Video Transcript for Malone SeaWing Kayak Carrier and Stinger Load Assist Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Malone C-Wing kayak carrier and stinger load-assist with tie-downs, part number MPG113MD.The Malone C-Wing kayak carrier and stinger load-assist is a wing-style, saddle kayak carrier that enables you to load up to one kayak onto your roof with ease. To use our stinger load-assist, you loosen up the knobs here at the front. Once these are loosened up, you just push it out then you re-tighten the knobs and this will help guide your kayak both on and off to your saddles. With it extracted like this, I also like to show you that it has this integrated V-block here and this is also going to help you align your kayak onto your saddles. One thing to note is when we have it setting on our mount here, you did notice that it did bend quite a bit towards the vehicle. I would like to point out, though, you don't have to worry about your vehicle getting scratched up or anything like that because there is padding on the bottom of this to make sure that doesn't happen. This does come with the loading straps and the bow and stern tie-downs to secure this to your saddles. And, also, the buckles here have this protective material to make sure the whole of your kayak won't get scratched up once you're installing this.Stinger load-assist can extend up to 21 inches back once fully retracted. And, also, for the protection of both your kayak and your vehicle, the C-wing is extensively padded to make sure there aren't going to be any scratches or bumps. Thanks to the jaws universal mount here, this will mount anything from the arrow bars that you see here to the elliptical, square, round, and most factory roof rack systems.

This is made from a corrosion-resistant polycarbonate construction, meaning it's going to have a nice, long-lasting life for you. And it's very easy to install. It comes with all the tools necessary to install this on your roof. The overall dimensions are going to be 24 inches long by 10 and a half inches wide by four inches tall with a total load capacity of 75 pounds. When comparing this with other products, one that comes up is the Swagman Exo Aero Kayak carrier, part number S65145. Comparing these two, the most economical choice is going to be the Malone.

Another choice is going to be the carrying capacity. This is going to go to Swagman with 100 pound carrying capacity while the Malone only has a 75. But as far as installation is concerned, that's going to go to the Malone because the Swagman has had complaints of its bolts being too long and having to be cut because they do make contact with the customer's roof. And it's also easier to load up from the rear with the stinger assist. Now that we've gone over some of the features of this kayak carrier, let's go ahead and show you how it installs. We have all the parts set up here that you're going to find in the box once you get it.

We have the cradles, we have our slider or a load-assist right here, we have the two jaws universal clamps to go around our roof rack system, we have the bolts to attach it as well as the turn knobs to tighten it down to our roof rack and we also have our included tie-downs and bow and stern tie-downs for the kayaks once they're installed. Our first step is we're going to start putting together our load-assist portion of it. You take the V block and extension plate, flipping it over to where you can see the Malone symbol. We'll set V block in place, then we'll flip it upside down and take our two Philips head screws and, again, tighten them up.Next, we'll take our extension frame, set our mounting plate underneath it, making sure that the two holes here are facing towards our Malone insignia there. Have that lined up, then we'll take two bolts there like so and flip it again, then take our turn knobs and just loosely tighten it up.Now, we'll take one of our kayak saddles and set that on top of our mounting plate as well, lining up the two holes here with these two holes. Then we'll take the longer silver bolts, drop those through like so.

Kind of turn this on its side and go underneath where we'll install our universal mounting plate loosely on one side. Now, we can mount this on our rear bar of our roof rack system. Spin around our mounting point there and then install our other turn knob. Now, our load-assist is installed.Next, we'll install our second cradle. At this point, you'll have to choose between which size bolts you're going to be using. Since we have the arrow bars, we will be using the longer bolts. Take our universal mount, put it over one of our bolts and just loosely tighten that up. Then we'll take our second cradle and try to line it up as best as we can with our other. Swing that universal mount around again, lining up the holes and tightening up that turn knob. It's just a matter of snugging it up the rest of the way.Next, we'll take our covers here where we put our bolts through on our mounts. We already did this for our rear mount as well. Now that we've got everything secure to our roof rack system, we can start installing our kayak. First, take our red strap, feed it through the top portion of our saddle here then back to the bottom, like so, and we'll leave it off to the side to be completely installed later. We'll repeat this process for our rear saddle as well.Next, we'll pull out our load assist. We'll first start by loosening up the T knobs here on both sides and we can pull it out, like so. Once it's pulled out, you want to make sure to re-tighten the knobs here. Now, we can grab our kayak. Setting it on our V mounting block at the end then lining it up with our front mounts, we'll push it into place until it's seated on both mounts. Once we're happy with how the kayak is sitting on our mounts, we can loosen up these knobs again and push our load assist back into place. And just tighten them back up.Next, we'll take the straps and we'll bring them over the front. Just kind of let them hang down a little bit. And we'll repeat this for our rear straps as well. While letting these hang down, you do want to make sure that the buckle end with the material is facing towards the vehicle just so you don't accidentally hit it. Next, we'll take one end of our tie-down, we'll put it through the top and then back up through the bottom, kind of like we did on the other side. We'll pull up our buckle til it's at that point, there, and we'll take our one end, feed it through and then tighten down our strap. Now it's secured to our rear mount and we'll do this for the front, as well. Once these are tightened down to our cradles, we can start tying off the access. Now we're ready to move on to our bow and stern tie-downs. We'll first have to attach our one end of our rope to our hook. We'll pass it through the eyelet, like so, tie a knot nice and tight and we'll do a double knot on top of that, as well. Now we're ready to go onto the front of our vehicle, find a tie-down point and put the hook into that. We're probably going to use a tow-hook on this particular vehicle, keeping the rope tight we'll bring it up to our handle, the bow of our kayak. Once keeping it tight, we'll come back about 12 or 14 inches, we'll make a loop like you see here, followed by another, which we'll wrap around, pulling it though to create a larger loop like you see there. We'll pass our excess string or rope through that and pull it tight. Then we can tie it off and then tie off the rest of our excess. We'll repeat this for our stern tie-down as well. And there you have it for the Malone C-wing kayak carrier and stinger load-assist with tie-downs, part number MPG113MD.

  • Thule Hullavator Pro Kayak Carrier and Lift Assist with Tie-Downs - Side Loading part # TH898 can be installed on factory cross bars as long as they are square, aerodynamic or round bars. You do want to have 4-8" of bar overhang in order for the Hullavator to be lowered when you load the kayaks. I have attached a photo to help explain. If you do not have the appropriate amount of clearance the Hullavator may come into contact with your RAV4 in it's load assist position. If your factory...

  • The Malone SeaWing Kayak Carrier and Load Assist # MPG113MD that you referenced features a 75 pound weight capacity, so it won't be able to safely support your 85 pound Perception Pesacador Kayak. This will allow you to push the kayak up from the rear of the vehicle...

  • Could Two Malone SeaWing Kayak Carriers # MPG113MD Fit on 2018 Nissan Rogue
  • What you'd want to do is compare the width of your two kayaks as they sit next to each other to the length of the crossbars on your roof. Since the Malone SeaWing Kayak Carrier and Load Assist # MPG113MD can overhang pas the ends of the crossbars you shouldn't have a problem at all fitting two of them next to each other but without knowing how wide your crossbars and how wide your kayaks are it's harder to say.
