! Strong and sturdy , they grab and hold extremely firm. You could easily get away with just strapping kayaks down at the crossbars and have absolutely no problems , esp. for short trips, although they supply and recommend the bow and stern tie downs also.
The channel mount hardware fits the thule xsporter pro cross bars like a glove, and I imagine it would fit other crossbar T-track systems as well. Easily adjustable to fit different types of kayaks. Liked them so much that I ordered a second set after using them . A bit on the pricey side, but the "wow factor" of sheer functionality, performance and piece of mind that comes with using these makes it worth it. highly recommend these carriers.

by:

The construction of this product was built with quality materials and I'm very satified with my purchase.

by:

Easy to slide 95 lbs kayak on truck rack, great support and holding up so far.

by:

The kayak saddle works amazingly well with my set up. I would definitely purchase again or recommend to a friend. I use it often, and it works well even with our strong beach winds.

by:

Overall a very high quality option for adding a kayak tie down system to your vehicle. While I was searching for a kayak tie down system this was the only one I found that was a channel mount system that worked with the Adarac line of truck rails. I have the ADARAC Black Matte Pro Series Truck Rack. When I went I install the the nuts that go into the T-channel are way to small and will not allow it to be tightened down. Also the actual mounts them selfs don’t fit the cross beam flush, this could cause the mount to slip to one side or the other of the cross beam. I’m going to looking at ordering the Adarac tie down loops as Adarac doesn’t sell just the channel nuts by them selfs.

by:

Timely order processing and quick shipm ents

by:

My kayak holder works exactly as it should. All parts were included and it was an extremely easy set up. etrailer’s customer service department was on top of everything and extremely helpful in placing my order.

by:

A complete package with everything needed, easy to install, I love my Malone kayak holders. Highly recommended.

by:

Excellent trailer.

by:

Very happy with trailer. Fairly easy to assemble but directions could be better. Took about 4 hours to build basic trailer by myself. Additional 1.5 hrs. to add carriers, spare tire, kick stand, etc.

by:

I am a first time buyer. Customer Service at etrailer.com is phenomenal in every respect. From on-call friendly support to product reviews and videos they nail it, this company knows how to do business!

Terrible. They slide on the rack while rolling down the road causing the tie down straps to loosen. Additionally you guys messed up the order so many times, we had to delay our trip by a few days. I’ll never buy from you again and have advised everyone who will listen not to.

by:

Excellent company to purchase from. They worked with me on a difficult application and I now have exactly what I wanted. I will purchase from them in the future I’m sure.

by:

I have ordered before and each time the orders go out in a timely fashon and the shipping time is great. The products are also great.

by:

Works great so far. Thinking of investing in a second saddle for our other kayak.

by:

Quality product. Easy assembly.

Great service !!!!

  • Recommended Roof Rack and Kayak Carrier for Flush Mounted Rails on 2014 Lexus GX 460
We can help you find the parts you're looking for, and really, if you're using a set of crossbars with T-slot mounting paired with accessories that mount in those channels the clearance from the roof won't be a factor. With that said, the Inno kit you mentioned would potentially work, but I do have something that has a bit taller towers to give you some extra clearance from the roof. I recommend using the Yakima Roof Rack for 2014 Lexus GX460 using parts # Y00425, # Y00145 and # Y28FR....

  • Which Malone Xtralight Trailer with Kayak Carrier Can Store Up On its End
The Malone XtraLight Trailer that you referenced does have bumpers on the rear of it but it does not have the retractable tongue like you mentioned so instead you'd want the part # MPG460XT which I attached a picture of in the storage position. You'd then also need the kayak carriers part # MPG110MD which come with the other trailer you mentioned.

  • Best Kayak Trailer for 4 Kayaks
I recommend using the Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer with Post Style Carrier for 4 Kayaks # MAL63FR because it allows you to carry all 4 kayaks where the MicroSport Trailer # MPG461GU is setup for 2 kayaks. The XtraLight trailer has a 275-lbs total capacity, so as long as your kayaks don't weigh more than that combined it would be a good choice to carry all your boats. The XtraLight is designed for use with a 2" hitch ball and comes with a 4 way trailer connector. If you need the added...

  • Best Kayak Carrier for a Truck Bed Ladder Rack
Yes, we do! The best one is going to be the Malone SaddleUp Pro Kayak Roof Rack w/ Tie-Downs item # MPG110MD. The SaddleUp is perfect because it is a rear-loading carrier, so it will be much easier to get your kayak up on top than a side-loading saddle-style carrier. It has fabric covers for the rear saddles as well, which makes it simpler to slide your kayak into position. The SaddleUp item # MPG110MD attaches to crossbars that are no larger then 3-1/2" wide x 1-1/2" tall so it'll work...

For your 14 foot Hobie Kayak, I recommend the Malone MicroSport Trailer # MPG460G w/SaddleUp Pro Kayak Carrier # MPG110MD. This trailer is overall 159 inches long and 78 inches wide. The kayak will fit well and rest in the cradles for stability and tie down functions. Your 14 foot kayak will fit well on this trailer and give you the turning clearance you need as well. It is designed for a maximum boat length of 20 feet. I've attached the installation details for you to assist.

  • Most Secure Way to Transport Large Kayak on 2016 Toyota 4Runner With Malone Roof Rack
What you are looking for to secure your large kayak on your 2016 Toyota 4Runner is called a saddle-style kayak carrier. That type of carrier is the most secure way to secure a larger kayak because the kayak remains on its hull and not turned over, and we do have a great option. The Malone roof racks that fit your 2016 Toyota 4Runner with raised rails are the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack # MPG216 (58" crossbars) and # MPG215 (50" crossbars) so I assume one of these racks are what you have...

The Malone SaddleUp Pro Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs # MPG110MD will not fit larger crossbars but we do have a solution with our Kuat kayak carriers. You can use the Class 2 # C2R1B which is a fixed arm carrier or the Class 4 # KU53VR which is a folding carrier. • J Style Recommendation For Malone Microsport XT Trailer
I recommend the Malone J-Pro2 Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs - J-Style - Fixed Arms - Side Loading, part # MPG117MD. J - style carriers offer more support and it is easier to carry boats with hulls of various shapes without having to readjust the rack. The j - style carrier also has a smaller footprint than other options. Since you will be using the kayak carrier for storage when not in use, its ability to fold is not an important feature. Nor is being able to attach a second boat to the...

The Malone MicroSport Trailer # MPG460G with the SaddleUp Pro Kayak Carrier # MPG110MD is only designed to carry 1 kayak unless you additional carriers. For a J-style carrier for that width, the best option is the Kuat Class 2 Kayak Carrier # C2R1B. I confirmed with my tech at Yakima that this carrier can accommodate a 34-inch wide hull. You can use add-on Malone Saddle Up Pro Kayak Carrier # MPG110MD for an extra kayak to be mounted.
