Speaker 1: Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Malone DownLoader Kayak Carrier with Tie Downs, part number: MPG114MD. The Malone DownLoader Kayak Carrier enables to you carry one kayak up on your roof, and comes with all the necessary tie downs and straps to do so. With our tie-down straps here, we do have this padded piece of material to keep the hull of your kayak safe from scratches once you install this. It has integrated ramps on the cradles, and this is gonna assist you with loading and unloading the kayak. It has oversized pads with nylon covers on the backside of it, to protect your hull, as well, and it also has padding at the base of the cradles where the kayak would make contact there. The kayak carrier's cradles also conveniently fold down when not in use, by lifting up these two pins here and pulling it forward, and pushing them back into place.

Malone does recommend you have them in the folded down position while driving without the kayak on.The kayak carrier has three layers of corrosion-resistant coating on it, to give it a much longer lifespan while on your roof. It also has the jawz universal mounts on it, which will mount to your square, round, aero, elliptical, and most factory roof racks. This has a carrying capacity of 75 pounds, so check both your roof rack and your vehicle's weight capacities to make sure it's within its limits. Now that we've gone over some of the features of the DownLoader, let's go ahead and show you how it installs. We have everything set out that comes in the box once you get it.

We have the two cradles here, our bow and stern tie downs with the hooks, we have our clamps that'll go around your factory roof rack or your aftermarket roof rack, and we have the bolts that you'll use to attach these brackets to the cradles. We'll have our turn knobs that tighten down the clamps, and then we'll have our tie downs for the kayak itself. With our first cradle, we need to determine which size bolt we're gonna be using. Since we have square bars installed on our factory raised side rails, we're gonna try out the smaller ones first. So we'll flip this on its side, and we'll take one end of our bolt and push it through the bottom until you see it poke through the top portion. Then shut the cover over it.

And we'll repeat this for our other bolts, as well. Before we set this onto our roof rack, we're gonna take our bracket and we're gonna attach just one of our turn knobs at the end here. And as we set it down, you'll see it actually has a cut out here that'll perfectly shape to our square bars that we have installed. Once we have it aligned, we'll swing our bracket around to the other side, and make our final connection. Get it nice and tight.

Give it a shake test to make sure it's not gonna go anywhere. All right. Now we'll repeat this for our other cradle. When we set our rear one into place, we just want to make sure that it's even with our front cradle. Now we can start installing our kayak. We want to make sure our cradles are in the folded down position because we need to get to this bracket here for our tie-down straps. We'll take our one end here of our red strap, feed that through, and we'll do this for the front, as well. Now we can fold our cradles up by pulling out these two tabs here at the base, and pushing them up, like so, and then locking them back in. We'll do this for the rear one, as well. With our straps, we're actually gonna push these off to the side so we can load up our kayak onto our cradles. All right. Now we can take our kayak, rest it on our ramps. With it resting on these little ramps here on the outside, it makes it much easier just to push this into the cradles. Now we'll take our strap, wrap around the front of the kayak; we'll do this at the rear portion, as well. Take the one end, and we're gonna come to the inside of our ramp here and thread it through, like so. We'll come up to the front of the ramp, this portion here, and then put that through the bottom of our protective strip, and we'll feed it through our buckle. Nice and tight. And we'll repeat this process for our front strap. Now we can tie off our excess and get ready for our bow and stern tie downs. To get our bow and stern tie downs ready, we'll first have to attach our hook to our line. So we'll pass it through, making a knot first, like so. Double knotting that. With our hook attached, we'll find a spot underneath the front of our vehicle, like a tow hook, attach the hook to it. Then we'll bring our line up and attach it to the handle at the front of our kayak. We're gonna form a knot around the open end here. Keep it tight, and then we'll tie off the excess. All right. And there you have it for the Malone DownLoader Kayak Carrier with Tie Downs, part number: MPG114MD.

These Malone kayak carriers really do the job. Paired with the Malone Telos Load Assist, getting our sea kayaks onto the topper of our Toyota Tundra is easy for this 70 year old. No more major lifting causing aggravation for my back. Tying down each kayak is quick and easy. 636101

Great service from etrailer.com! The Malone roof racks and Kayak carriers arrived on time, went on easily, and seem to be very sturdy and reliable. The only thing I could wish for is that the buckles on the tie-down straps had some kind of a rubber coating. Thanks! 540418

I'm very pleased with the Malone DownLoader Kayak Carrier. Installation was a breeze, much quicker than I anticipated. Our tandem kayak (13.5' long), easily slid into place, fit well and secure in the carrier, and the tie-downs made securing the bow & stern a cinch - and there was plenty of room for our paddleboard! The best feature is the ability to fold the carriers down when not in use - so much better than having to take the rack off after each use. The only disappointment I have with the product is the "universal fit mounting blocks". They are designed to fit a Malone roof rack with the rectangular cut out for the roof rack but my factory roof rack has oval shaped bars. The carriers do mount but they lean to one side. Overall, I'm very pleased and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a kayak carrier! 517109

Mounted two malone downloaders on am aftermarket rack on my ram 3500. The cross bars are 3.5 inches wide but the rack hardware accomidates this no problem. I had to purchase longer bolts as the cross bars are thick amd the bolts that came with the racks were not long enough. Used the rack this weekend and theey are amazing. Loadinf amd unloading our 17ft seawards was a breeze and they were very secure during transport. Great rack great price great service!!!!! 436149

Used the product for the first time last weekend. My kayak is heavy and wide. The straps that came with this are not long enough if you load via product instructions. Otherwise they worked great. Take note that when putting them on a truck, they get very high in the air to load your kayak easily if it has any weight - mine is 100lbs. You will need a load assist of some type or 2-3 people and some step ladders. Quality product! 514450

Do you have a question about this Watersport Carrier?

  • Load Assisted Kayak Carriers for 2019 Honda Pilot for 2 Kayaks
  • The Thule Hullavator Kayak Carriers # TH898 weigh 40-lbs each by themselves so the two empty carriers alone will consume half of the Pilot's rated 165-lb roof capacity. While there are some lightweight kayaks out there most weigh 40-lbs or more apiece. Apart from the weight concern there is the matter of space; each Hullavator requires 31-inches of space on the crossbars so the Pilot would have to be fitted with very long bars. Even the longest aftermarket roof rack bars made for your...

  • For a tall vehicle like your 2007 Yukon I recommend two side-load kayak carriers that face to the outsides of the vehicle since these will make loading easier. My kayaks are the same size as yours and although they are not particularly heavy (about 40-lbs each) I like not having to lift them any more than necessary! All side-load carriers that fit factory roof racks are shown on the page I linked for you and they are all pretty similar, but in terms of features and value it's hard to...

This is a flexible, J-Style rack that installs quickly onto your crossbars, and folds flat for when you don't have time to pull it off immediately. The carrier also includes small load-assist ramps on both J's of the carrier, helping support at least a little weight of the kayak as you get it onto the roof of your vehicle. Additionally, the DownLoader can support kayaks up to 36 inches wide, so you...

So to err on the side of caution I do recommend going with longer bars. In this case that would be roof rack # MPG216.
