How to Carry a Canoe on the Naked Roof of a 2013 Toyota Prius V

Updated 07/06/2015 | Published 07/03/2015

Question:

Picture shows how it fits a factory roof rack, but does not show or explain how to use on a naked roof??? How does it work with a Nucanoe on a naked rook? What do you recommend for a new Nucanoe user with a 2013 Toyota Prius V with a naked roof?

The Yakima foam blocks Y04056 could be a good option for a naked roof 2013 Toyota Prius V. But I recommend the Malone foam blocks # MPG156 since they are less expensive and because Yakima has stopped making the foam blocks. To attach it to a vehicle with a naked roof you would first make sure the bottoms of the pads and the roof are clean. Then you would set the canoe down next to the vehicle so that it over hangs the front and rear of the roof evenly.

Next you will place the blocks on the sides of the canoe and lift the canoe, turn it over, and set it down on the vehicle roof. You may need to adjust the foam block locations.

Then you will use the included straps over the canoe and routed through the interior of the vehicle. Once secured you would use the remaining tie downs to secure the bow and stern. I have linked a video that should help. They put it on a vehicle with a bare roof, then add a roof rack, but it can be used on a bare roof.
