Recommended Canoe Carrier for 2012 Subaru Outback with Factory Crossbars
Updated 03/16/2012 | Published 03/15/2012 >
Question:
My Outback has factory racks. They can run either lengthwise or can be moved into a cross bar. Not sure if they would hold my 75 lb. Gruman Canoe. What will I need? Is there anything that would work with the factory racks?

For the factory crossbars on your 2012 Subaru Outback, I would recommend the Malone Foam Block Rooftop Canoe Carrier, part # MPG156. The foam blocks used to support the canoe can be mounted to the crossbars, or can be placed directly on the roof surface. The kit includes the foam blocks, tie down straps and the bow and stern lines used to secure the canoe to the front and rear of the vehicle.
If you decide to use the foam blocks directly on the vehicle roof, be sure the blocks and the roof are perfectly clean and free of grit to avoid scratching the paint.
Be sure to check your owners manual for confirmation that your vehicle roof and the roof rack can handle the 75 lb weight of the canoe.
